Welcome to the Ralis Conundrum!

Every Wednesday, at some varying point of the day, I'll be posting some sort of weekly challenge for you to figure out. Each week brings a new puzzle: it may be a math problem, a riddle or something else entirely. Whatever it may be, you'll have to use a little (or a lot of) brain power to figure it out. These puzzles may require knowledge outside of Ragnarok! Anyone is capable of finding the answer, but I cannot guarantee you will always know what to do if you have little to no understanding of Ragnarok, computers, math, science, etc.

The competition is open to both servers! Chaos Renewal and Classic Loki players may both enter their answers. It may help you to know, then, that the answer to each challenge will be something that can be found by players of both servers.

Correct answers may win a prize at the end of the week. However, only a certain number of prizes can be given out and all correct answers are entered into the prize pool. Please do not try and use multiple accounts to get better odds! We check account connections. If you're caught doing this, you will be automatically disqualified from present and future competitions... Including OTHER events on the forums as well.

Correct answers that are not chosen for the weekly prize will gain points depending on how many people get the correct answer! When you've saved up 20 points (points will be kept track in the 3rd post of each thread), you can PM me any time during the week to trade your points in for the current week's prize. You may only trade in points once a week for a single prize, so keep that in mind if you're trying to save up for a "better" prize. Winners of the weekly prize may PM me by the end of the week to opt out of the weekly prize, instead receiving the amount of points awarded as a participation prize for that week, up to a maximum of 20.

Please keep in mind that the theme for each week is not always a factor in figuring out the puzzle. This does not mean that it will never have an impact, but rather that you should not assume that you must travel to a location or that the answer must fit the theme given in that week's conundrum.

Prizes are always subject to change based on Oda's discretion.

Please do not post or PM your answers. Use the link below the challenge to submit answers!

You may freely adjust your entry until each week's deadline.

I don't consider search engines cheating. You will never find the answer directly, but always use your resources!

Please be cautious when asking questions about the puzzle of the week on the forums as they could end up being hints for others. You are always welcome to PM me with any questions you may have.

Unfortunately, coming up with new conundrums is sometimes challenging. That, or I just completely forget about them due to other commitments or a busy workload for the week.

If the pattern of which weeks Conundrums have and haven't been posted continues, what date will the Week 100 Conundrum be posted on?

Answer in the form of a date. For example, today's Conundrum was posted on "2/25/15".

The competition ends Tuesday, March 3rd at 11:59 PM PST! Good luck!

What do the five items have in common? Answer with one word.

The answer is ear.

The answer is in the name of the items:

PEARL

SPECTRAL SPEAR

BURNING HEART

EARTHPROOF POTION

RESEARCH CHART

There were 34 correct answers this week, and the five winners are:

Raspuchin, darkabe, shirotea, Kelly and 2093130910140952117 (aka Lakrits)!

Congratulations!

Everyone else that answered correctly but did not get selected for the weekly prize have earned 3 points this week!

Your prize will (eventually) be mailed to or in the inventory of the character you listed on the answer page. If you would like to opt to not receive this week's prize and instead receive points equal to the participation prize, please PM me before the end of the week.

Please note: the two-week guarantee thing wasn't working too well as Oda has a lot of other responsibilities that come before getting prizes out. I will try to post in the current week's thread what prizes have been given out, but please be aware that you will get your prizes eventually, it just might take a few weeks. If I've posted that prizes for the week you won have been given out and you don't have yours, then THAT would be the time to PM Oda or I. Sorry about the inconvenience!

This is probably too big of a hint to ask for, but is the pattern based on sequence so far or calendar year? The former doesn't take into account real world events like Christmas, only relative dates, while the latter assumes that seasonal trends hold true from year to year (like not having a new conundrum posted during the week of Christmas).

Sequence so far. This one is more about the math.

Now that the submission period is over, anyone want to compare answers? Here's how I calculated it:

First conundrum posted on 8/20/2014 (a Wednesday).

25th conundrum posted on 2/25/2014 (a Wednesday), or 189 days after the first.

Sequence repeats with the first conundrum, so I put the 26th conundrum as getting posted on Wednesday, March 4 (7 days later).

+189 days for 50th conundrum: 9/9/2015

Repeat. +7 for 51st (9/16/2015) and +189 for 75th (3/23/2016)

Repeat. +7 for 76th (3/30/2016) and +189 for 100th (10/5/2016).

that's what I arrived at as well, but curious if we're allowed to assume that the 26th conundrum is posted 7 days after the 25th, since it does not have a previous reference (there was nothing posted before week one for example).

Did you consider that 2016 will have one extra day? :P

Also, I think my submission was somewhere around 2016' summer. I just used the calendar on my cell phone, and counted weeks instead of days.

... I just put the date of the first conundrum into an excel sheet.  The cell after that I put =A1+7, then I copied that formula down to row 102 (there was no conundrum on christmas or new years, but one on every other week, so 102 weeks after the first one would be the 100th conundrum.  He said this was more about the math, rather than the pattern, so I figured he wouldn't be missing Christmas/New Years week next time around.

Ended up with July 27, 2016.

Yep, Excel knows that 2016 is a leap year, so we don't need to manually account for the 29th day in February.

If you don't assume that, then there could be an infinite number of weeks between 25 and 26.

well i was more thinking about having the difference between week 1 and week 2 being the difference between week 25 and week 26, as opposed to just assuming a 7 day period had elapsed between week 25 and 26, and then applying week 1 week 2 difference to week 26 week 27 difference. in this case it's the same since the day difference between week 1 and 2 was indeed 7 but you end up shifting the schedule up 1.

Shift or not, you get the same answer either way, and I don't think there were any other plausible interpretations.

I'm probably second guessing too much but rather than look at 189 day difference, I was examining the amount of days from week to week. from week 1 to week 2, it was 7 days, from week 2 to week 3 it was 6, and from week 3 to week 4 it was 5. Hence I thought that the assumption for week 25 to week 26 could result in different answers.

I didn't go into that level of detail in my answer though; this is just me looking back and playing devil's advocate. I got the same thing as Morse.
