One thing that should be noted is that all these 3rd-party software are ALLOWED by MMOs because:
1. They don't give players any sort of in-game advantage.
2. They don't modify your MMO clients or game servers.
3. They help advertise MMOs (and other games) to people that have never played them.
These applications are NOT the same as bot programs and the like because those actually do give you unfair advantages in your games amongst other things. They go against many MMOs' terms of service, whereas game clients do not.
The main reason why I'm letting newbies be aware of this is because game clients are a great way for veterans to help newbies from outside of the game. They are also excellent for players to stay in touch with friends that play other MMOs and set up play dates for a particular game.
