It's… unfortunate that the Renewal client selects the Classic server by default.

It does? I thought it defaulted to whichever server you'd last played on that computer.Yes, you're using the wrong client. You must use the Renewal client (Ragnarok.exe) to play on the Renewal server, Chaos, and the Classic client (ClassicRO.exe) to play on the Classic server, Classic Loki.
It's… unfortunate that the Renewal client selects the Classic server by default.

I meant the default on new installations (which means that all new players will be exposed to this problem).

- Press Windows-R (the Windows key and the R key).
- Type "msinfo32" and then press enter.
- Navigate to Components → Display in the left pane.
- Press control-A and then control-C to copy the information in the right pane to the clipboard.
- Paste the copied text into a reply to this post.
If that doesn't work, then try running the IRO client in compatibility mode.
By the way, please stop creating posts pertaining to the same problem in different threads, creating duplicate posts, and posting replies in threads that you follow links to. Doing these things makes it much harder for everyone to help you.

The manufacturer of your GPU is Intel. The easiest way to update the drivers for Intel's hardware is to use the Intel Driver Update Utility. As the Intel Driver Update Utility's web page says, you must have Java installed if you want to run the software in a web browser other than Internet Explorer.
If updating your GPU drivers doesn't resolve the problem, then try running the IRO client in compatibility mode.

The RO client actually has worse compatibility with newer hardware and versions of Windows than older ones because its graphics programming has barely been updated since it was written 12 years ago — it's still based on DirectX 7!
