Which merchant class should I go into when I upgrade?

Which class should I go into for making stuff? Alchemy or Smithing? Also, what are any advantages and disadvantages of each.

If you like making stuff, alchemists are better as nobody really uses forged weapons except for leveling low level characters. Even then, endows tend to work better. Potions and other alchemist creations are used / used up constantly.

Note that your "maker" character should not be your main character and should only be a secondary, as a helper character.

There are hybrid battle / brewer or forger builds but biochemists and mastersmiths are generally best left as 99/70 and as a secondary character, as third class jobs only have job 50 max (less brew/forge success chance). Geneticists do get a new variety of things they can make from Special Pharmacy etc. though.
