I agree, mechanics should not be broken and we should have a lag-free game, but those should be fixed server-side. I shouldn't be forced to download a 3rd party program to be evenly matched with other people.

I really can't say much more than that. I've never cared much for RCX but at the same time I've never cared much about people using it since it was considered against the rules. Now that the policy is changing, though, it's like Gravity saying that you need to have this 3rd party program to be evenly matched.

As for the green potion analogy... Green potions are an in-game item. For the situation with RCX, I think it would be better to say that you need to bring *insert other-MMO item here* to not have a disadvantage. RCX and RO are two completely separate things. I really hate downloading 3rd party content to play a game when those features should really just be included if they were meant to be there.

it's just that though--an analogy. RCX is easily accessible and not hidden from anyone's view. It's advocated on the official fan page. Newer players won't know about it initially--that's true. But newer players (and some older players) don't know the value of green pots in war. So, if you feel you're at a disadvantage, you adapt through experience. So you go download RCX or you walk your ass to the shop and buy green pots. It takes about the same amount of work, really.
You're right, some people don't like going off to download another program. Well, some people don't like walking into town to buy green pots either. ;D
So if you feel you're at THAT much of a disadvantage, do a little research..
Even so, the advantage you get from RCX isn't game breaking either. This isn't Autopot or autoTarget or autoBwing. I played without it for months. It's just convenient for when you need to turn effects off (and for leveling).

Isn't Lowerping & WTFast a 3rd party program that helps more than anything else with lag?

Warpportal won't advertise WTFast on their website if it's illegal 3rd party program

Lowerping and WTFast are allowed, GM team has stated this publicly on numerous occasions.

Just making a point that RCX isn't that bad now that its been stated as long as it isn't used illegally :3. My 1 cent (Sorry I lost the other cent in the washer).

So the "official in-house" tools that are in development, will they include the colored squares RCX has that show "gutter-lines" and dead cells that screw up splash damage attacks like Bowling Bash?

The reason for the post was a somewhat recent suspension, it shouldn't have been done via the spirit of our rules, but should be done due to the letter of the rules. So here I am adding specifics to those rules so that the spirit and letter of the rules, as they pertain to RCX, are accurate at this time.

It is one step in the right direction for giving players proper guidelines so they can obey, and then we can more accurately deal with cheaters without having lashback from suspensions that should/shouldn't happen. Too much "noise" confuses the issues at hand, this is me trying to clear the airwaves a bit so we can hear what is actually the issues and not the things that shouldn't have happened.

Competitive gaming today gains Zero Benefit from preservationist rhetoric; particularly for a game that can be considered still in Beta on certain mechanics well after 10 years of launch. Compromises are overcome and new standards are set. This is a fundamental philosophy that is integral to any seasoned participant.

Agreed. Automation and file editing is illegal. RCX, when adhered to the TOU guidelines, is a tool that simply prioritizes the information you receive in Real Time. It does not automate or edit.

Heim, since you're talking about developing your own in house tools, I would like to suggest a feature RCX had. Account collector. The ability to save logins and then use alt+ a number/letter to auto fill in the login for that account. I know I'm not the only one with a lot of logins, from leading a guild and having numerous storage accounts, to having numerous mvp accounts, side accounts for people to borrow for siege. This would be a wonderful feature to add.

You mean auto targeting? There is an illegal way to auto target skills or attacks on to a certain player when they come in screen range it would be the same as botting basically. I've heard people use it, but I have no way to identify or prove it.

Why is RCX much of a big deal I mean honestly A LOT of people do worse stuff in WoE and I rarely see them get banned. RCX can also be downloaded by everyone so its not like some people are ahead of others. My only worry is is that I read before that if you use RCX the GMs cant catch you unless you send proof to them but what about if you mod it to healslave or w/e is that when they CAN catch you or does someone else have to catch you doing that?

But they ARE broken, have been broken for years and they will not be fixed for at least couple years more. Simply wanting it to be fixed server-side doesn't make it fixed, it's just something we all have to deal with. You might be ok to just play with the broken mechanics, but it seems a lot are not. I can't really blame them, it shouldn't be too much to ask to use a roundabout way to fix something if it's going to take years to be fixed otherwise.

and hey, I live in Finland. I've been fine without using lowerping/wtfast for about 10 years now... When I leveled at stings I simply couldn't flywing before a cramp hit me. I was fine with it because I didn't know it could be any better - I thought I was just a bad player. Then a friend told me to try wtfast and lo and behold - my gaming experience became 100x better and I was like "holyshi- is this how the game is supposed to be played?! I can... I can play! Heyyy, this is actually kinda fun, that my chara does what I want it to do right now and not after 1-2 second..."

These kinda programs are meant to make your gaming experience better. It took me about half hour to read about wtfast/lowerbing differencies, 7 dollars, 5 minutes to install and three clicks for lowerbing to work, but I pay and do it gladly.

Maybe for some other people RCX is a similar experience - I hear it's pretty awesome for the BB gutter lines.

I really can't say much more than that. I've never cared much for RCX but at the same time I've never cared much about people using it since it was considered against the rules. Why exactly do you hate to download/use 3rd party programs?

fix it

^ This.

I know several people who actually got BANNED for the use of RCX in WoE in the past few months... and the worst thing is that GM's requested an ACCOUNT WIPE in order to get the accounts back...

If what Heim said is correct... what is gonna happen to those guys who w/o knowing about RCX policy and to keep playing the game, AGREED to the ACCOUNT WIPE and now they have to start all over again.

Heim, are you going to give them back their gears and such???

What does this have to do with the blatant allowance of cheating on both renewal and classic? This just looks like an attempt to sidestep outrage by posting irrelevant crap about rcx, which everyone already knows the rules surrounding.

^ this

More interested about addressing the cheating stuff rather than rcx

What about macro tools like autohotkey, hotkeyboard.

They don't hook into the client at all - and send keystrokes to the OS. They don't automate the gameplay entirely. You still have to press a key to trigger them to perform the commands you set.

Then lets take it even further. What about software like setpoint and intellitype that come bundled with a lot of new Windows systems. They allow the same features. Technically its a feature of the operating system and everyone has it.

You said packet sniffing and editing is out. What about packet senders?
The lets go deeper and darker. What about programs such as Smart Refine. http://forums.irowik...ead.php?t=85786

Checked with Heim and he says it's fine (so long as it only does upgrading) but not supported for tech issues.

Your forum moderators say you approve this 3rd party software. Why is that? Its a packet sender. You only support packet senders when it automates people spending money on the game?

What about using the clients inbuilt packet blocking technology to selectively block (or send) other packets? Technically not using any software at all.

Cmon you said you were going to go into a long detailed post.

I see a lot of people here who are slightly clueless about RCX.....

RCX is a visual interpretation of what you can already see. A skilled player already knows the range of stormgust/LoV/quag/ME etc. The AoE feature of RCX is indeed one that should be built into the game.

Now here's an issue re RCX: It provides a lot of functions on classic that are standard in renewal. It fixes bbaattttlleemmooddee and it provides skill buff timers. Including BMs and insurance and the like. So on classic, RCX is instantly more appealing. Lets not get into gridlines and AOE there.

Minimaps are not a feature of RCX. That is a client edit.
Anyone using those WoE minimap updates are using a different program unrelated to RCX to alter their grf and also provide themselves with nodelay, on top of altered mvp sprites for easier tagetting and shrunken WoE 2 barricades. That program must fall under Absolutely Banned because nodelay is bs. (so is the other stuff it does).

RCX has a donators feature. If you pay, you can open up the automaton and full replay feature (the other classic issue that RCX fixes) through that program.
At this time donation has not been working for a while. I beleive all suspects of automaton should just be tested live as such. The chances of finding someone using automated gameplay as a feature of RCX now are very very slim. If they're using Kore, AHK, RCX to automate gameplay, then gtfo.

This post is good news however Heim. Glad to see it clarified to the community.

Well while on the topc of In-house Tools... How about a set of "Macro" Buttons you can bind to your skill bar that can cast a range of skills rather than having to take up an entire hotbar? I know for my I tend to use my G510 Keyboard and set several keys on one macro to reduce some strain of casting a bunch of buffs while freeing up some fingers where they need to be (For healing, etc)

Except in the case of a Macro Slot (or slots) This would kinda make pre-casting easier in terms of WoE as well before rushing a castle, etc.

For example. Macro 1: Canto, Coluseo, Prefatio, Clementia, etc (Most of the Self-Buffs/AOE Buffs) Would all be in one little draggable button that you can set up on your hot bar.
Though this will PROBABLY be difficult to do with targetted spells as it would cast the spells constantly and ask for targets. (I've tried this on my keyboard, it was annoying and gave up)

It's just one of the few examples of things you can do.

Oh and from RCX Features to In-House Tools: Monster HP bar? This is a long feature we've all been waiting for the longest time and would hope it comes out early in 2013.

Certain features continue to work. Timers etc don't/ Gridlines and replay do.
