Oh! I got an idea, why not a quest for a unique Gun, involving a rivalry between Bill Chestwinster and Mr. Garrison!

Not a bad idea!

Also I went to our local Wild West museum (The Gene Autry museum) and got some great photos for inspiration. I'll post em up later.

I thought this was for the anniversary and to have our own themed town since most other countries received one.

With temporal boots, etc. out there I don't think they would be that strong. Maybe for ranger, but afaik they still use the white wing set?

I'm not sure about intent either, but I agree with letting all classes use those items so that RKs, Mechs, Gens, and SCs can benefit from additional % benefits too. Ranges won't swap the immense boost of Ranged damage of the WW set for the smaller bonus from that, unless they're going for a non conventional build -- in which case they should be encouraged to do so.

Perhaps gunslingers could get an extra bonus or get a gun + item combo so that the item works for all, but gives an additional bonus if you also happen to have a gun equipped.

Whatever happens with gunslinger/rebellion, they need a boost from something. They're far too gimped right now. They need a ranged combo boost so badly.

No Wild West town would be complete without it's very own stagecoach! These transported packages and people to the far edges of the frontier.

Really hope kRO delivers on this one. The amount of good material they have received from iRO's end is substantial.

Some concept renders, will be sending this to kRO to complement the proposal

Wow! You've put a lot of work into this proposal. I have a bit of a negative outlook on what kRO is willing to do for us, especially within a reasonable amount of time. I hope it works out.

IMO this is pretty doable since a lot of the assets can be copy-pasted from other areas (Einbroch/Einbech, especially). But then, kRO has stuff that's been busted since forever and won't fix it, so who the hell knows.

Why not a quest to "protect the caravan"?

Not really sure how... but in a map like a large road/hall/passage where there will be a Caravan (a monster or o objet with an X amount of HP) that will be moving from the start of the road a and have to reach the end of it, you will have to protect it from monsters that will spawn and try to destroy the caravan.
You will be only can use single attacks, no skills to kill them.

is it possible to implement time-attack quests?, seeing as how some quests have cooldown timers, is it possible to make a quest like.

-"protect the town from the bandit  raid!"-

the sheriff finds out that the bandits plan to rob the town and escape on the next train, the train leaves town in 10 minutes, and you need to take down at least 30 bandits in 10 minutes ( conditions to be adjusted if necesary) for their plan to be foiled!

if the 10 minute time limit expires, the quest becomes unredeem-able and you need to try again.

would something like that be possible?

time-attack components exist in game so this should be possible. for example, one of the optional academy quests has you kill 4 porings in like 20-30 secs in the thief job change area. if you win, lumin gives you a rainbow carrot. if you fail, you get novice red pots.

Well if this is going to be a USA town, it should encompass basic American folklore, myths, and legends. I know Oda has his heart set on it being centered on the wild west, but there's plenty of neat lore elsewhere in the states:
  • "Davy" Crockett - a 19th-century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician. He is commonly referred to in popular culture by the epithet, "King of the Wild Frontier". He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo.
  • John Henry - an African-American railroad worker who is said to have worked as a "steel-driving man"—a man tasked with hammering a steel drill into rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock away in constructing a railroad tunnel. According to legend, John Henry's prowess as a steel-driver was measured in a race against a steam powered hammer, which he won, only to die in victory with his hammer in his hand and heart giving out from stress.
  • Paul Bunyan - a lumberjack figure in North American folklore and tradition. One of the most famous and popular North American folklore heroes, he is usually described as a giant as well as a lumberjack of unusual skill, and is often accompanied in stories by his animal companion, Babe the Blue Ox.
  • Bigfoot - also known as "Sasquatch," is the name given to an ape-like creature that cryptozoologists believe inhabits forests in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. Bigfoot is usually described as a large, hairy, bipedal humanoid.
  • Champ - the name given to a reputed lake monster living in Lake Champlain, a natural freshwater lake in North America.
  • The Jersey Devil - a legendary creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey in the United States. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many different variations. The most common description is that of a kangaroo-like creature with the face of a horse, the head of a dog, leathery bat-like wings, horns, small arms with clawed hands, cloven hooves and a forked tail. It has been reported to move quickly as to avoid human contact, and often is described as emitting a "blood-curdling scream."
  • Jackalope - is a mythical animal of North American folklore (a so-called "fearsome critter") described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns or deer antlers and sometimes a pheasant's tail (and often hind legs). The word "jackalope" is a portmanteau of "jackrabbit" and "antalope", an archaic spelling of "antelope".
  • Mothman - a mythical half moth half man from Point Pleasant, West Virginia described as a large humanoid with moth features on its face and large wings with fur covering its body. Mothman has been blamed for the collapse of the Silver Bridge.
  • Hodag - a mythical beast that is said to inhabit the forests of Northern Wisconsin, particularly around the city of Rhinelander. The Hodag has a reptilian body with the horns of a bull, and is said to have a penchant for mischief.
  • The Headless Horseman - a fictional character from the short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by American author Washington Irving. The story, from Irving's collection of short stories entitled The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, has worked itself into known American folklore/legend through literature and film.
  • The "Lost Colony" of Roanoke Island - The disappearance of the Roanoke colonists, among the first English settlers to land on America, have been the subject of a mystery that still challenges historians and archaeologists as one of America's oldest.

oh sketchup, although one of the easiest 3d program you can use, its still a pain. As a fellow architecture school graduate, im glad that youre still using sketchup till this day  :no1:

so when can we see the exterior and interior render of that 3d model? maybe kRO will give it a thumbs up if you can provide them with some beautiful render from that model  :P

Oda you can have a quest for wanted posters for assassin class characters to to kill monsters or something or make a poison. Also can we add more maps and a bigger dungeon for this?

The culture towns typically consist of a town map, a field map, and a dungeon (2-3 maps big). Don't think the USA culture town is going to get treated any better than the other culture towns.

DESCRIPTION:

If this were the Old West, then there should be the possibility for players to end up on [Wanted Posters].  Rather than have players indiscriminately kill everything out there, some NPCs would exist out in the desert or dungeon.  If they were killed, the player's generic character class icon and name would appear on a wanted listing.   Being Wanted is not the same as a conviction, it just means the Sheriff wants to detain the player in the town jail for questioning for an inconvenient amount of time.  Of course, players can show up to bail the player out, but if the player runs off once out of jail, the bail money is lost.   After the NPCs are killed, they need 10 minutes to respawn.

IMPLEMENTATION:

[Wanted Poster Board] is a clickable location at the Sheriff's Office.  Clicking it displays a list of the 100 current wanted player names and a reward if the player is convicted.  New names cause older names to increase by one position, thus someone at position #29 would be pushed down to #30 if a new name appeared on the list.  Once a name falls off the list, the player is set free.  This simulates the max detainment time of a real jail (prior to President Bush's changes) where they let you out if they cannot get to you in time.  Let's not have our modern jails where they can hold you for six months with that trick of dropping and renewing a detainment order.  The amount of reward starts at 10K zeny (positions 1 to 9) and decreases by 1K every 10 positions.  Thus a name at position 30 would give 8,000 zeny reward.

[Olde West Handcuffs] are issued by the Sheriff to registered Bounty Hunters who must be of the Gunslinger job class.  It costs 10,000 zeny to register and a Bounty Hunter badge is issued (similar to Eden member badge).  This badge is checked by the Handcuffs to make sure that only registered bounty hunters can activate the handcuff.   The handcuff is a modified taming item that can target a player.  Once activated, it has 1/3 the amount of time needed to "tame" the player.  If successful, the player is transported to the town jail which is a smaller one-cell version of the current massive jail.  The sheriff only issues one handcuff per player per day.  A player can collect at most one bounty per 8 hours.

[Killable NPC Citizens] are actually monsters with NPC sprites.  Killing one of these NPC causes an invisible zero weight item to be placed into the player's inventory. This item then serves as the flag marking that player as fair game to be detained by the [Olde West Handcuffs].   After the event is over, the next maintenance would check player inventory for such expired invisible items and remove them automatically.   It is possible for players to have more than one invisible item because they can kill multiple innocent people.  Pretty heinous!

DETENTION:

If a player char is detained, it would unfair to keep them there too long.  Any other respectable player of good community stature (level 70 or higher) can bail them out for a refundable Bail Bond of 1,279,999 zeny for each invisible marker the prisoner has in inventory.  Once bailed out, a different special item is placed into inventory signifying that player was bailed out once.  If the player ever re-enters jail again, then that item will cause previous bails to be forfeited.  As long as that character doesn't commit any more crimes during the event, the amount will be refunded at the end of the event.  Please don't break probation.  Nick Fury has his eye on you.   The detained player can also offer his own Bail Bond but this is possible only after a minimum of 30 minutes wait time after detention has started.  This simulates the inconvenience factor to let the guilty person reflect on his actions on the Olde West's citizens.   A player char can bail out someone once.  Once they post bail, either a flag or invisible marker item will be put into that player's inventory.

Any player showing up to bail out a detained player does NOT have to post bond if they have a GM costume or GM mercenary.  The Sheriff recognizes that as sufficient authority to set the detained player free.

Now, what to do with repeat offenders who have violated bail and have been arrested again?   They will be kicked out of town!   Thus they are basically disqualified from the event.  It would be unfair to keep them in jail since they could still play their chars elsewhere.

*update*

Forgot to mention that [Olde West Handcuffs] don't disappear unless they successfully detain someone.  That allows the bounty hunter player to not lose them if the suspect runs away after the attempt was started.

As for one of the wandering killable NPC, I'd like to nominate one of your previous event NPCs that was known to travel around.  Mia the Littlest Isis moved out of the pyramids in order to see the world.  Her last known stop was in Comodo where she had a a house on top of that wooden deck east of the barbeque pits.  But she seems to have wandered off as I don't see her in that house.  PERHAPS she has wandered into this old west town!   I'd really like to see her around again and in many respects, a snakelike Isis wouldn't be too out of place as she was from the desert pyramid area.   The original event for "The Littlest Isis" had a brief writeup at:   http://irowiki.org/w...e_Littlest_Isis    The irowiki article doesn't preserve any of the story or feeling that the in-game descriptions had.

HQ is interested in the quest/map and have said that if we can get them expanded quests/design proposals for the map it may even be possible to get the map made before next year. So we're understandably excited, and trying to put in time among the other things we have to do to get NPCs, quests, and concept art made to send to them.

The drawing is mine, though I am extremely unskilled at drawing people, my training in architecture does come in useful once in a blue moon!

Zero, the fishing boat won't be walkable, but since we wanted the US town to be similar to the other Global Project towns (take a boat from alberta) I was inspired by this piece of Tokyo Disney Sea art:
