Classic RO can't afford potions

Without potions how can I ever kill things to get items in order to.. buy potions? I'm stuck. Killing porings or fabres doesn't seem reasonably fast enough to get any potions unless I spend a day doing that, but they have incorrect exp values anyways.

Hit and Pray
Then sit and wait.
It would take over an hour to afford 20 potions that way.

The best part is that every monster in the game weaker than a rocker right now only gives 1exp 1job, so you can't even level properly.
Wtf, is that true? It did seem like it took even longer than I remembered for myself to hit job 10 this time around, haha.
Edit: Oh btw OP, there's an NPC in Al de Baran that exchanges 1 Worm Peeling for 1 Red Potion, so even a fairly short time spent snooping around the Culverts will net you quite a nice amount of potions (though teleporting to Al de might be a little expensive, so be sure to gather enough for the trip to be worth it).

There's a ton of people in wolves which drop meat, monster feed, and strawberries. Then you can sell the rest of whatever you pick up and afford some potions of your own~!

meat costs the same as red pot - 50 z
It also heals the same as a yellow pot near enough.

I really am not sure which class you are playing so perhaps your should mention for ppl to better help.I used all of my novice potions to kill spores in the training grounds. After my job change I sold my drops for about enough for 9 red potions. I used them to kill rockers and only gained 275 zeny.

Also keep in mind that Swordies got HP recovery for this very reason, as Thiefs have double attack for faster killing. Aco's get Agi/Bless/Heal. Archers get Double Strafes.
I cannot think you are very experienced though as I my Mage hit level 11/10 so quickly in training with only 1 Str/Vit/Agi and still had over 200 red pots left. If you do the training right you can actually get to like level 9/7 before needing to kill anything and even get 1 more base level by dying 1 time.
I remember before I did a quick list ranking of the easiest chars to start with and I believe it went like so: (Without any outside help from other players or even gears)
#1 Mage - Max Fire Bolt ASAP and it's smooth sailing for quite a long time
#2 Thief (Most profittable if paired with Merchant with OC)
#3 Swordies - Bash & Increase HP reduce resting times
#4 Archer (although rest times can be annoying)
#5 Acolytes (Heal Bombing can be boring though)
#6 Merchants (mammo is not worth using when it's your first or second char)

I'm a thief. The reason I used them all is because I was tanking spores solo as a novice, and then I also tanked some for my friend while he got job lv10. I tried to make another novice to get more potions, but after I got into the real-world I realized they were account bound.

Currently while leveling on spores as a Swordman/Merchant/Thief your Novice Reds run out around the time you turn base level 15 and you're stuck farming for zeny.

That always made me mad. I can see making them account bound, but character bound? What am I going to do? Hoard novice pots and become an unstoppable killing machine?
I used to do that on Valkyrie when I was still a first class. Except the server wouldn't let me spam red potions fast enough at Mi Gaos and the time it took to get red potions outweighed the benefit I got from just sitting down and waiting for regen.
