The Ralis Conundrum

Welcome to the Ralis Conundrum!

Every Wednesday, at some varying point of the day, I'll be posting some sort of weekly challenge for you to figure out. Each week brings a new puzzle: it may be a math problem, a riddle or something else entirely. Whatever it may be, you'll have to use a little (or a lot of) brain power to figure it out. These puzzles may require knowledge outside of Ragnarok! Anyone is capable of finding the answer, but I cannot guarantee you will always know what to do if you have little to no understanding of Ragnarok, computers, math, science, etc.

The competition is open to both servers! Chaos Renewal and Classic Loki players may both enter their answers. It may help you to know, then, that the answer to each challenge will be something that can be found by players of both servers.

Correct answers will gain points depending on how many people get the correct answer! When you've saved up 20 points (points will be kept track in the 3rd post of each thread), you can PM me any time during the week to trade your points in for the current week's prize. You may only trade in points once a week for a single prize, so keep that in mind if you're trying to save up for a "better" prize.

Please keep in mind that the theme for each week is not always a factor in figuring out the puzzle. This does not mean that it will never have an impact, but rather that you should not assume that you must travel to a location or that the answer must fit the theme given in that week's conundrum.

Prizes are always subject to change based on Oda's discretion.

I don't consider search engines cheating. You will never find the answer directly, but always use your resources!

How many pieces are in the puzzle pictured above? Make sure to only count pieces from the image that's been cut up; don't count anything from the background!

Hint: Use the image from the Survey page, the forums here like to shrink images from their original size.

Week 31: Tile Trouble Two [ 4/15 - 4/21 ]

That little bar in southwest Prontera is back with another tile puzzle for you to solve!

"Business is booming," the owner tells you, "So I've ordered another set of tiles to put around the tables! This one asks a question, and I just need the answer for some fabulous prizes!"

The tiles, he says, should be arranged in one single row so that there are two lines of words. Hint: there will be no space between the first and second line of words.

Ok, at least that small amount of stuff I managed to get was correct. Though it didn't help me enough to solve puzzle.

Upd: I just realized that I read one of rules in a wrong way, "there will be no space between the first and second line of words." -> "the word on the first line is cut and continues on the second line"

I only manage to ensemble the last six tiles correct, "...at the... Juno.", too bad those aren't enough for me to figure out the whole puzzle, sobs

Answered. Just hope it's right.

I wish I could have been able to magnify it. I even tried saving it but nothing on my comp can open the image.

No new puzzle this week due to the forums being down.

Answer was 70, but no one got it right. Considering taking anything from 65-75 which would give us a few winners.

So, sending an answer through PM 5 min later of deadline still didn't count

Sorry, I've denied other people's answers for being a few minutes late in the past so it wouldn't be fair to accept yours.

you have nothing on your pc that can open a .png file?

Well, apprantly, I do, or I wouldn't be able to see the picture in my browser, correct? But when I saved the picture to my hard drive and tried opening it with a "picture viewer" or some other programs I use, they all say "format not supported or file is corrupt".

Eh, not so much a user error as a Firefox being a POS error. Firefox was saving it as a .bmp file. In the Save As dialogue, it didn't give me the option to save as a .png. It just has the "All Files" option. I went back and tried with crappy IE. Worked fine.

By the way, thanks for the vague insult.

Well, I had the same problem though. And it WAS saved as .png. "Format not supported" even though I usually don't have trouble with .png

Thanks for the explanation Ren. Maybe now I'll be able to cope with that in the future

what image viewer do you use normally? I'm graphically challenged but basic ms paint has been more than sufficient for my random forays into the world of pictures. it should support png, bmp, jpg, and most other common formats.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I was using everything I could to open it that I have: ms paint, Windows photo viewer, etc.. The problem wasn't the viewers. As Ren was basically saying, it was firefox saving a .png file as a .bmp (since it never gave the .png option in the Save As dialogue box). Since it was saved as a .bmp file, everything was trying to open it as a .bmp, not a .png which is what it really was.

I'll be looking into downloading Chrome whenever I can be bothered...

Hey all, just an update that I'm not dead, but incredibly busy (and falling behind) in school.

It turns out doing your senior capstone + 22 400-level credits in your last term isn't a very good idea. x_o

I'll try to get a new puzzle up next week.
