Hey all, I thought I'd share my experiences from previous RO2 betas for the new players among us without going into too much detail. This will not cover anything endgame related, just some advice on becoming an assassin and what to do about stats and skill points.

If you are looking for a more in-depth guide, read Faulken's Assassin Guide.

Job Change
When you reach level 25, you can become an Assassin in Prontera. The job change quest will be given to you wherever you are as soon as you hit the level requirement, so you will not need any guides or whatsoever for this.

Skills
Unlike RO1, you can carry skill points from your thief to your assassin. I advice any assassin to have 7 SP saved up when you job change, so you can instantly level your shadow form to level 5. This skill will change your looks and give you a 30% attack power and 30% movement speed boost. It is well worth saving the points for, especially for PvE purposes.

As for thief skills I recommend training skills in the following order: Throw Dagger 1, Poison Weapon 1, Double Attack 5, Deadly Blow 5.

My recommended (DPS oriented) build for a lvl 25 assassin: http://ro2base.com/b...1.1.1/0.0.0.0.0

Stats
After trying AGI and STR builds, I recommend you to build STR before AGI. The actual crit and evasion rates which you can see in your stat window are heavily influenced (scaled down) by your level and thus do not scale all that well. Your attack damage however, does not and this makes STR the better investment.

I recommend 46 STR, 33 AGI and 8 VIT as your final build, and to only invest in STR while you are a thief.

Cards
Like RO1, don't worry too much about cards at the beginning: just stick whatever good STR / AGI cards you can find in your slots.

Profession
If you're playing with friends, split professions between you. If you're solo, I recommend alchemist.

I wouldn't invest points in Throw Dagger as you will only be using it to pull mobs, Shadow Cloak would be the better investment.

There's also the Genocide Mark vs Shadow Cloak discussion: 2% crit for your party or 5% crit for yourself... I'll leave that one open.

Yea the skills I might change I rely only put that link up for status, but I do solo allot so I like to pull to prevent agroing other mobs so I kinda like the higher damage from the throw dagger for that reason.

Thanks for the info,
NLJarin

Assassins are a fun class to play and everyone will have fun playing it. Visit my thread about assassins to get a lot more of information and don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions.

Also, Assassins can be experimented as a class. Try building a crit one or a pure dmg type and see for yourself!

Ah, I see you posted an in-depth guide. I put a link to it in my first post as well.

Yea the skills I might change I rely only put that link up for status, but I do solo allot so I like to pull to prevent agroing other mobs so I kinda like the higher damage from the throw dagger for that reason.

Even so, you will not be using it as often as your other attacks, unless you plan to kite your mobs to death, hence I suggested to invest the points is more crit, which all your skills will benefit from.

Oh, I simply meant that I added a reference to your more in-depth guide, no need to link back here to be honest, these are just general tips for new players.

I would like to see your opinion on assassin's skills though, what to level and what not. Could you cover that in your guide?

I made a short personal opinion on each skill of Assassin below the skill. Is that enough?

Hmm, I suppose I'm a bit of a critical reader, I would have liked to see more about whether to level a skill or not, and if so which ones would be the absolute must-haves and why.

I once did a pretty in-depth analysis on assassin damage, I'll see if I can find my old writing and make it work with the new numbers. Might prove to be an interesting read for whoever is interested.

Resembles mine, I'd drop the points in Shadow Fang and spend them in Shadow Armor (panic button) and Shadow Assault (utility). Your single target damage rotation deals the same amount of damage as attacking 4 creeps with Level 2 Shadow Assault continuously, so you might as well do that.

I was kinda unsure where to put those 2 points so I kinda just put them into Shadow Fang for an AOE just in case of agro more than one mob lol

It's not a bad thought, it's just that you'll usually deal more damage in total (and use a lot less sp) with your single target rotation. It's the better option sustain-wise too, taking down one opponent at the time, so overall you would only use Shadow Fang when you're facing 5 or more enemies - and if you ask me: if you're facing 5 enemies as a Assassin, you're doing it wrong ;)

I found Armour to be a nice panic button: I hardly used it but it did save my life more than once. The point in Assault brings a lot of utility (a leap with 3s knock down) and one could argue that it should be levelled up instead of Genocide Mark. The damage the two provide per invested skill point are about equal though, so in my opinion the latter is better because it's a party buff.

If it's just damage you're after, that build will do. Assault in from Hiding, get 5 points quick with Strike and double attacks, burst with Explosion and then deal whatever damage you need. Shadow Armour is a must have PvP skill, as most people are very predictable. For example, as soon as a Monk activates Fury, activate it to mitigate the double Asura that is bound to hit you.

You could opt to put the lvl in Assault instead of Strike, considering you will be using both while fighting anyway, Assault is the skill you'll do from Hiding and this will thus do double damage on the first use. That said, the increases per skill level on Strike are better so I'd go for that one anyway.

I'm personally not a great fan of Hiding in PvP because it only works out of combat, so you can only use it to catch someone off guard. Rogues can hide while in combat, Assassins cannot. There are people however, that say Hiding and Cloak Hiding are must have skills for PvP.

While I'm far from an expert since I have had limited play time here, Shadow Leap and Shadow Armor look to be good damage mitigation tools. I'm hearing rumor of melee DPS being gibbed in raids, so I imagine if we can leap to an off tank target to escape the mains boss AoE that would be nice, or just survive with Shadow Armor up.

What about VIT in the assassin build? How much is enough for raiding and does it give much if any HP at max level? Does it scale with gear?

VIT gives a flat 6 HP per point.
The stat bonuses on green and better gear go up proportionally with level and quality.

It's really a matter of preference how much VIT you want to get through stat points. Despite max HP being such an issue, most people still don't get VIT, because they feel they get enough through their equipment, cards, runes, title, and buffs. And gradually, as their equipment gets even better, thus raising their HP even further, they replace their VIT cards and runes for offensive stat ones.

In seaRO2, the general cutoff point I would hear was 5k HP to get invites. There was a little leeway, if you were close enough for buffs to push you over 5k. Last time I paid attention though, some people raised the cutoff point to 6k HP. I don't know if it was specifically for the newest raid, but some people just don't discriminate between raids.
It wouldn't be as much of an issue if the cooldown on Res weren't 30-50 minutes.

If possible, just try to get into a guild that does raids, and is willing to bring along melee DPS. Or make your own PUGs.
