Shields and Magic Shield Mastery

How does block defense work? Does it negate damage directly? What kind of damage does it blocks? Please answer. Thanks (^^,)
And is % block rate as is? Because i took Magic Shield Mastery of Templar, its description is "Increase Block Defense Power of Small Size Shield."
But has "Small Shield's Block Rate +(#depends on level of skill)". Can anyone help me clarify things before i reset. Please. Any help is appreciated. Thanks (^^,)

What would you prefer for a Radiant's Shield, or shouldn't get shield?...

You have 2 kind of block values:

• Block Defense
• Block Success %

Let's take this shield as an exemple. You have 40% chance to block and reduce 110 damages.

The Templar skill Magic Shield Mastery increase Block Defense and is useless as a Radiant.

And I believe it only works when people/monsters are auto-attacking you, so it's no use against skill attacks.
