Welcome to the Ralis Conundrum!

Every Wednesday, at some varying point of the day, I'll be posting some sort of weekly challenge for you to figure out. Each week brings a new puzzle: it may be a math problem, a riddle or something else entirely. Whatever it may be, you'll have to use a little (or a lot of) brain power to figure it out. These puzzles may require knowledge outside of Ragnarok! Anyone is capable of finding the answer, but I cannot guarantee you will always know what to do if you have little to no understanding of Ragnarok, computers, math, science, etc.

The competition is open to both servers! Chaos Renewal and Classic Loki players may both enter their answers. It may help you to know, then, that the answer to each challenge will be something that can be found by players of both servers.

Correct answers will gain points depending on how many people get the correct answer! When you've saved up 20 points (points will be kept track in the 3rd post of each thread), you can PM me any time during the week to trade your points in for the current week's prize. You may only trade in points once a week for a single prize, so keep that in mind if you're trying to save up for a "better" prize.

Please keep in mind that the theme for each week is not always a factor in figuring out the puzzle. This does not mean that it will never have an impact, but rather that you should not assume that you must travel to a location or that the answer must fit the theme given in that week's conundrum.

Prizes are always subject to change based on Oda's discretion.

Please do not post or PM your answers. Use the link below the challenge to submit answers!

You may freely adjust your entry until each week's deadline.

I don't consider search engines cheating. You will never find the answer directly, but always use your resources!

Please be cautious when asking questions about the puzzle of the week on the forums as they could end up being hints for others. You are always welcome to PM me with any clarifying questions you may have.

Week 30: Starving Sageworms [ 4/8 - 4/14 ]

SageWorm_zpsiemyax1q.png

Last week we learned about Sageworms and their taste for Ridewords. While searching for that gigantic Rideword, you happen to come across a stack of the five smallest types of Ridewords (one of each), their covers all facing up and their bindings all facing the same direction. There's a Sageworm-sized hole going down the middle of the stack (from the front cover of the top Rideword right down through the last page of the bottom Rideword). The front and back covers of the Ridewords are 3 millimeters thick and each page is 0.1 millimeters thick.

How deep, in millimeters, is the hole? Round to the nearest whole millimeter.

The competition ends Tuesday, April 14th at 11:59 PM PST! Good luck!

Week 29: The Biggest Book [ 4/1 - 4/7 ]

SageWorm_zpsiemyax1q.png

It's a widely known fact that Sageworms love books. Or, rather, they love eating books. Ridewords, in fact, are considered a delicacy with their excessive page lengths. While exploring Glast Heim, however, you come across a frustrated Sageworm. He's not satisfied with eating small Ridewords and claims he's seen a GIANT Rideword flying around the castle. He wants you to find out how many pages it has, and is even willing to reward you for doing so!

Ridewords always seem to share particular page lengths (meaning that there are only a limited number of different sizes of Ridewords), and the smallest Rideword he's ever eaten was 1006 pages. The largest, he says, was 4185 pages. The middle size (out of the seven sizes he's eaten) was 1554 pages. But he's convinced that this new gargantuan Rideword has even more pages than the biggest one he's eaten!

How many pages does the giant Rideword have?

Last week's prize:

SmokieIdea_zps9afed806.pngThe SolutionSmokieConfused_zps942a489a.png

The answer is 7015.

The varying page lengths of Ridewords corresponds to their dropped items' IDs. Bookclip of Memory has the highest item ID: 7015.

There were 20 correct answers, so everyone that answered correctly earns 5 points this week!

Will Thor characters have any chance to join this event? Or can Thor characters be joined to earn points while waiting for the server to open?

I will have to talk to Oda about it... Some of these prizes on a new server might be a little unbalancing.

tips to avoid confusion: always have a leading 0 for decimals and never have a trailing decimal for whole numbers

for example, do not do this

.1

1.

do this:

0.1

1

Don't judge a book by it's cover. :D

About the last week's puzzle, it was easily understood that those numbers aren't numbers actually, but item/monster id.
The average was misleading as it led me to Echio, but it helped me in a way to confirm that the gigantic book belonged to Rideword's drop table. I was looking at Antique Books and Deathwords before finding the giant book. :D And later when you updated the puzzle with the middle size book, I think you made it easier for everyone.

Hopefully soon. I'm getting Oda the full list of everyone that's claimed prizes since the change to remove weekly prizes today.

I won the prize on #22. But, I haven't received the prize yet. :(

It's been two month already...

Do we need to wait that long?

Hints! Hints everywhere! Please PM me with questions!

Each separate cover is 3mm.

.49 and under, round down. .5 and up, round up.

There's no typo in the blurb for the puzzle... What is written is meant to be there!

Various people: Did you really mean to include crucial information as a deceptively-worded parenthetical statement, or is it just your usual sloppiness?

Deceptively worded... as I've done several times for puzzles?

As for "sloppiness", yes I make mistakes occasionally... Mostly minor dealing with a number or letter, not entire phrases.

It's been in the opening blurb for months to please PM me with questions so I can either answer the question and make it publicly known or to just say sorry can't answer that.

I already don't play the game these days and I don't come back to the forums to get this type of crap for something I do for other people to have fun.

(I'm (mostly) not in the mood to put up with this type of snark todayy)

PS: I have an evening class tonight so the new puzzle won't be posted until late tonight.

No snark intended.

Yes, I'm aware of that blurb. It's been around since week 4, but you've never enforced it, so everyone's always regarded it as purely advisory and felt free to post questions as long as they felt they weren't giving away hints. That wasn't really possible this week, though: I've been checking most of your puzzles since week 3, and this is the first time I can recall that you've written something, hoped no one would read it, and deleted all posts asking for clarification. (Before, you would have said "can't answer that.") I never imagined you'd do something like that. Since several others asked the same question, obviously I wasn't alone. If you're planning to do this sort of thing again, maybe you should keep the topic locked so you don't end up doing damage control.
