i used to play ragnarok online hardcore but then i took renewal in the knee?

Urgh :) this joke is only funny the first time.

But anyway, i'm just saying. With the way Gravity handled RO, it is most likely RO2 is going to get the same mistreatment outside of kRO. I'm talking about bad localization, slow updates, source code leaks for private servers, it's going to be the same thing we're seeing in RO today, since it took them 10 years to fix and they didn't. Gravity just have a poor track record. RO is just too original that we ignored all these flaws.

lol i know i was just being an idiot

and i understand what your saying. it will probably be a mess in the beginning but you have to expect that. there will be private servers there always is. I dont think the flaws are ignored thats why people quit but they come back because it is original.

If they were going to seriously work on RO1, they'd probably have to rebuild the game's engine from the ground up, and I don't mean just the graphics. The current engine is missing support for all kinds of stuff like GUIs for upgrading and such. No small task, and if I recall, Gravity Korea has been getting worried that their business is almost entirely dependent on RO1 still after all these years.

Never mind fixing and optimizing the net code. As it stands I'm guessing it's held together with popsicle sticks and bubble gum.

I don't agree with this thread. However, I have to admit, I am pretty surprised and disappointed they haven't revamped the game engine after all these years. Look at the popularity of games like Farmville, Castleville, etc. 2D isometric games can be very popular if they run smoothly.

I don't think they should scratch RO2. If done properly you can experience lots of new fun things in Rune Midgards.

For example. Think about defending a castle in a 3D world. You can see the enemy alliance people coming from the horizons. Also if done properly they can add a lot of new items with more detail and faster.

In my personal opinion I liked a bit how it looked when I was playing the first closed beta of RO2 (the new one) (and the old one well, I probably support the idea if one day they want to add the old RO2 models playable as new race in other place or something)
But the things I don't liked at that time was:
- Too big Prontera
- Maps that doesn't follow RO1 map. Ok, you can add more maps or detail or bigger maps, but... explain why Prontera have sea at the south. Unless after lots of years, some dissaster happened in old Prontera (the one from RO1) and the people living there moved somewhere else and named that new city "New Prontera" until they changed to just "Prontera"
- Maps with loadings between them. Well, perhaps is just my opinion, but in a 3D game I like better the idea of a world without "breaks"
- Missing WoE. But I expect they add this feature soon when they advance the development
- Missing a way to vend in the street (or I can't see that feature). But not like RO1, where is just one chat. Think running in the street and seeing a market with stalls
- Missing stat customization (I think they fixed that)

The thing they should do about RO1 is recode a lot of the client engine to work better with new technologies and use both games to strengthen Ragnarok Online world. In other way, make people of RO1 look at RO2, and RO2 new people look at RO1. In that way, if for some reason you get tired of one of the games perhaps you can retain that customer in Gravity. Perhaps that's the reason why they made Warp Portal, to make people try other games instead of quitting and go somewhere else.
So yes, perhaps RO2 can bring people to RO1 if done properly. But of course, if someone plays RO2, goes to try RO1 and it works bad because the graphics engine of the client frezees because it runs in software mode and the network code lags, then forget that.

Your suggestions:
-Add armor/weapon sprites, including cape sprites for garments
For add armor/weapon sprites they draw each of the views you see ingame, and more than one time, because some classes grab their weapons in a different way than other classes.

-Fix all stupid ass bugs that has been here for a decade (party share bug, see party sp bar, guild tendency box etc...)
Yep

-Put the lawsuit on the private servers to get all those people back
People usually get angry when they close where they play. It happened in other RO service where the company just do that, and people from those server started a boycott. Also doing a lawsuit is too costly for the company for the benefits they can get from it.

-More consistent updates on mechanic and class balance
No opinion about that

let me know when any current 3DMMO can handle this type of thing and this many people in one place at one time. (RO1 as it is can barely keep up with it)

AIKA Online is the closest 3D MMORPG game that I've played, that comes close to RO1's WoE-type of PvP. I would really love for it to be like that in RO2 tho. But they'd have to have the meanest servers on earth. XD

A big part of RO's longevity was the combination of the game play and the universe of Ragnarok Online. WoE was what set RO apart from all others, and no other MMO can touch it to this day. You just can't do that level of mass combat and tactical play style with a typical 3D MMO (think about the size and sheer number of people involved in WoE back in 2003-2004). Thus, as for RO2, no woe, then not interested.

RO2 should have been a re-working of the graphic engine to use higher resolution and better animation of the 2d sprites (both player and monster), that can use more 'layers' for displaying equipments. Add in a re-texturing and slight re-working and expansion of the game world. As has been mention before, it could have fixed all those things and bugs that should have been taken care of 10 years ago also. This should have been RO2.

If it can bring in people who played RO years ago but are looking for a 3d game

If they played RO years ago, they are probably not looking for a 3d game. They are probably 10 years older than they were, working full time, paying bills and gaming on a slightly more casual basis - and if they want to play RO, then they are looking for a sense of nostalgia.

There is WoE. It will be released in the coming weeks in kRO2, along with other updates. They are going all out on this, a little information snooping will let you in the know that Gravity isn't going to let it fall by the wayside.

Are you kidding? Even with full graphic setting, the game looks incredibly outdated compares to RO2 or Aion... and it doesn't feel like RO, it feels like Rose Online... so now if it doesn't feel like RO to draw old players, and inferior to other games of its class to draw new players... where is this game heading????

I think you're being insanely unrealistic of Gravity. You can expect a company like Blizzard to do something new and interesting a few times, but Gravity? With their resources, I'm surprised they're still in business. Expecting an entirely unique game down to its core from Gravity will probably only happen once, and it already did with RO1.

So, RO was such a fun game that we decided to forgive gravity for all the bugs, for all their lack of attention, for their conservative way of changes that only come from their HQ in Korea, you forgive all of that because RO's community, and the charming feel of the game itself, that set itself from anything that is on the market.

Now, enter RO2, look at feel like hundreds of other 3D games with a -_-ty engine. HQ is still in Korea. Do you really think they would let the international version run itself? Or do you think it will be the same KRO vs IRO situation we are seeing now, except in a game that looks like/worse than hundreds others on the market right now. Is it really worth trying just because the name is "Ragnarok Online"?

Yes. It is worth trying.
