Its sad because half of the time in woe, certain classes need effects on to see safetywall,pnuema, ME, dance skills, and etc.
The thing is once you put on effects, the ugly auras causes lag.

You know if you weren't all just randomly spamming whatever AoE there is actually a reason to know what kind of headgear your opponent is wearing.

The queue lag is completely unrelated to lag from auras and spell effects - we need to keep the two separate in our discussion.

The costumes had nothing to do with the type of lag you see from aura/effect - that's machine lag (your computer choking while rendering the scene, because of the crapola inefficient graphics engine RO uses).

The removal of costumes coincided with the end of queue lag. It did not help other kinds of lag.

I'm very disappointed in you dr azzy!
D:< If you need to know, not everyone would use the lamp or cake hat.
besides, cake hat is kawaii.
> :o you aren't think of the other costume gears people are capable of using.
Besides most costumes looks cuter than Turkey hat, and CEB and RPB is like way last season.

Cake hat gives 50sp - making it arguably the best choice for DB RK (The 10 luk is tempting though, for masq resist)
Tarnished Lamp gives +10 luk, making it the best choice for everyone else.

Are there any other costumes with effects? We already know that the majority of people in WoE would be happy to wear something that looks like -_- (literally - remember when poo hat was the only -10% from demi hat? Every one wore it.) if it had the best stats. So costume in WoE would be a sea of tarnished lamps, and a few people on lizards with birthday cakes on (unless I'm forgetting some OP costume gear)

Restoring costumes to WoE when we have these costumes with stats would result in less diversity in what we see people wearing, not more - there are only two functional costumes, and far more WoE-usable headgears.

I want everyone to get free costumes to cover up all the alarm masks/witch combos.

Who wears WPH set in WoE? o_o you lose the 16% reduc from CEB/RPB...

You know if you weren't all just randomly spamming whatever AoE there is actually a reason to know what kind of headgear your opponent is wearing.

For example, if they're wearing a WPH set, you know they're under supplied and lack reduction, and hence are less of a threat than the guy wearing CEB/BDM/HiM.

All the more reason to enable costumes, I don't like people to know what I am wearing.

It's really not viable to play with /effect if you can't see the skills cast such as strings, manholes, etc. With RCX you're able to customize what you want to see in colored tiles, but the recent 14.2 update bugs out your client if you turn on RCX. I wish /mineffect had a better minimizing effect, so that there's an efficient in-game alternative instead of just doing /effect.

It was done after the merge when WoE was lagging horribly (queue lag - that's when you lag, and then your character goes through all the actions you tried to do, in order, several seconds after you tried to do them - it's caused by the server getting bogged down), and the hope was that disabling it would fix the lag. I'm not sure where they came up with that idea, but WoE stopped lagging when they did so - so I guess that's what was doing it.
I can't rationalize why, but who cares. I'd rather have fun WoE without costumes than laggy WoE that wasn't worth coming to with costumes. I think Oda discussed it in the maint threads at the time, so look back to maint threads shortly after the great merger for more details.

Also, as an aside, WoE headgears would be uglier with costume. Everyone would have a tarnished lamp or birthday cake. And both of those are fugly.

I disagree the lag did not magically disappear when they disabled costumes, it was laggy as hell for many months after they disabled costumes. Id say your account of the lag going away is faulty. Queue lag is as of a result of people using 3rd party programs to spam packets at unreasonably high rates so fast that the server slows down to work on the back log, what typically happens is the person who used that program gets all his packets dealt with first and everyone else on the map comes to a standstill. It's basically a flood. You can see this when you come onto the packet abusers screen and suddenly he unleashes 20-30 Dragon Breaths and your entire guild is completely unable to move use skills or pot. It ends in a wipe. This makes everyone else on the map server lag out at the same time. What happens is that multiple users all abuse this packet spamming technique and the server starts to slow down, especially when there is a large clash between guilds and the packet injectors in particualr.

What gets me is the gm's have zero idea that this even happens and when they disabled costumes dident really understand what was causing problems they were just randomly lashing out trying to do anything in the hope the lag would lessen. The GM's need someone with real knowledge about networking, packets and the extent they are abused with the ro client/server so that they can get to the bottom of this and hopefully then at least understand the scope of the problem. But I am betting that not even one gm could replicate what these people are doing if their job depended on it.

They really should enable costumes in woe, people want to show off and the prime time to do that is during woe. Thats when everyone is the audience and the video's are recorded.

PS if a gm really wants to know how all this is done, go ahead and pm me. I can actually explain the technical, network, code and how it all links into the ro client/server. If you have experince in IT network/programming and reverse engineering then it's actually not that hard to screw with the ro client.

Yes please, re-enable Costumes in WoE !! If it does get re-enabled, it will be funny seeing 90% of the WoE-ers wearing the Costume Lamp lol :heh:

I don't know! But it would be nice to see a useful /mineffect. I genuinely believe that it's not possible to play with full effects on without lagging in WoE, yet there are so many things to look out for so you can't turn them off either.

mineffect is already active in WoE. Try using it outside a castle with something like Magnificat or Gloria, and you'll see the difference.

I completely agree... it's a real shame because WoE looks really boring when there's no effects on, especially when you're making videos. And I think skills like Manhole/Chaos Panic/etc should be able to be seen somehow even with effects off. I would be happy just being able to see my own skill effects. .-.

So basically all it does is minimize certain AB spells. Not too helpful. xD

Sorry but the point of this thread is to get a response of when will costumes be reenabled.
@Dr Azzy.
Of course some people will use costume headgears for the effects, BUT lets not forget, people use the costumes to cover up their headgears. -__- I for one wouldnt use either cake hat or the lamp; because I'd use my Cowboy one.
Theres no point in the gms making costumes, when half the damn server only play RO for woe.
@Teffa
Qurl, people shouldnt have to do all of that to reduce lag. Plus that reduces lag for our laptop, not the game. -__-
@Chiyo and Alaska
yall two are like the people who understand what I mean. Like holy cow, people have to play with effects on to know wtphaq is going during woee!!!
