According to my gaming class teacher, who apparently worked on the first Kingdom Hearts with Square back then, the game was originally meant to be a Final Fantasy x Disney animation crossover. Business decisions caused it to change from that, which was obvious with KH2's shoehorning of Tron and Pirates of the Caribbean.
For me, I equate the whole Nobody concept as asinine as George Lucas' shoehorning of midichlorians into the Jedi lore, so I only accept Birth By Sleep and KH1 as canon and screw the rest of the series.

I could go to my parents house and dig in their garage and find my old kingdom hearts bathrobe and matching slippers that I bought from FYE when they went under. Pair that with the umbrella and I can catch all the eyes walking down the street.
