I noticed recently that even without buffs, I am able to be nigh invincible tanking all of SoD (minus some damage from the poisons) before hitting the Judge. My build isn't good enough for the Judge yet, but I heard Smurf's knight could tank the judge without buffs just fine. This invincibility operates on keeping 50% dmg reduction buff on at all times. This results in everything hitting me only 5dmg, miss, or block. However, without the 50% dmg reduction buff, I get hit anywhere from 300-900. Since SoD is a magic dungeon, I am thinking that the 50% dmg reduction buff is doing something funny when reducing magic damage. Perhaps something like applying the 50% dmg reduction to pdmg and then transferring that same amount of reduction to mdmg? I know the reduction works just fine with pdmg since I have seen the difference in numbers (exactly half) when the buff is applied (via guard, protection, or unique integrity). I have not been able to properly witness the buff's effects on mdmg to some other class when applied via protection unique integrity though.

Might be cause of the way ROSE's mechanics tend to stack additively. Additional damage (and likewise damage reduction) all stack additively into one multiplier.

So looking at the facts here. You're probably wearing a brave set, which gives 40% PVM defense. Add on top of that 50% dmg reduction, and you're at 90%. A luna set to top it off, and you have 100% PVM dmg reduction. As mobs have no PVP offense or additional damage, regardless of how much damage they do (and if it is physical or magical), it will be reduced to 0 (or well, 5).

I still get hit with the occasional 50-57 from the dragons though.

Hmm.. Well it was just a theory of mine, but considering I do know many knights that get that near invincibility just cause of brave+dmg reduction buff, I thought it made sense.

I did think it made sense. I think it has something to do with the magic def getting that 100% resistance while phys doesn't. My knight does slowly die from tanking Judge and his Swords.

Without Guard:

200-400dmg by dragons; block full dmg sometimes

300-850dmg by wisps; block down to 500

1.9-3k dmg by Judge; block down to 1.5k

With Guard:

5-57dmg by dragons

5dmg by wisp

300-600dmg by judge

Reflect:

300-600 on baby dragon

500-900 on big dragon

700-850 with the occasional 1000 on wisp

1.1-1.3k on Judge

600-1.3k wisp damage@50% pvmdef no guard with 7645def 2389mdef

680-1.8k wisp damage@0% pvmdef with guard with 3766def 1649mdef
