Well, you have considerably higher int than i had when testing (91 or so), but could you maybe do some tests with a +0? Damage floats a lot more as refining level goes up, making 3 tries rather low i think?

EDIT: Oh btw, what was your str during that test?

Yes well, 110 int is closer to 850%, so 50*8.5*1.3 = 552 so that's still pretty close to what you're seeing.

Note: you should test without a weapon to remove the randomness in your damage, but because sword mastery requires a sword, the best you can do is use a non-upgraded blade[3], as that will have the least variance.

it was just a simple quick test to see if full geared the SM increase the damage enough to make at least usefull for pvm and only increased ~500 damage same increase that your naked test shows, plus the lowest damage with SM was 12387 and the highest damage without SM was 12330.
from my point of view spending 5 points for a genetic only to get 500 + damage i think it is a waste when probably some ppl also use Two handed axe for mvping/large monsters.
I cant make more tests right now thats why i asked if someone else can do it and make another topic where we can all post our findings instead of filling this topic with this xD

Well for example I am currently leveling a second genetic in Scaraba 2 with a +12 Triple Kingbird Twin Edge (Red). I 3 shot them, which is in part thanks to the sword mastery level 4 I have, which is adding a couple hundred damage. Its worth getting for leveling, definitely, as most gene skills don't help you when leveling.

Well that pushes it to personal preference i guess, i mean, if you know you're going to use a two handed axe for mvping (god forbid) - skipping it might be a good idea. And when talking about mvp too, we'd be talking about AB instead of CC, so the effects could be entirely different.

For one, i was on sakray a couple days ago testing roughly a ~200 atk increase on AB (to have an idea about pyroclastic) and it was just stupid, made a 44k AB into 66k :s... Off the top of my head, that was a ~3k increase on cannon too.

That being said, 50 atk MIGHT not save you bottles when putting an mvp down (maybe yes, maybe not) - but as a strictly PvM gene it's not like there's much else you can do with those skill points when cannon and AB are your most effective tools?

Hurricane Fury is decent with leveling, but its not a great idea for MVP. The -X% medium applies to so very few MVPs (Osiris comes to mind) so you're getting beat up awfully bad for a really minor attack increase over a twin edge.

Depends on the type of ATK too; weapon ATK (say, mjolnir's) is a lot more effective than equip/mastery attack. Because STR adds 0.5% weapon atk per point. So a 250 ATK weapon with 120 total STR (vip/bless/job, and like 95 base) is actually 250*160%=400 ATK, while mastery attack and equip attack don't get this benefit.

Agh, good days of pre renewal (pre trans too i guess, considering soul destroyer, clashing spiral to some extent and some others) when skills dealt a flat % damage and that was it. Now looking @ 3rd job skills, just makes me weep haha ;;

I know that now they provide a better increase with each level/have more ways avaiable to increase the damage, but still... that "simplicity" was somewhat comforting.
