Could we make it so people who merc for a guild that proceeds to win a castle can use the castles npcs as well? It would be a nice incentive to merc, currently you don't really get anything of value, the trophies are more or less worthless.

I could see this being abused. It might encourage some guilds not to go for the castle and to just merc all the time, instead -- they'd simply pick the guild most likely to win and merc for them so they could use the castle every week instead of every other week or every two weeks.
A limitation might help -- for instance, only allowing each player to merc for one EW tournament a month, or something. But that would kind of defeat part of the purpose of the merc system, allowing more players to participate each week even if their guild isn't in the running.
Still, I personally feel the current merc system is fine except for one thing: Guild leaders should be allowed to personally approve or decline each merc application, to prevent feeding.
