Nontradable items exploitation discussion thread

Personally I think it's the developers fault for missing the loop holes. They do their best to produce time consuming ingame shenanigans to maintain the amount of people playing at anytime, I.e. Dna farming, raid lock, union questing (prior to the event) although I might think some of these are reasonable. While bp farming's one of them, I think they shot thrermselves in the foot this time, there's no better time to abuse the -_- out of this excploit too now that were getting instant colo gear from the event..
What I'm intrerersted in is how the administrators gonne tackle this. It's easy to find out the exploiters u say, and?
Are u gonna turn a blind eye or ban 75% of the active community?
Imo the best solution is to fix the bug, let the perpeertrators off the hook and give free full t2 colo set to lvl 50 non rule brerakers, that's jus me.
But I think the most appropriate action is to perma ban all rule breakers because it's blatant rule breaking what they've done

This bug's been around for a while now, so far no rage threads about being banned.
They could easily do it u kno, ban people... Whatks keeping them from doing so is fear of player base outrage, tis not ecacty the same as the guild cape fiasco no

They kind of have to ban the ones openly vending bound items but it's the more sneaky trades im concered about it. You might be not be banned as quickly yet if GMs bother to sift through the gamelogs they will eventually find you and you will be banned.

Bugs will happen no matter what.. the way exploits are in some games, it's extremely difficult for devs to find them all. Yet you blame them? And then want free handouts? That's uh.. I dunno whether I want to laugh or cry.
Given the items blatantly say you can't trade them, I fully agree with banning the people who are selling/trading them, and I think the buyers should have the items deleted without any sort of zeny/item refund.. so both sides lose. Hopefully the CMs/GMs have a good way to track this so they can come down heavy on those that abuse it. Finding an odd exploit should mean immediately running to make a ticket to get it fixed.. not immediately planning out how best to profit.

Haboob is right. They don't need sherlock for them to know you're doing some sort of anomaly, it's a computer program ffs, they see everything, have records and logs, hard facts they could use against you. So either be safe kids or be ready coz your days are numbered, I heard SEA's pretty low in numbers these days

I think mainly those who opened the vends in Alberta and announced on the trade channel will be banned, if not already. Reported cases will be investigated, but not all will receive punishment. Many people used the exploit, for different reasons. Some transfered stuffs to their alts (any item trace will show that), while others just tested the exploit, but destroyed the stuffs down the road.
Banning isn't the best solution for all cases. If you have the logs, you can just identify the items that were obtained by the bug and remove them. And them put a warning to the offender and tag the account. Next offence in the same lines, then apply a ban. It is a matter of how things will be done that will determinate the future of the server.
If you go medieval and apply the harshest punishment to all cases, it won't do more good than bad in the end. Pettry much because each case is each case. As they said they would investigate all cases they find, they may give proper punishment to each one of them. Should Some players probably be given a chance to redeem themselves by allowing them to delete the items? Could be interesting, who knows.
But if you sit and think a bit about it, when looking at coloseum equips, it may do some sort of good effect to the server itself. How? Why? Think the number of new people that will be able to do CoA. Many people hate colo and don't do good in it. Some quit because of how long they would take to get all the stuff. (It took me a month going to all colo times to get my sorc to full colo, and it was a terrible experience.) While it isn't an excuse to allow people to trade colo stuff, it made more people able to move ahead on the game.
There are many variables to be taken into consideration.

Yeah, I wouldn't try exploiting this this bug. All they would have to do is search "Honor Knightage" on the trade logs, if that was possible. But the damage doesn't start from there, the bug practically works on anything (ie: Tokens, AoD, etc), if you didn't know.
It does really sound tempting as I have some gears on my main character that I would like to "transfer" my other.
What kinda bothers me the most though is the the it's taking to fix this. The "other" server managed to fix the problem within what looks like within five days (not sure what was the actual time frame) and suspended the exploiters for a week. So why not use the same fix? Don't tell me you're waiting until Wednesday to fix it.

is this how those oath helms are being sold on AH? or those helms are retrievable elsewhere besides winning colo?

I heard that "other" server did not fix it completely. People can still exploit the bug unfortunately...

This topic is a bait trap. It's impossible to voice your actual opinions without becoming suspected of performing the bug.
At the risk of appearing suspicious I think I will voice my real opinion here:
I do not agree with using this exploit for financial gain.
I do not agree with using this exploit to obtain an unfair advantage.
I do not agree with using this exploit to obtain gamebreaking items.
However,
I do agree with the concept of using this bug to transfer personal items accountwide.
I do agree with the concept of using this bug to trade bound items (within reason) to friends/family/guildmates(?) assuming profitable gain is not involved.
But most of all, I do agree with the concept of using this bug to obtain items that newer players receive exclusively, while being denied to the veterans who have remained loyal regardless of the flaws, lies, and deceptions they've experienced since the beginning.
That being said, it's impossible to monitor whether this exploit is being used responsibly or not, and there is no way to contain the greed in some people's hearts. The exploit needs to be fixed, and those responsible for opening up vendors in public and selling bound items need to be punished.

Greedy people never enjoy the game as it's fullest, always wanting more and better than the rest. And when they reach the end of the road, there's nothing else for them and they end up quitting.
Make your choice.

In case any of you haven't noticed, after the last patch, some items now have ID numbers in their description. These ID numbers are unique to YOUR CHARACTER, and are attached to the item once you bind an untradeable item (open pandora box, pick up boss wpn, etc.).
The showing of these ID numbers was probably unintentional, but I'm sure all bound items gotten after the patch have them now. This would explain the "additional patch" that caused the maintenance to go over-schedule last week.
Now, think about it for a moment. How hard would it be to go into the database tables and do a search (where user ID != item ID) to find all mismatching items? Not very hard at all. Quite easy actually. The results can easily be filtered for # of mismatched items and the seller of the items can be easily found.
This is quite simple to do, and should've been built into the game from the beginning. Besides, as of the last patch, everyone was well aware of the bug and knew not to do it. There was even an in-game message about it. If you get banned for it, then it's your fault.
Better throw away anything that you bought now, since buyers are just as guilty as the sellers.

Like this for example, obvious example of someone exploiting the bug? Or someone with half a brain that can piece together what this exploit is capable of?

well that's a differet perspective.. yea i agree, people in these kinda games are more interested in the "gain" of their own little group rather than that of the whole server, it's just reasonable u know, u only mean good for ur guildies, and there are people who do it for greed. that's why i said it'd be ineresting how the admins handle this.. they can't possibly investigate every single exploiter out there and here their rjustifications for theur actions
