Welcome all! My name is Gn1ydnu and I will be working to bring multiple PvP events to the Classic Server this year!

As always this will be a community driven event/ROCS system, with much help from WP staff :), to support and promote our server!

Past events

We held a championship of champions towards the end of last year. Due to popular demand we will be bringing that back along with bigger and better prizes!

What is our vision?

We want to have consistent and competitive tournaments that earn "points" for players through out the year. By doing it this way we can create a ranking system that can motivate players into competitive for fun and setting obtainable goals to move forwards through the ranking. Of course there will be a championship at the end of the year.

Thinking of a "LCS" for iRO. "ROCS" Ragnarok Online Championship Series!!!! If you do not know what LCS is, it is a gaming/ranking system used by LoL. They have spring/winter splits and teams earn points over time to fight for bracket standings in the play offs. We will be customizing a unique system that we can apply to iRO and make it work for us.

ROCS complete formatting has yet to be determined. So far we are pretty convinced on no gods/no mvps/no gr,dr,mp/no potions. This will help to reward and promote support players for secretly carrying their team. We are debating over 2v2 or 3v3 formatting.

New rewards!

I have MVP cards to give away for prize rewards, zeny, high end gears, consumables and rumor has it maybe stone sets ect ect.

What would the ideal ROCS look like to Gn1ydnu?

Make an "as even as possible" environment were vets and newer players can come together and have some friendly competition.

I would want bi monthly "best of class" tournaments and/or other variations of 1v1 tournaments.

The opposite bi month have ROCS team tournaments.

So in short, a combination of consistent "team vs team" tournament action (and prizes/practice) along with plenty of other fun events/best of class tournaments.

Points/ranking systems enabled (community made).

Consistent PvP related tournaments to draw players to the server.

Fun :)

Your opinion matters! Fill out this questioner! copy/paste

Posting random run on crap that is irreverent wont even be read. Instead please fill this out as it is the easiest thing to compile information....

No magnifiers pls  :p_idea:

Are you more interested in participating in the events or spectating the events? Both, probably more towards spectating though, depending on who fights.
Would you prefer to play 2v2 or 3v3 matches (with above restrictions)? 3v3 or more. No duplicate classes.
Would you prefer to spectate 2v2 or 3v3 matches (with above restrictions)? 3v3 or more. No duplicate classes.
What type of 1v1 tournaments would you like to play? Same class for prizes, FFA class for funsies, no consumables in all of them.
What type of 1v1 tournaments would you like to spectate? Same class for prizes, FFA class for funsies, no consumables in all of them.
What makes you interested in ROCS? It's something to do.
What is your main concern with ROCS? 3pps, fairness, event times. Gears need to be open the whole time and replays need to be made for each match. No replay = DQ.
Any other suggestions concerning ROCS? Probably later.

It's a large priority of mine to eliminate cheating being abused. By having no consumables (properly implimented) will remove autopot from the equation all together. It will also reward players for proper elemental swaps and make support classes very important. As far as other cheats such as ndly, this will be run by xellie and I and also recorded... I will speak for myself, but I am fully confident in my ability to detect ndly and have no issues personally dq'ing people trying to cheat. Of course video evidence will be sent in reports as well. There will be a strong 0 tolerance stance verses cheating.

Of course ap is harder to detect then ndly or wpe, but proper implementations should block consumables fully removing that issue. We didn't have any issues durring last event and will continue to try and encourage a fun, legit and competitive atmosphere for vets and newer players alike :)

Replay is an unfair requirement as it tends to be quite buggy anyway anmd runs from the viewer's GRF.

Basically the best way to block illegal gear is to just disable it. Which I think Undying and myself can make big puppy eyes at campitor for. Hopefully :p_laugh:

What is your main concern with ROCS?
-Letting noobs left out of it by making the tournaments class fixed (not everyone is playing here for years and have/want to play all different classes) or by making a maximum limit of how many teams can participate (Classic isn't full enough anyways, you'll hardly fill out a 16 team bracket.)

Any other suggestions concerning ROCS?
-Don't forget that if you want to promote the server, the "noobs" have to get their space. I can see that you pretend banning gods and MvPs and this is 1 step in the right direction, I also like the fact that you gonna ban consumables. But I think it should stop there.
Make it simple. Bring your char (trans, pre-trans, expanded, perma novice, whatever), join the tournament, play, have fun, win/lose, tell about it for your friends, wait until next one :)

I also want gr/dr completely gone for "newer player friendliness". Those items, in certain situations, are more powerful then most MVPs and gods. By having this "heavy" item restriction and no potions the goal will be to make it possible to compete with minimal gears required, which would be great for newer players. Vets might be disappointed that thy can't use some really good gear that they have earned, but they should be ok with it and adapt well. Although the equipments will be as even as possible (besides running usrc), vets will still have knowledge of mechanics and years of experience as a slight advantage.

I like your thoughts on keeping it simple. Will just need to make sure enough is done on the hosting end to provide as fair and even matches as possible, but simpler is better especially with 1v1 events. For the actual ROCS year long season, it will be a tad bit more complex to mimic other sports and leagues but nothing too crazy and will still allow others to join and place well even if they join later in the season.

As always, the people investing there time (me xellie and hopefully Oda + camp) will put there best foot forwards and make something highly enjoyable to watch, follow, and participate in. We all care about this and the server, this is driven by passion and can't go wrong (hopefully) if we all do what's best for the server :)

How often are you thinking about doing events? Also how long (hours) do you want events to last?

Will teams be limited to the same <x> players after signing up?

Are teams obligated to show up at every event? Or can they just show up the weeks they want?

Seems my other questions were answered in your last couple of posts.

You may also want to consider a couple of different rulesets further down the line. Give the more experienced/geared players an opportunity to use one or two extra items each and just keep a simple ruleset for the more casual/new/undergeared players. Would probably depend on feedback or player experiences and probably results too.

I'm a little worried about skill differences and the effect that could have on peoples experiences. If you're a new group of players and you're just losing over and over it could be very not fun, even if you're learning a lot. There's obviously going to be some more serious teams and I think that it's important to make sure that everyones enjoying themselves enough to make them want to come back.

This looks like it could be a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing what you prepare.

How often are you thinking about doing events?

Once a month ideally. Alternate between 1v1s and other "fun formates" one month and ROCS the next month ect.

Also how long (hours) do you want events to last?

Ideally would be 2 hours give or take. Don't want to drag it out too long.

Will teams be limited to the same <x> players after signing up?

More details on this later, but thinking if it's only teams of 2-3 then the team "captain" will score points durring ROCS. Because one guild might have a couple teams so captain based would work well.

Are teams obligated to show up at every event?

Not obligated, but to have best chance of winning the grand prize at the end if the year they will benifit a lot from attending as many as possible. Exact formatting hasn't been made yet, still gathering feedback from a bunch of places.

Or can they just show up the weeks they want?

Yes.

About poslag, if it's blatantly done intentionally then there will be punishments. Exact punishments tbd. Pis lag that seems accidental (as it does happen) won't be punished. We will use our best judgement .

At work in the ER on my phone, not the best way to respond but hopefully it helps.

Thought : What about different tiers? We all know who the older more established players are, what about setting something up for the less experienced guys on the side?

I'd like to see a no holds everything goes between older players and something more restricted for newer ones.

I had just made a post saying that wouldn't help and why, but I creditted people enough smarts to know this.

There are certain classes who can pos bug themselves just by existing. Sage, Hunter, merchant classes. Others aren't so easy.

Ok cool thanks.

Definitely like the captain idea for teams/groups who want a more casual approach, I dont think any group I'd play with would be committed enough to guarantee the same dudes from month to month.

Banning Mags wouldnt do anything, any class can bug themselves fairly quickly with first aid if they really want to. But doing that is super obvious so as long as there's a "hey dont do this" it should be fine, there'll always be some misc bugging you cant stop because game is cool, but there's no reason why people cant be good sports about it.
