Hello everyone. I picked up RO2 a few days ago and been having a good time but I just hit a bump in the road. I hit level 25. I wanted to play a rogue from the get-go but I was thinking it would be similar to the RO1 style. It had a lot of variety and had a fun assortment of skills. I looked at the skills and they differed greatly. I wanted to draw on the ground. :(

I have done some reading, others have told me that rogue does the higher DPS of the too but the assassin is more of a burst class(which I would assume is good for PvP).

I am really just mainly interested in having a good time. Which class is more fun to play, the rogue or assassin? I will probably PvP and PvE casually.

Can anyone tell me some of the primary differences in playstyle and skills between the two before I make this possibly character-ending decision?

Really, any adivce would be great.

Thank you it advance.

Assassins also have a heal skill now, Unlike how they used to. Both classes are good for pvp, Assassin has a extra 30% move speed with max shadow form, which helps ALOT in pvp against ranged classes that kite. Rogues have a DOT heal skill ( isn't working at this current patch but will soon hopefully ). If you're running on low budget, Pick assassin. Rogues are known for using potions to increase attack power.

For my opinion, now assassin can tank much more than rogue in PVE, due to the healing skill of assassin having now. The skill name <<grimtooth>> make assassin hard to die now, as they can use it for each 10 sec (with vigor it might be 5~6 sec), which heal assassin for 18% of hp >.< (For my opinion it is better than rogue DoT healing skill)

For rogue, now the developers did some changes, especially in one of the skills <<Mark of Death>>, which increase 20% damage output of the raid and additional 20% for rogue class (in total of 40% damage output ), and this will make rogue become popular in raid.

Do correct me if I provided wrong info~ Thx! =]

Sorrry for my bad English.

Yes, Rogues have the greater DPS but are slow and can only use teleport moves when hiding, which can only be done before battle or once/twice before cooldown when using Smoke Bomb.  If you're looking for the better PvP class, Assassins have +30% movement speed in Shadow Form, have that burst dps you were talking about, and Shadow Assault, a move that jumps on your opponent from a distance and stuns them.

And yes, as stated above, Assassins have Shadow Armor and a healing skill (Grimtooth).  Most notably Shadow Armor, which makes us, y'know, not get one-shot by boss AoEs.

Also lol, what you doing here in the Thief section LongSword, get back on your Warrior.

Thank you for the feedback. It seems like most people lean toward assassin. I have a few other questions that bring up some possible concerns(and some just because I am curious).

Is assassin overly played making it more difficult to find a spot for PvE? Are they probably considered second in choice compared to rogue due to the MoD skill?

I read that rogues may rely heavily on KSing with max level Dark Illusion(possibly with some other skills)? I don't want to wait for people to get weak and steal other kills. Does the assassin do the same?

What does Shadow Armor do? 50% increase in defense or evade rate?

The rogue skills are very specific in detail of what they do, however, I don't understand the assassin's skill set. For instance, "partially fusing with shadow fiend." Does that mean I cannot have this active with Shadow Form which states that you "completely fuse" with the shadow fiend? Can you have more than one shadow fiend at a time?

Also, I am alchemist so I can probably make my own potions to save money.

Again, thank you for the feedback. It has been very helpful.

Everyone relies on KSing. Being able to move faster makes sins less reliant on it because people can't run away from us as well and we're better at KSing anyway because we can use Shadow Assault without hiding.

Shadow Armor reduces incoming damage by 50%.

The "Partially fuse with a shadow fiend" bit is fluff. It has no effect. The skill is just a personal crit buff. If a sentence doesn't have numbers you can usually ignore it.

Skill summaries. Other threads have build advice. I'm not quite sure what to do with the new changes yet.
Grimtooth: Small AoE around the target, deals damage, generates one combo point per enemy hit and heals per enemy hit. Use for combo points and health.
Shadow Fiend: Passive damage boost that triggers randomly.
Shadow Claw: Personal crit buff.
Hiding Exceed: Increased movement speed while hidden. Fun but awful. Never take it. Don't even take the Thief skills that lead to it.
Shadow Fang: Large AoE around target, deals more damage if you have combo points but doesn't use them.
Shadow Armor: Reduces incoming damage by 50%. Useful for PvE and absolutely vital for PvP.

Shadow Explosion: Uses combo points to deal lots of damage. Very important.

Shadow Strike: Deals some damage and generates lots of combo points. Can make your next Shadow Explosion stronger. Also important.
Shadow Form: Max it and never turn it off. Your biggest buff.
Shadow Assault: Moves you to the target (up to 20m), deals damage, and causes knockdown. The movement and knockdown are more important than the damage so I don't recommend leveling it.

oh, also, now Rogues have an aditional effect to «Crescent Moon» which is "Fracture", at level 10, this side effect will make your oponent unable to use any sort of heal and slow them down in a 70% for 10 whole seconds. Perfect to kill Priests, Sorcerers, SoulMakers, Bears, Rangers... well, anything in general :/

Edit: to top it off, in colo you have a 30% base vigor, so this skill will be back in 10 seconds :v

forever slowed down v:!!

Oh, and a maxed «Smoke Bomb» would be back in 60 seconds by itself, which btw its supposed to have a passive 5 seconds immunity now, so jumping on people's back in mid fight in far away distances is now even more possible without relying on hiding that much. (altho those 5 seconds immunity aren't working atm).

Combining the 2 skills, you can hide, use «Dark Illusion» and Crescent Moon with 1 combo point, which will only knock them down for 1 second, but the Fracture effect should still last for 10.

Have fun :v!!

Yea, personally I like the new effect of <<Crescent Moon>>, but I have no enough skill point for it  :sob:  And since I focus on PVE, so I think I will just leave that skill at lvl 1. Unless they change it and make it to able to stun bosses  :p_omg: LOL

Trust me rogues are so useless right now

- gangster paradise broken

- no more CRIT, I went from 35% UB before patch to 17% >.<

- hit rates will screw you over, don't get caught up by those skill descriptions 1000% damage or whatever because you often miss when it counts

SInce rogue now is focusing on AGI to get more hit rate, dodge and critical compare to other classes, which means we need to have an AGI build instead of STR?   :p_sick:
