Hey everyone.

So, I actually play RO on here and noticed this new Dragon Saga game popping up, and upon looking at it some more, it looks pretty fun, so I'd like to try it out.

I've never played or heard of this game before until it popped up here, so I know absolutely nothing about this game. For someone totally new, what would be a good starting character? I like healing/supporting, magic attacks, and long range attacks. I guess that's magician and archer.

I'm not looking to level the fastest or be the best at PVP or PVE, but just to have fun. I know in other games I play, people focus so much on leveling and getting as high as possible that it kind of ruins the experience for newcomers. Though, I don't want to be too gimped at the start and have to rely on others just to advance.

I like playing the healer/buffer the most and then archer or magician next. Is the Monk > Priest > Invoker (according to the names of the classes on the website), the one I want? I think it is referred by everyone as Acolyte > Priest > Cleric. Would that be a good starting character? Or would the archer route be more fun? What's the difference between the two archer routes?

Is there a newbie guide anywhere or a wiki compiling all the info, kind of like Ragnarok Online's wiki ( irowiki.org )? It seems like it's easy to mess up on the skills and have to remake. Are stats automatically allocated?

Thanks!

Since I am a noob myself Ill try my best...

IMO!! (my opinion) If you just like having fun the acolyte would be sweet too because of diffusion cannon which means you just use your normal attack that is juked up to the max and is like a beast and you also heal, freeze, turn people into frogs, etc.

There is a wiki being made but I can't find the link if you google hard enough you should find it, its relavitely new.

Also there are no stats to allocate until later levels which you will probably know mwhat to do when that time comes. Also just have fun -_-

P.S Just to play normally you would do PvE the most if not all the time, so even though it may be hard to lvl up in the beginning theif may be better. I think they call it theif->infiltrater->rouge->savage? That would be the best to play as because of the spammable AoE's and yea... just something to think about.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Monks/priests are definitely the most support-oriented class in the game, and in the latest patch (which will be integrated into our version as soon as it opens), they get several new and useful offensive skills as well, making them one of the most well-rounded classes in the game, IMHO.

(Also, Monk-->Priest-->Invoker are indeed the new names for that class tree, the other names you mentioned are from another version of the game.)

It's best to just spend a few levels checking out each of the classes right at the beginning, just to get a feel for them. But you'll never really get a true feel for them without going much further into the game and checking out the later skills, which can take a lot of hours. I highly recommend watching some videos of the various late-game classes in action, as I think they give you a good overview of what to expect without having to go that far.

Mmm.. I like well-roundedness. Since in RO priests can fare pretty well offensively (well mainly against demons/undeads) and are full support characters. Perhaps I'll make this my main.

Since the first beta phase is only a weekend-long, I think I might just try out a lot of different classes and see what's right for me, like you recommend. How far do I need to get to see how a class is?

Archer is really tempting though... I love ultra high speed attacks! Haha.

I really don't believe that there are classes for "beginnings" and say "veterans" in this game. To be honest, they're all rather basic and the differences come to the obvious play style of the class. But I honestly can't say one class is harder to play than another. I will have to second Rimmy to suggest watching high level gameplay videos. Leveling low does some justice, however the class can change rather completely as you level up, along with what 'path/tree' one may take with their class. You'll have to excuse me for not using the proper term for such, as I don't really keep up with the actual lingo.

Well, I would say lv 45ish.
You would need a nice computer to do ultra high speed attacks with archers D:

totally agree. before the path the game didn't lag so much so specialist was easy. NOW EVERYTHING IS LAGGY so i play a harle now. Harle is definitely the funnest, but one of the hardest. Magicians don't cost much, too. Especially if u choose a Monk.

No, that's for a different version of the game before Gravity took over it. Use this Dragon Saga Wiki instead. Original link is from this topic.

EDIT: Hmm, there's a similar post going on that might be helpful. This was posted by iKnowMyABCs (original topic):

Monk- One of the most boring (unless you enjoy mass pressing one button) and easiest class to use. Heal, double shot and sparkling rock makes everything easy in both PvP and PvE. Great damage output and a healer. With health stack, they are hard to kill.

Wizard- Fairly balanced class. Still can heal over time, do considerable amount of dmg and can lock which is always useful in group pvp. With health stack and Slow Heal, they are very hard to kill.

Hunter- Due to the nature of a skill and set item bonus effect, they are very fast. More of a hit and run type of class. Has considerable amount of evade.

Marksman- One of the most underrated class. Not a lot of people have this class as main due to it having longer CD then other classes and having weird skill set to combo. Still has amazing burst dmg and with the right player in PvP, they are devastating.

Infiltrators- Recently more noob friendly after the Ambush buff. Is fairly decent in PvE and if played right, good in PvP. Daggers do insane amounts of dmg if all stacked on one monster/person. They begin to shine more once they hit 47 and get fly (QQ they might get nerfed).

Bandits- Pretty good at PvE and fairly bad in PvP unless you know the "how to play them right." Uses lots of pots so get ready to burn some gold if you start them. Otherwise, fairly good dmg output and can have fairly good evade.

Gladiators- One of the most hardest and weakest class to play IMHO. Due to the nerf on their new bro skills, they are extremely hard to play unless you are highly skilled. They begin to shine and hurt like hell when they hit 51. Otherwise, fairly decent dmg output. Since this is a warrior class, they have some health to tank hits.

Paladins- Arguably the best class in this game. Barunson (developers) must love this class due to it having everything. It has high blockrate, health, and attack power. And at 3rd job, they even get neg status removal with slow heal. If you want to play a class that's fairly boring, VERY good at PvP and fairly good at PvE, go for Paladins.

take consideration you are a new player, and probably don't have a lot of gold, the aco class tree is perhaps your best bet. like piels pointed out, acolyte get the diffusion cannon(which, don't up it more than the requirement for next skill, it'll save you a reset when you get double shot), allowing them to bulldoze through mobs, along with new offensive skills. they cost almost no money. the instant heal is way better than healing potion in every aspect, and only cost 100mp. their MP potion consumption rate is the lowest of all classes, so the only thing you really use money on other than buying gears would be repairs. Cheap to maintain and a monster bulldozer, i like where that's going :D

I was in your shoes b4, and as you can see in my sig, i tried pretty much all classes. I highly recommand shamans for starting class, but do explore yourself for a class that suit you. enjoy the game

Edit: looking at the post above me, i feel i should make some corrections:
1. monk class is in fact, not as boring now, since the addition of new attack skills
2. gladiator's bear atk, im gone bear, does launch, just have to follow it up rapidly with storm blade

also... agree with AceHigh, ppl complain bout paladins on every post...
