Its good that something is being done to fix the lag. i did notice a little improvement though. Maybe one day we will be virtually lag free :)

Putting the lag issue aside for a quick reply -- Heim, these larger and more informative posts are great. The community needs serious chunks of information when things go down (and even when things are fine) and on that front you have been delivering lately. Please, continue to post like this.

We spend a money and can not play game long time and many times.
We can't even log in the game.
It is no use to buy HE Battle Manual Box.
It is no use Ymir server's exp-150%-bonus.

Someone should pay heavily. :)
Now this game being BREAKDOWN.

i know its been said, but loosing -1% and 5+ minutes of he/thick or regular battle manual everytime the server lags/disconnects/crashes is really annoying. were the he manuals reinstated along with exp bonus to make up for these crashes? its not worth spending our money on kafra shop items if we arent able to play the game properly. what about that server maintanence to correct these issues, was it ever re-scheduled?

Congrats, Gravity, you are letting yourself be shutdown by a script kiddie.

I mean, seriously, even if your "network" guys are working hard on the issue, why have the PR and implementers still been twiddling their thumbs and not disabled exp penalty on death yet??

If they could fix this, they would've already. They're obviously sitting around twiddling their thumbs hoping the DDOSing will stop. If it EVER does. It's likely ro will never recover from this if the DDOSer tries hard enough.

Hmm, I haven't played RO for a few days now other on those occasions where I log on, level for a few minutes and then suffer a lag-spike that either kills me or comes close to it. Just tried to log-on to check if it's safe to play but now I'm out of subscription time. Ordinarily I'd renew straight away but there's no point with this server instability. Think I'll wait a few days in the hope something changes.

Reading that thread about whole guilds quitting because their members got banned for exploiting bugs made me wonder if it had anything to do with this latest series of DDOS attacks - probably just me jumping to conclusions though ^^

Many comments and complaints have been heard regarding the latency and disconnections that have been occuring recently. We have had several seperate incidents that have accumulated together creating an overall bad game play experience in the past 7 weeks.

I want to talk about what has happened in the past week. We have been making numerous optimizations over the past months to find sources of lag and eliminate it. Things were going as well as expected with such a long term project, when our normally stable ISP began having its own problems. We had several downed routers throughout the internet (not all of them from our ISP) when that happens the network traffic redirects to less optimal routes that creates lag for the users. This is normal, it sucks when it happens but it is not an odd occurance in the internet world.

And then things got real.. a constuction project severed the lines from our Data Center completely cutting WarpPortal off from the world for almost a full day. This was repaired, but things were never quite the same. We began analyzing all packets coming in with a monitoring tool that was on loan, and it was illuminating for where bottlenecks were on our back end network (game servers, routers and DBs). Many optimizations were made over the weeks and regular improvements were noticed, which is expected given the size of such a project. However, at that time those pesky routers were not behaving and many connections between ISPs were very poor routings which causes more latency than would otherwise be there. We could see these problems as well, and reported them to the ISP which then negotiated and worked with the responsible people for the routers.

Things were fairly well sorted out by Tuesday of last week, there was 1 bad router that was being looked into on NTT side, and then the DDOS started on Thursday which made our services unavailable. This DDOS continues through now. Early this morning we hoped to perform a repair and check session at our IDC, this requires help from the Data Center and ISP staff. It was cancelled due to a work scheduling problem. We are doing the appropriate steps to mitigate the DDOS, which is extra annoying because the attack vector is fluctuating, and not persistent. We have taken appropriate prevention and repair procedures to lessen the damage, but due to the way internet traffic must work it is not possible to "turtle up" and still get legit traffic to get through. Our ISP and IDC is working with us but a final solution that doesn't kill normal traffic only comes with time or when the DDOS person stops (or is stopped).

I do expect the the latency and DCs to continue at some level for the next day or so. I do know we will be providing some treats as an apology and to help get you where you should have been. We will weather the storm and come out ahead in the end.

Merging all lag stuff here.

/sigh. . .

We are going to perform a network fix it session at 6pm today. Everything will be down. More latency (but it will be a consistent latency) will be the negative side, but the plus side the disconnections should cease, as our ISP is stepping in now.

Genesis works for gravity, that is THE PRIMARY reason why it's not DDOS and it is a bigger issue, he can solve that issue in 2 minutes while he is asleep.

Unfortunately, we are still getting disconnects. The lag seems to be worse before the network maintenance as well. We are sure feeling the double pain now.

But on the bright side, we're not losing XP on Ymir anymore until next Thursday.

And don't do anything where you go back to spawn when you disconnect, or level on maps that are hard to get back to.

SO ANNOYING. . . WHY NOT JUST SHUT ALL SERVERS/SITES/FORUMS TIL THIS IS "FIXED"? WE HAD A QUICK MAINT AND ITS OBVIOUSLY POINTLESS. . .

HOW MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE STARTING TO THINK AND QUIT WITH GRAVITY'S GAMES???

SO PISSED. . .

I PREFER SHUTTING THESE ALL TIL THIS DDOS "WHOEVER THE HELL OR WHATEVER THE HELL IT IS" BEEN RECOGNIZED, ITS NOT FUN PLAYING AND RELOGGING ALL OVER AND OVER AGAIN. . . /angry

Damn, first renewal bugs/poor testings, delayed VAS and now a hell of annoying latency/lag/DCs.

Gravity don't deserve my money anymore. . . /pif
