Could some experienced Mage/Wizard Players recommend me some skill builds?
I never played a Mage before, but I thought I should give it a try, at least once to see how it is.

This is what i could come up with at the moment:

http://irowiki.org/~...XoaebdDaoeKHXgK

I do like the idea of the Soul Strike skill, summoning stuff is always great :D
I don't know though if that skill build is ok that way, since some guides recommend getting the Bolt spells all maxed out.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you are getting soul strike get it to 9. You have all 3 of the big AoEs, that eats up alot of points and for levelling doesn't really help. Their cast time is long so unless you have strings it takes a while to get any of them off. Meteor storm is easily expendable.

It really depends how and where you level. Many people solo in gh prison with firewall. If you go there you need a way to deal with the brilights which are fire property eg. frost driver, icewall or cold bolt.

You have frost nova and icewall at lvl 1. IW is kinda useless at that lvl. Frost nova is not useful pre-R even maxed.

I'd max JT.

ummmm theres a couple really. Depends on if you will be PvPing and WoEing later on. For leveling only though, I suggest maxing fire wall and frost driver for prison. Dont really need any other skills for leveling other than storm gust if you party with a priest later on. If you do decide to WoE and etc then there are a few builds you might find useful.

http://irowiki.org/~...AfkeKafabjabxeK

This is a good pvp/woe build. Does not have LoV or MS but still contains SG. (No firewall either but if you have fire wall atm you can just reset skills with a neuralizer later on when you hit 99 and dont need FW anymore)

http://irowiki.org/~...NoXeKdsabcKaxbx

This one contains LoV 10 which is nice for pre casts in WoE.It can help out quite a bit in slowing people down. Sacrifices some points in FD though. Also quagmire will be a lower level but still good for pvp and WoE.

http://irowiki.org/~...noXeKdsabcAGXhX

And this last one contains Meteor storm instead of LoV which is also good for WoE since it can stack I think (cant remember).

If your just trying to level right now then just worry about fire wall, frost driver, and storm gust. Once WoE becomes active you will learn a lot more about wizards on you're own. You will start to notice what works and what doesnt. Those builds are pretty good WoE builds and the first one is very good for pvp and woe. Just level for now and once youget more involved you can learn from other mages and etc. Best of luck to you.

Thank you very much!
I'll take them into consideration when building up my mage.

The only easy thing about this class seems to be the stat distribution.

Don't need Frost Nova, Increase SP recovery or Sense.

Unless you're getting Safety Wall, don't put any points Soul Strike and keep Napalm at 1 for prerequisite requirements.

You could take Quag down to 3.

You have a lot of points to redistribute now.

1. I wouldn't max Frost Diver. I just don't like the habit of freezing things one at a time. You can get to Wiz without freezing anything and with Storm Gust you'll have a buddy.

2 & 3. I wouldn't put Stone Curse any higher than 1. Also this skill layout doesn't tell you if you're maxing Curse as a Mage or Wizard (OP hasn't played Mage before).

I just feel like Stone Curse will put you in a bad habit of going close-range to opponents and our class should avoid that.

I decided to go with this build for the meantime: (I can always reset them afterwards anyway)

http://irowiki.org/~...xoafOdDafaNGKgK

Currently I'm level 44/31 with:
Fire Bolt 10
Fire Ball 5
Fire Wall 10

and my stats are:

Int 66+6
Dex 12+2
Luk 9
Matk 197 ~ 308

I read that I should get Int to 70 before I start putting points into Dex.

Currently I'm leveling on Hodes (2 south from Morocc)
Some players say that from level 40 on the Clock Tower in Al De Baran is quiet good to level with a Mage, I haven't been there yet, but I guess the monsters will be much stronger than Hodes, right?

If you have mastered vert firewall and have a aco with pnuema with you alarms is very fast xp.
Take into account that getting hit means certain death but you are rewarded for the risk.

You really don't need SP recovery. If you're leveling efficiently solo, you're not going to run out of SP because you have so much to begin with. If you're with a party, there should be a Priest around with Magnificant.

I'm surprised you have no quag. Quag is -really- nice. Stack it with firewall and monsters don't tear through your walls as fast.

I can't kill Cramps or Brilight with two regular firewalls but if they're quagged and the walls are stacked properly, they never touch me.

It also will really help you in tight spots where you have a big mob but wouldn't normally be able to run down a narrow corridor. Its saved me a lot of time and convenience.

Just max int first. Cast reduction is nice but you'll have to cast more spells for less damage and use up more SP.

^ I changed Frost Diver to 5 to max out Quagmire some time ago, but I didn't update my post.

I'm doing quiet fine fighting Alarms/Clocks at the moment even though I tend to die a lot there too xD
Clock Tower is way too dangerous, but it kinda helped me to learn how to use Fire Wall against monsters :D

About SP Recovery, I added 3 points to it already before I started to think about the build again, so those points are gone.

My skill build will be like this then:
http://irowiki.org/~...koafOdDafaNHXgK

I don't think I'll make any more changes to it for now.

Stats are easy, 99 Int/Dex when reaching max level.
I got 70 Int so far and I'm rising dex and int evenly with every level up.
The thing is that I can't cast Fire Bolt fast enough, even with 3 Fire Walls on, to hit the monster before it reaches me.
So I end up using the level 6 version of it to attack the monsters while they are held back by the Fire Wall.

Thank you all again for your help.
It's my first time ever playing a Mage in Ragnarok and so far I do really enjoy it :D

Are you using firewall like this?
