Can someone explain me the " Throwback Thursday"?

It was/is something going around on social media. On a Thursday, the tradition was to post a picture of yourself from the past. Maybe your father would post a picture of himself in High School, your grandparents as a younger couple, or... yourself from years ago in Santa Suits with old friends in the Training ground doing anything but training.

Edit: Example: That Santa picture I posted was dated 2009. The others I've done in weeks past were from even earlier. There's also no reason for anyone else not to post a picture as well to keep with the social media tradition and mood.
