the unidentified items we got from mobs are supposed to be mystery and a surprise until we appraise them. But i dont know why some items treated like this.

first case:

sprite is generic unidentified accessory, but it has the name Sound Amplifier on it.

second case:

name is dagger, a generic unidentified dagger class weapon, but it has sprite of Desert Twilight.

why....the developer ruins the fun of guessing an item...

well, sometimes i like to give my friends piece of unidentified item to surprise them. Guessing what is that like guessing what will you get from a box. But...this kind of 'spoiler' thing ruins the fun.

other case:

rafini staff

kalga mace

shield of naga

elven bow

and the list keeps getting bigger

It's all in the data grf.

There are many things that require fixing in that file, but it won't happen.

QUESTION: Why is this data wrong and why do the devs never fix it even though it'd take at most 20 minutes?

Not a secret at all. The files are large and in charge and are working. To fix it would be to apply countless days into something that works. It is why it will never be done.

Disagree

[citation needed] that you can't just search the item ID and change the value for that line.

"days" to edit a line in a file?

What are they using, punch cards instead of modern computers?

I am referring to multiple files. There are a few involved, and there are more errors in them than you would guess.

I would put money on the fact that all other issues in iRO would be solved before they ever contemplate fixing the file/s and applying some standards to them.

P.S. not just referring to the Sound Amplifier.

it would take about an hour to decompile and recompile the data.grf ontop of like 5 minutes to make the necessary changes.  The issue is that i don't think the GM team actually knows how to modify such things nor do they have the motivation to do so.  Its not really a game-breaking issue, and the immersion breaking factor is very minimal at best.  Chances are if you're hunting those things, you already know whats going to drop.

TL:DR iRO development team doing what they do best

Appraisal has been redundant for a long time, so I would agree with this ^

It's not the hardware that's the problem. It's 13 year old software that hasn't been brought up to par for the latest technology.

Making a standard for the description of items in RO1 is something, we have wanted to do for a few years now. The problem has always been finding the man hours to do it and go through all.. 7000(I think?) items. There may be a bit more than that in the game.

isn't there a way to search for patterns/keywords through the database?

As archaic as the decade old software may be, there must be some pattern to the system marks the name for the unidentified version for each object right?

There are over 11,000 now, and the files also contain double ups due to people having added duplicate lines in order to change a description ^

Sigh, this is what you get when you only apply a temporary patch-up, instead of actually fixing the problem.

You could write something up, but it takes time and would still require people to check items by eye to make sure everything is okay, That would be where most of the time comes from.

And that assumes that they add to this file themselves and not recieve an entire new file from kRO haha.
