I read on this wiki that the STR stat raises bow damage: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Stats

Does it give more damage, or is it equivilant to DEX when using a Bow?

it gives additional damage, but dex is far superior when using bows.

Status atk +1 every 5 ATK is completely negligible. Unless you are using Warg Dash or you're a melee ranger, investing on STR is a COMPLETE waste.

Not a complete waste; it does raise your weight limit.

The added damage is tiny, though, far too small to be worth talking about.

Hmm, I wouldn't waste it on STR though. If you're playing in Renewal, there's always Heavy Lifter Boxes.

Archer classes benefit from other stats more than STR. Even LUK is a better stat investment because it helps with Falcon and Warg in addition to status resist, damage, hit, lucky dodge.

I didn't say it was a good investment, only that it wasn't completely useless.

After all, even with the heavy lifter box, ranger weight limit is painfully low. The 30 weight limit is certainly more useful than the 0.2 atk.

That's good to know, I can invest in other stats. I have a way to balance stats where I could possibly use STR a bit, so I'll see... Ty~

My 60 STR wanderer has 7000 weight limit after the heavy lifter box's full use. This means 1750 slims if I go full KVM to WOE... without going overweight.

Also, in the special case of rangers, STR boosts the damage of an useless extra skill from the tree. Beast Strafing, which you get by having DS 10, Beast Bane 10 and in the effect of Soul Link. Maybe the skill is cool on Classic, but not much here.

Anyways, I would put STR on my ranger if I was on dagger mode, as a trapper. Or manual warg, which is not my build.
