Bots and cash shops is a huge detriment to the server and will only encourage users to play private because it's a better value. Most pservers have anti-bot scripts so it's close to impossible to bot.

Advertising has no effect unless these two primary issues are addressed and resolved completely.

Advertise, push, and make use of what keeps the game alive: WoE, no game's GvG system can even compare.

> Battlegrounds can even be turned into mini WoE's if done correctly.

Other games have better graphics, better pvm, easier leveling, harder bosses, etc. but none have such a unique GvG system aka WoE.

WOE: I would not recommend IRO to someone based on this mode unless they were already comfortable with PVM.

)

I do the opposite. These are cute headgears and cute sprites. The game is a retro game and is a full mmorpg. It is great.

But what people don't realize is (classic) has the best game mechanics for pvp out of any game ever made. There is no other game, ever, that can have such large scale and tactical fights like classic woe.

I know our old-ass website is also a problem. It's not reasonable to ask new players to have to seek out most basic information on the game from fansites.

Well if WP could sponsor a community driven Streaming effort, even if it's once again shifting the workload off to someone who doesn't necessarily deserve the stress of maintaining one, it'd be better than nothing.

Sponsoring these with WPE/KP or items is possible. One project that I've wanted to do for a while is more reasonable now, generating codes for streamers to give out to people watching is now something that can be done a lot more easily, so I'd like to get some suggestions on things that streamers would like to give out to people watching. I need to ask again about the possibility of having short time VIP codes for streamers to give out as well.

I can compile links/edits to show where things need to be updated if you wish and PM that to you.

I think giving out short term VIP codes to streamers would be the best. If you give out KP there's the risk of abuse unless it's a smaller amount and restricted to one time per account.

Hats and short term VIP, of course! Maybe a starter pack box type thing that includes some account bound bare necessities to get people going - to hand out to people who want to try the server would help a lot.

unique hats that are nonfunctional but awesome looking wouldn't be a bad idea to hand out through streams, thinking stuff like moonlight flower hat.

How is it that pservers ran mostly by volunteers can program anti-bot scripts but professional programmers can't?  Do they actually work or is it more that pservers have small populations that can be policed easier and their GMs can ban people easier without as much due process?

Advertising on pserver lists would be a bad idea.  I've always thought that a ad campaign for Warpportal in general would be good.  Maybe even tv ads?

getting new players isnt that hard its keeping them playing that is where the problem really lies... several problem with player retention should be looked into as well as gaining new people... while jump events seem like a good idea and may look really active in game, most of those novices you see are just alts from existing players... new players need to invest into the game to make them want to stay... just giving them a bunch of free levels isnt going to make players loyal...

the fact that all information in regards to gameplay needing to come from other sites is a bit of a problem... how are you supposed to know to look things up on iROwiki or divine pride unless somebody specificly tells you where to look? when i first started playing this game the iRO website had information about monsters and weapons and gears on it... it was easy to find and use...

also while some people only focus on the PVP aspects of this game the focus should be on the bigger world... i think the iRO team has done a great disservice by putting TIs on exclusive maps... why have a massive world with dungeons and fields if nobody is going to use them... while the bounty boards are a step in the right direction they need to be expanded to phase out the current gramps TI... being funneled into the same map with teh same monsters over and over again just to gain some exp isnt what alot of people want... while alot of players dont want the long grinds of old they also dont want flat monotony... it just doesnt feel organic... look at how people treat people when it comes to party recruiting...

and again STOP RUSH IMPLEMENTING THINGS... people get really frustrated when new content is added and it doesnt work... move woe or maint to a different day and take your time when updating and really and thoroughly test EVERYTHING... even if you get new players you wont keep them long if the GM team is perceived as incompetent... which brings me to the ticket system... what a mess this is... having to sign in with a different account info just to send a ticket is stupid... and the GMs need to be better at actually handling issues in a timely matter... i shouldnt be asked what character/server ect when its already required to submit a ticket... and the GMs need to actually DO SOMETHING in regards to griefing... stop worrying about losing a few troll players due to banning... youre losing more decent players the more you allow jerks to get away with being jerks...

the last thing i want to bring up isnt something that iRO can do anything about but i want to say it anyway... the game needs a reworking in regards to formulas... the amount of damage players can do is INSANE... especially when that damage becomes the norm... we have single players able to bring down (what was supposed to be) end game bosses with a single shot or 2... where is the fun in that? a battle should be a battle and not just whoever gets the first shot off wins...

Some games limit the amount of damage that a single attack can do against a boss. This prevents them from having to do a complete overhaul on damage formulas, and class balancing, while keeping the fight at least a certain difficulty for all players, regardless of how geared they are.

It's called passion. Passion is stronger then knowledge or money (volunteers vs professionals).

iRO doesn't have access to the game's source code like most pservers do so for the most part they can't write anti-bot programs. Advertising on those websites are fine fRO did it on RMS, and ThailandRO did it on another big development forum but I can't quite remember the name. If you're scared of the core RO pserver websites you can go for  development community such as Ragezone lots of publishers for various games buy direct adspace from them which appears to do them wonders.

Also I would recommend to be very sure you get the message through that you are the real official RO server in your advertisements because otherwise they'll just think it's another random newly opened pserver. I would say this is probably one of the reasons ads for the real RO fail pretty badly.

The Datacenter iRO uses is also a huge problem I should not have 95% of people I invite to iRO that live in North America ask me why it lags so much so this is something really does need to change and quick to get new players to stay.

I honestly don't see why anyone would play iRO even if they did advertise. I would never start playing a game that had a cash shop, especially one as broken as iRO's

Only reason I am still here is because i put so many years into it prior to the cash shop.

the cash shop isnt the problem... its the OP gears that can only be obtained via the cash shop thats the problem... if all the cash shop items were temp buffs or purely cosmetic the cash shop would be awesome...

The kafra shop is fine on classic.

No major, big, or competitive guild will ever start playing iRO half a year+ after the server has opened because god items, mini boss, and mvp cards basically create a huge mountain to climb in order to compete competitively. Although they can also just try to get more numbers then all the other guilds to compensate for lack of items.

which brings me to the ticket system... what a mess this is... having to sign in with a different account info just to send a ticket is stupid... and the GMs need to be better at actually handling issues in a timely matter... i shouldnt be asked what character/server ect when its already required to submit a ticket... and the GMs need to actually DO SOMETHING in regards to griefing... stop worrying about losing a few troll players due to banning... youre losing more decent players the more you allow jerks to get away with being jerks...

The reason behind the separate login for the ticket system is so that whatever happens you can always submit a ticket and contact us. Keep in mind you don't need a support account to submit a ticket. Some game companies require active paid accounts in good standing to access support and to us that seems odd, and you can ONLY submit tickets on those accounts. If it is suspended? Too bad.

I do wish the GM team would read the input details more often and it is something Warnhal tries to address with the GM team.

Speaking of the ticket system, I still have not gotten a response to my ticket 10 days after I submitted it, despite bringing attention to it here on the forums.

I got suspended for absolutely no reason other than some GM didn't like me. That's the only possible explanation. Why else would they suspend me and then refuse to tell me why?

The WP account and Support account are separated in case your WP account gets hacked, allowing you to submit reports even though you can't access your WP account. It's actually better that way compared to not being able to send a report at all and having to make an entirely new WP account and then having to verify you're the actual owner of the hacked account.

Yes, I agree that they should be more firm in regards to players getting away with violating the Terms of Service. If a player gets banned or suspended for breaking a rule, that punishment should be followed through and not retracted just because the player has a gang of backers to whine on the forums for them. What's the point of having rules if you don't enforce them?

Keep in mind you don't need a support account to submit a ticket.

Campitor, you may not need a Support account to submit a ticket, but you definitely need one to reply to the ticket. Either way, it's better to just tell players to make a Support account so they can at least track their tickets in one place and prove they actually submitted it.

One thing I think would help is to have some video walkthroughs for the game.  Something like a video beginners guide to Ragnarok Online.  There's a lot of good information out there, but it's mostly text based, and sadly too many people don't want to take the time to read anymore.  I think a big problem for a lot of new players is that they don't understand how the game works or stats, make a crappy character that can't kill monsters well, get frustrated with the grind, and then quit.  I think it would be really good to have official video beginner guides on the official forums.

I'd like to do it myself, but if someone beats me to it, I think it's important to not get too technical with things and just keep it simple.

Videos take time to watch and most modern players don't want to deal with spending their precious time watching videos. What's direly needed in RO are proper in-game tutorials. Show them all the basics and then let them take the reins. WoW has in-game tutorials, many F2P MMOs have in-game tutorials, heck even RO2 has in-game tutorials!

From what I've seen, RO's in-game tutorials are ridiculously lackluster. If they can be improved upon, more of RO's features (like the party search system) would get much more uses out of them and we won't have to redirect people to fanmade wikis so much.

I can't find it either, but I definitely sent it. I checked all my accounts.

Clearly some sort of conspiracy!

Can someone just tell me why the hell i was suspended over a week ago? It can't possibly be that hard to figure out unless GMs are just free to suspend people willy nilly without making any sort of note of it...
