I'm starting a new mage because I made mistake in skill points he was only level 4-5 no biggie, anyways I alrady have level 16 swordsman with black smithing 12-13, and a theif with level 10 artisan and hes level 9.

I was thinking going chef or alchemist, I know they are both good early game.

However I may not stick to my mage yet, just trying out mage and the acolyte till level 10-15, so far theif is pretty fun, able to kill 1vs1 target with very few hits, all tho mage is pretty fun too able to kill targets before the get to me, expect for bosses.

Anyways

Another question should I not bother putting points into my skills still 25? I hear u can do fine with having level one skills, all tho u should max out frost driver.

they have changed the game so that all class get reset at job change[level 25] to better skill for chosen class. it is no longer just monks and beastmasters is how I read the Patch notes 7/10[ Job change will lead to initialization of skill and stat.] mage is very fun for me but may not be your cup of tea. either way you decide to go enjoy the game and best luck

^ really? i haven't heard about that but i might have missed it.

I would suggest u to look through all the guides for sorc/wiz and add the ones that are needed for dps (coldbolt for sorc/ firebolt for wiz i believe)

You can put points into any skill you want for faster leveling before changing to your 2nd class, after which it will give you a free stat/skill reset.

Aright thanks, but what about chef or alchemist which would be better? the other two are good also but I find u can get gears in drops and quest that are just as good as ones u make early game.

IMO, Alchemist would be better as you can make pots for yourself or sell them at Auction House.

Chef is pretty redundant right now because of the hourly/daily food items you get.

It kinda depends on what you are going to do with your mage.

I went alchemist on my mage but she was going wizard. I find it more useful because she goes through lots of potions. if you are going Sorc there are healing spells, so probably don't need potions as much.

I have a chef on priest  because as fs built the extra buffs from food helped it kill faster with only a lvl 1 attack since it can self heal and replenish sp.

as wizardess I go through hp pots like crazy while solo questing and sp pots like crazy in dungeons that's why I made her an alchemist. crafted pots give better help than dropped ones

however artisan is nice since you can craft your own armors and get to make runes

or if looking to long run blacksmith for the weapon making for all class'

the choices are versatile as you can see. either way you choose best luck :)

My Wizard never went through that many hp pots, especially once you have 1 Water Emblem 5 Seal Explosion - every 2 minutes heal 50% hp and sp

I don't use anything but fire... purify the evils from the world with fiiirrreeeee

yes I know it may not be the most effective build but I like it.

also stands till and wait for water seal to heal.. or spam hp pots and keep killing... hmmm

Why would you stand still? And what hp pots can you spam? 10s and you get half your hp/sp back. I haven't used a pot for questing/farming since.

Dungeons/raiding is another story, though. Not wasting a seal explosion on that.

*sigh*

Hp pot gives amount shown in tool tip + a percentage according to your hp. there is a post in these forums showing the exact formula search and find it.

^ as you can see crafted pots give more than dropped pots.^

with seal explosion I get 50% hp every 120 sec. and for me at time of this pic would = 1071 hp.

120 divided by 10 = 12

crafted pots:

12 times 554 = 6648 hp in the same amount of time as your seal explosions cd time.

6 times 554 = 3324  hp in the same amount of time as your seal explosions cd time.

dropped/store bought pots:

12 times 362 = 4344  hp in the same amount of time as your seal explosions cd time.

6 times 362 = 2172  hp in the same amount of time as your seal explosions cd time.

either way I get more from pots than I do seal explosion

at mid levels with my mage spamming lvl 3 crafted hp pots I will recover more than 500 hp every 7ish seconds if needed vs 50% every 120 sec. soloing field mobs and bosses for quests, or even simple tab kill farming just seems easier with 7 sec cd pots than with 120 sec cd seal to me.

you can depend on your seal explosion healing every 120ish seconds that is fine.

I enjoy my play style and build as you do yours. there is no one right way to play, only the way that you enjoy is right for you.

I gave the OP the information they asked for by explaining how I did it for 2 different characters and why I did it.

I also showed them the other jobs potentials so they could get a better idea of what may fit their play style best.

also while I note that you seem to question my play style you did not address the OPs question in any way at all.

edited to correct math
