Howdy folks! Oda here with a request: what kind of quests would y'all like to see in a Old West themed anniversary quest? I'm doin' my darndest to put together a proposal including a possible new map (remember that idea?) before the 20th so we can try to have the devs make it for us. The following is the initial stuff that I'm going to be requesting but for the quest side of things I want to hear what things you would like to see happen.

I know it's not very interesting to have "go here, talk to this guy, kill 50 monsters, have reward" kind of quests so I wanted your input! You guys know what kind of minigames are possible to be put into the game, if your suggestion winds up in the quest I'll name a NPC in the town (if we can get a custom town map) after ya! Just something I'm gonna be working on over this next week.

I would LOVE to have mini-quests that only characters of a certain class can complete with goals that fit with that classes theme! We have so few quests outside of job changes that treat characters differently from each other.

THE PROPOSAL

The quest takes place in a small town on the edge of the known world. People from many parts of Rune Midgard have come to the small town of <Rock Ridge> by train to seek their fortunes. There is a thriving Peco ranch and Root Beer brewing business in the town, but this has drawn the attention of bandits. As the bravest adventurers in Rune Midgard, you are tasked with helping the Sheriff protect the town from certain doom!

Town features:
Goff’s Saloon, Casino and Brewery-Place for tired travelers to rest and enjoy a show

Boot Hill-Graveyard -

Mission style church-

Sheriff’s office-

Peco Ranch-

Trading Post-General Store for buying supplies

Shooting Gallery

Characters:

Peco’s Bill-The Mayor of the town and owner of the Peco Ranch. A retired gunfighter, he can teach what he learned to adventurers willing to learn

Bart Ender- The bartender of the Saloon and owner of the brewery. Also runs the casino.

Bill Chestwinster-Gunsmith for the town, he can construct a special gun if you bring him the right supplies.

Lucky Pierre- He traps wild animals to trade back home in Aldebaran and will pay good money for animal skins.

Sheriff Durango-This tough lady is the defender of the town and will do whatever is necessary to protect the townsfolk.

‘Doc’ Rigor Mortis-not actually a doctor, this is the closest thing the people have to one.

Sister Zera- A nun who traveled from Prontera to offer spiritual guidance for the town.

Gum Saan-A businessman from Louyang who runs the trading post and only decent restaurant.

Monsters:

Bandit Gunslinger: basically the player gunslinger model with a cowboy hat on

Coyote-same sprite as a wolf

Rattlesnake-same sprite as anacondaq

Vulture-same sprite as Condor

Ghostslinger-ghostly cowboy monster

Tumbleweed poring

Thunderbird (MVP)

Items:
Chestwinster’s Repeater- Rifle type weapon
Sheriff’s Badge[1]-stat boosting Accessory
Lawman’s Hat[1]-Hat
Outlaw’s Boots[1]-Dropped by Bandit Gunslinger
Bart’s Root Beer-Restorative item

Quests:

Main Quest: A Fistful of Zeny

Repeatable Quest: For a Few Zeny More

Rootin’ tootin’- Bart Ender needs your help in finding some rare ingredients to make his famous (non-alcoholic Root Beer). Once players complete the quest they can return to him with these items to make more.

Happiness is a new gun-The inventor and gunsmith Chestwinster wants to help defend the town and will be crafting rifles for the town’s defenders. By bringing him various metals he will reward the player with the Chestwinster Repeater

Two jewels for Sister Zera- Sister Zera is decorating the church for when the bishop visits from Prontera. You have to find the missing caravan that got lost.

A little inspiration:

I think there should be an epic gun fight/shootout that functions in a similar fashion to the rock/paper/scissors npc from the 4th seal God item creation.

It's late, but I really like this theme; it has so much potential.

Sheriff Badges already exist. They are Battlegrounds accessories. You'll have to come up with a new name for those ;p

Also would you consider being kind to/catering to the needs of Mastersmiths with this "American themed" town as well? They were the Wild West class before Slingers were even a twinkle in some gorked developer's eye. Halter, denim shorts, lone star buckle, etc~

Sure! Throw out some ideas, there can definitely be a town blacksmith in need of help!

Not enough Frontierland references. I'm disappointed, Oda. I was expecting the MVP to be a possessed mega train.

How about a silent, but deadly version of the Muka as a field monster? (Malicious Muka or something to that effect?) Desert Wolves and their pups would be fine, no need to make a separate coyote monster. Condors instead of a separate vulture monster, too, would work. Driller is another appropriate existing monster to add.

Wild Horses would be a neat map-exclusive monster since none exist aside from the dead ones. Desert Tarou is another one that can be made.

This would also be a good opportunity to reintroduce the Purple Cowboy Hat for those who didn't get it the last time it was available. And how about having 2 towns instead of one and introduce a faction system for reputation? Or base it more on the Civil War Era of the USA. Could come up with some sort of PVP system with either scenario.

what sprite is thunderbird?
introducing monster with holden sprite is also good since it is a mole with a gun.
monsters with mercenary sprites will be good also like fencer and bowman, they can be named as bandits, they team up together with gunslinger bandit.

Kill two birds with one update:
Request the addition of Gun (elemental/very strong) type weapons to be forged by Mastersmiths/Blacksmiths.
Blacksmiths in general are very Wild West, and so are Guns & Gunslingers/Rebellion. The forgers haven't had any type of update in forever, and I'm sure they would LOVE this. It would also make more players try out the Gunslinger class.

The higher attack and the effectts on these would be justified by the lack of carding slots in these weapons.
  • Dual Duel Pistols
Level 3, Effect 'AGI raises both HIT and ASPD, Refine level increases this effect' (copy of Wasteland's Outlaw), Attack: 120, Weight 65.
  • Wrecking Rifle
Level 3, Effect 'HIT +20, CRIT +20, Refine level increases CRIT +5 per level', Attack: 210, Weight 105.
  • Sawn-off Shotgun
Level 3, Effect 'Splash Damage, DEX +1, Lv. 10 Spread Shot by chance, Refine level increases DEX +1 per level' (similar chance of Spread Shot as Gatekeeper DD), Attack: 250, Weight 135.
  • Steaming Gatling Gun
Level 3, Effect 'Increases damage to all races by 30%, +30 ATK, Refine level increases ATK +5 per level', Attack: 130, Weight 255.
  • Nuclear Grenade Launcher
Level 3, Effect 'Chance to break armor and weapon at close range, Refine level increases success rate' (similar to Inferno), Attack: 320, Weight 130.
Edit: removed misplaced chars

The original US Themed map thread proposed a Zapdos-like giant lightning bird.

The Saloon is named after Harper Goff, the man who designed the Golden Horseshoe and more in the original park.

For this quest, since we are requesting it for June, we're keeping the new art asset request part of it relatively restrained since we really don't want them to say "no we won't do it, we need 12 months" or whatever. I think a smaller town about the size of Izlude would be a manageable task. And, if we do get kRO to design this map for us we can later add additional stuff onto it for later requests.

Since the USA culture town was already planned, surely kRO has some design laid out that they can reuse for it.

Doubt it...I don't think kRO's done much thought about that since we would have heard of it. Apparently for something on the scale of Port Malaya it would take multiple years to request.

You can't have a wild west themed event without including the iconic wild west town of Deadwood! At the very least include some people from there like Wild Bill and Calamity Jane.

I would LOVE to have mini-quests that only characters of a certain class can complete with goals that fit with that classes theme! We have so few quests outside of job changes that treat characters differently from each other.

Just throwing around some random ideas that came into mind when I read that:

Blacksmith Class - Help the local 'smith make horse shoes for the sheriff's horses.

  • Having an anvil and other forging items like hammers could be a prerequisite. It /could/ work out in the same fashion as the last fishing quest (dialogue-based) or better if a special "horseshoe forging" skill could be implemented for this.

Hunter Class (#1) - Shoot down the bandits' messenger birds (Vultures?) to intercept their communication.

  • Warp hunter class characters into a map with lots of cliffs so they can go cliff-snipe birds.

Hunter Class (#2) - Help Lucky Pierre "catch" monsters for rewards.

  • What I had in mind would be goals like: "Anklesnare x amount of x monster" or use some kind of tame to get monsters that end up as either etc. items (so its just a quest item) or as brand new custom pets.
  • Actually "killing" the monster would not count.

Bard/Dancer Class - Play an awesome background track to the shootout happening on the streets (LOL)

  • Could be NPC dialogue-based like the last fishing quest where you have to make a choice out of three options. The better you play, the more likely the good guy will win. :heh: :heh: :heh: :heh: :heh:

Some gambling should definitely be in it. Say you have Stolen Gold Coins which can be dropped by chance by the bandit enemies, and with them, you can bet on events (shoot out, dice roll, cup-with-ball game). It'd all be random chance stuff where if you win, you get rewarded some minor XP (tens of thousands perhaps 1k per base level and and 1k per job level for base/job respectively) and some root beer or other consumables? Like 'Bullet Riddled Coin' which temporarily grants you lucky dodge, or 'dog eared cigarette' which temporarily grants you resistance to damage by a small percent, and perhaps 'last match' which temporarily grants crit rate and crit damage.

Perhaps a time-limit game where every x hours you go on a peco hunt and whoever kills n pecos wins?

Or maybe have random challenges in the town where you just have a % chance to get challenged by a bandit/gunslinger and then you fight through a dialog game (great if it's based on your stats) and if you win, you get some minor perks. Just... stuff to do, I suppose?

basically, I imagine it should be gunslinger stuff that's pretty western themed in the whole "shoot out" style, and not really terribly useful for other classes. Still somewhat useful... but not a lot.

Ideas for equipment below:

Well Worn Poncho

Garment, unslotted, gives 10 def and 5 mdef, description "A heavily weathered poncho. It looks like it's been through quite a few events, and would have many stories to tell."  Gives +1% ranged damage with any gun class weapon per refine, and +1% aspd (reduce attack delay by 1%) per 2 refine. Can be enchanted with effects that give % chance to autocast Disarm (level 1 or highest level learned) when attacking, Give a Perfect Dodge boost (1 per refine), or chance to get Coin on enemy kill.

Set bonus with various hats (sombrero, romantic gent, cowboy hat, straw hat, etc.) +1% damage boost with gun class weapons for every refine on the hat.

Bandit's Custom

Revolver, 1 slot, level 3, 60 atk, description "A custom revolver made from parts of other revolvers. It has a very satisfying click when you turn the chamber." Gives +1 hit and +1 crit per refine, if refined up to +7 gives +5% ranged damage, and if refined up to +9 gives flat +1 aspd.

Crooked Fool

Rifle, 1 slot, level 4, 77 atk, description "The barrel on this gun seems bent, and yet it somehow still works. Legend has it that it was used by a very lucky outlaw who would get into trouble all the time, but get out unscathed." Gives +1atk per point of luck, if user has 99 luck then grants +10% crit damage and has a low (3%) chance to autocast level 1 heal on the user, heal increases per 3 refine of gun (level 2 heal at +6, level 3 heal at +9, etc.)

Snake Head Boots

Footwear, 1 slot, 10-20 def, description "Shiny snakeskin boots with the snakes' heads on the toes. The snakes' teeth still look very sharp and poisonous." Gives 30% resistance to poison status and gives 1% chance to poison any short-ranged attacker per refine level. If equipped with a poison elemental armor, increases the chance to poison enemies to 3% per refine level.

Level 3, Effect 'HIT +20, CRIT +20, Refine level increases CRIT +5 per level', Attack: 210, Weight 105.
  • Sawn-off Shotgun
Level 3, Effect 'Splash Damage, DEX +1, Lv. 10 Spread Shot by chance, Refine level increases DEX +1 per level' (similar chance of Spread Shot as Gatekeeper DD), Attack: 250, Weight 135.
  • Steaming Gatling Gun

No love for Desperado? D:

That's what the high ATK on the pistol is good for. As their upgrade level converts AGI to HIT and ASPD it should be suitable just fine for a (potentially less cookie-cutter) Desperado build. It's depending on the conversion rate of AGI to HIT/ASPD mainly weither or not it would be suitable for the Desperados.
