Everytime I enter the Colusseum I just get my behind devastated. It's either that or I'm just surrounded by level 50s in a "equal level" match. I can only advance up to around Round 3 as a level 27 wizard and after that it's just assassins and rangers tearing me a new one with 1-5k hits when all I have is a slow charging firebolt and lightning bolt which I dub "The Kill Stealer"

So any tips for you PVP wizards? Or should I just leave that behind for the more burst damage Sorcs?

I'd say focus on leveling and sit back and relax on colos till you ding 50, keep stocking bloodpoints! A full build is kind of necessary for a wiz to work. The dot, the teleport, ice wall, seal explosion (both offensive with fire seal and defensive with water seal), the stun and maybe even inferno for easy multidoting in a brawl... Right now you're pretty much a magician with a cool outfit! Sure, you'll never be as annoying as a ranger jumping everywhere and spamming like no tomorrow, nor a sorc/priest and their allmighty KS moves, but it does get better.

I'm still trying to figure out Wizard PvP myself. The two main problems seem to be survivability and dealing enough burst damage to secure kills. Standing still and firebolting somebody isn't too bad damage-wise, but either the person runs away and I lose them to a KS when trying to chase, or another person locks onto me since I'm an easy stationary target and shreds me before I can finish.

It's not all bad, I've gotten some pretty good scoring rounds, but I can't maintain any sort of consistency. Also my success seems to hinge heavily on how many Rangers/Assassins/Sorcerers there are in the same arena, as those are the classes that are good at shredding Wizards. There's also the luck of how often monsters lock onto you. (I had a round where 5-6 monsters locked onto me at once...)

Probably the only real tips I have are to stay moving a lot to try to prevent people from getting a lockon, since that often means death, and that Teleport can be used to chase down fleeing targets. Using Teleport defensively is mostly limited to the slow non-ranged classes like Knight or Rogue.

Please dont tell me the gear is required for high level raiding because this stuff is absurd. Gravity never made a good PVP balanced game so I hope not.

No, it's not required. Unlike the CoA gears these PvP ones are based on, they don't give set bonuses.

It is convenient though when you're still in the Bapho/PvE phase and you have blood points to spare. Think of Colo as a part time job-

It's either that or I'm just surrounded by level 50s in a "equal level" match. I can only advance up to around Round 3 as a level 27 wizard ...

I might be wrong in assuming, but it seems you're under the impression that every other player in the arena are actually level 50. It's an "equal level" match because everyone becomes level 50 and the stats are standardised, including your own.

The differences between you and other players are the number of skill points you acquired through -real- levels. There could be a level 12 Swordsman running about and you will still see him as a level 50. :heh:

Teleport, Frost Nova, Ice Wall are just so good for survival and killing too (except Ice Wall~)
Anyway, finished 3rd just now, not bad!

Run in circles, use fire flower on anyone and everyone, and fight people who are at low health. If someone hits you it's a great time to teleport away. They'll usually stop attacking you. Don't be afraid to fight monsters as well. Also, bring buff food. =D

I haven't won but I've been getting to the last round almost every time since I was level 25. Wizard is great in colo.

Coloing as a Wiz? Easy.
Fire Flower all the enemy you see, Firebolt every low health enemies, kill mobs. When banged, ICE WALL, tele, Frost Nova.
PROFIT.

Well the first 2-3 rounds are reasonable because there's more class balance... but after that you're mostly dealing with Rangers, Sorcs, and Priests. (I haven't been seeing many Assassins get high lately.) The Priests are impossible to kill 1v1, and the other two range classes both drop Wizards very fast and aren't penalized much by Teleport and Frost Nova. (Rangers prove to be annoyingly good at chasing people down.) I just can't figure out how to survive in a group with that class combo, and end up spending most of my time laying on the ground where I can't get any killing done. :p_swt:

Hey there. Im also (at the time of post) a lvl 27 wizard and I just made it to the top 10 and was number 7 for next round but only 6 make the cut. The difference I catch between me and other wizards I often see is that my build focuses alot more on survivability by dropping certain dps traits. First my build : http://ro2base.com/b...1.1.1/0.0.0.0.0 I use seal of water so that explosion is at the ready (got both skills maxed already) This gives me the same Heal as a BM as 5% every 10 sec for 40 sec = 20% plus I have a fallback heal of 50% and I took Frost nova which at rank 5 allows you to just own warriors and knights. Which are my bread and butter. If an assassin attacks you Just frost nova him and teleport away. Trust me someone will pick him up. Stay away from BM unless they are being group killed and Healers are too long of a fight and not worth the 1 kill when you could have killed 4 knights or warriors. Sorc is an even fight for us but even if he gets you often your dots will take him. Anyways just keep trying and by the time you are lvl 50 I have confidence you will figure it out. And in the end remember this is just my opinion.

I have been putting a lot of AGI for Critical hits and I love it! Do you think this will help with PVP?

Teleport and Fire Flower is your friend.

-Keep on running
-Keep on "Tabbing"
-Put Fire Flower on everyone

-When you see a low hp player, stop and do your FIre Bolts/Balls
-When you see a running low hp player, chase him/her with Lightning Bolts (even if it's only Lv1)
-When you see a mob of monster/player, use Inferno (while running)
-When someone hits you, Tele > Water Seal > Seal Explo > Fire Seal (while running)
-Use Ice Wall wisely

That's it.

P.S.
Ignore the person who's hitting you unless he/she has lower hp than you. Just keep on running and putting Fire Flowers on everyone. The person who's hitting/chasing you will give up once you get full hp from Water Seal + Seal Explo.

P.P.S.
Do not fight like a Sorc. Most Wiz I see in Colo just stands there doing their bolts....being very vulnerable. Sorcs can kill someone in 4hits; Wizards can't. If you die a lot and kills less, you'll get eliminated.

I highly doubt Gravity will make Wizards any viable for PVP. They have a poor track record of balancing.

I've won Colo last night and got #2 in the bonus colo.

It was awesome. My new build seems to be very effective at getting kills (though I still get KSd plenty too!)

Protip: Lose Fire Explosion entirely.

OOT: Do you guys find it annoying when using tab the system just aimed for monsters rather than players? Sure, you uncheck the monster box in auto target option, but mine seemed bugged. To auto aim players in colosseum, the monster box needs to be checked otherwise you cannot target anything and anyone :/

Back to topic. FIre Explosion is useless mark my words (unless you're building a full PVE Wizard, then it's ok to put a single point in it, although many PVE Wizards drop this skill too)

Flame explosion isn't useless-- it's INSTANT damage before the animation even takes effect. If you had to actually wait for the animation to finish, like with firebolt & fireball-- then yea, I'd agree. But the damage takes full effect the second you activate it, giving you a quicker burst that's not possible to beat with any other skill.

Yeah 2 fire bolts can do more damage, but they also require more time. Charge up time, cast, wait til it hits...then charge it up again, cast, wait til it hits... (and hope none miss and both crit!). You guys are looking at numbers on paper more than the actual skill effect in real-time, which isn't a good way to judge something.

In PvP it's actually more effective than PvE, because of both the instant damage & stun. The stun is deceptively helpful because it gives you 3.5 extra seconds to use a potion-- which you can use even in the middle of the animation-- where in some situations it would otherwise be too late and you'd be dead.

The negative about the skill is needing the 100 stacks to build up to, but there ARE fights where it is especially helpful, even 1 v 1's. Try fighting against FS priests in duels or even 1v1 in the colo without flame explosion-- you will almost always lose if the priest knows what he's doing. Of course you want to avoid those kinds of fights, but there will be times you get stuck with no one else in the vicinity and not much of a choice.

What will someone do if they hit a final round with 3 priests? Pray they get lucky?

With flame explosion, those longer fights give you another way to "checkmate" so to speak, just like using ice wall in the last 10 seconds of the final round. Your opponent will now have *two* things to worry about, and as the fight goes on without you dying (via teleporting and freezing them, lets say) they will get more and more nervous that your [deadly] instant-burst explosion might be ready to use.

*Edit* I was the one playing as brittany in the champ video a few posts back, to give myself a little credibility.

Well I learned to tab target now, which makes targeting a bit easier, but I can't replicate the kind of finishing success xxalucard has. Most of the times the target dies to another player or monster while my Firebolt is taking a year to get to them, so I never get the kill and get kicked out in round 3-4 since I can't score enough vs the better burst damage classes. >_>

That seems to be the main issue, other then still being murdered by Rangers/Sorcs that lock on first.

In regards to Flame Explosion... can only see it being used against Priests. Otherwise, you don't Firebolt enough times to get 100 madness. If only you could charge Madness with Lightning Bolt so that you could power it up while pursuing

I'm not Theorycrafting numbers, I'm speaking from experience. Ever since I dropped Fire Arms and Fire Explosion in favor of Wind Arms, its awesome.
Much easier time in colo (and winning it).
