Hi, I just found Ragnarok Online and I'm wondering which server to chose. Is there any difference or is it just population? Should I chose Ymir, Yggdrasil, Valkyrie, or Loki. Also, if you can give me some tips for starting out, like what skills and stats to chose and what do in the beginning like after you complete the tutorial. I'm going to chose a swordsman, so give me skills and stats for that. Thanks!

You can get advice on your swordsman in the Classes section of the forum. As for server recommendations, most people seem to prefer Classic, which is Loki, and Valkyrie. The choice is up to you though. Many people say that Valkyrie is more noob-friendly, but Classic is more for a challenge and one you know the story. Classic also has some of the things not available in the Renewal servers, which is all but Loki. I have heard that Ymir will be merging with Yggdrasil soon, but I'm not sure when. I think that is happening because Ymir is no longer a VIP only server.

ymir, ygg and valkyrie are renewal servers while classic is prerenewal..
Ymir is dead and will be merged with ygg. So no sense in joining it..
Ygg is a good server with less real players and less bots..
Valk is a server with lots of real players but it also has max. Bots.
Classic follows prerenewal system. It too has bots.
In prerenewal, you c
an reach only as far as lvl 99,Renewal system - it includes the transcendent system which was
introduced few years back. It
enables you to transform
yourself into a much Higher,
powerful class.
This is how it works.(assuming u choose the knight line) :
Novice>swordie>knight. After
reaching lvl 99, You can either
turn into Rune knight ( not advised as
you'll severly lack some gr8
skills which lord knight has).
OR
After reaching lvl 99, You can
change back to High
Novice>High swordie-lord knight.
& After u reach lvl 99 as a lord knight,
u can then change to Rk.
The game mechanics were also changed severly to make it user friendly.
As a new comer, i'd recommend valk for its huge playerbase than ygg.
For swordie, max out bash, magnum break, increase hp recovery. If u choose knight, max out 2hand mastery, provoke to lvl 5 and endure to lvl 3. And increase str,agi and dex.. If u choose crusaders, max out 1hand mastery and endure and increase str,vit and dex as swordie.

Basically Direct 3D T&L is a technology that Nvidia introduced to offload generally transform and lightning calculations onto your GPU. Direct 3D HAL is low level abstraction layer that interfaces with your GPU.

Both of it are pretty old technology and might have problems with modern hardware though. Always use your own GPU (Graphic Card) as rendering engine.

I have no idea what that means.

Well uh, conclusion is, T&L is better than Direct 3D HAL.

I used to have a Knight before and i must say that Spear would be a great way to go than a two hand sword since you would have a shield.
Two handed Agi knight seems to play a bit harder compared to their vit counterparts, plus, their dodge is not that high. But since you will get a stat reset at level 99 when you become a super novice, ya can try out which ever you like. Just don't forget that dex is an important part of your stat too.

That sounds so sexy.
