While I agree with most points that have been brought up in this discussion (especially after a look at some more recent submissions), I can't help but feel a little bit touched in a negative way and discouraged, as well. Since I very rarely do fan-art (at least at this point), and am quite a far cry from pro (definitely can't compete with those that do commissions), and I did indeed order a green hat with my first quarter submission, in addition to my quite low amount of posts, I feel like I could end up filtered out. However, that doesn't change the fact that the submission took me three days to make, and that the reason for my choice of green hat can easily be understood by just taking a quick look at the character I ordered it for. Heck, before I read this thread I had no clue those sell for loads, and for now I'm not that desperate anyway.

So, while I see where y'all stemming from, I can't help but see that it might  be unfair towards some. I tend to lean towards ending participation rewards or even the whole loading screen submissions thing altogether, but on the other hand I'm also all for loosening the borders to include more than drawings. I just see that certain quality filters could become problematic and it may become difficult and take time to weed out the bad stuff effectively.

Speaking of no participation rewards - in 2009, when I was 13, I submitted two artworks for the loading screen thread, which had no rewards back then. Both took about a week or so to make, and both made the cut. I recently dug them out and boy oh boy, they were baaaaad  :p_omg:

@Simona You don't need to worry, it's clear you've put thought and effort into it. When I wrote my previous points and mentioned scenarios=effort, I was actually thinking of your piece. I think most of us were talking about certain questionable ones. I understand your concern though, but don't be discouraged to submit more art when you draw new ones!

Making thanks to CMs for addressing the issue.

Sorry for somewhat offtopic but...

2) There's no efficient way to know that without forum posters trying to police the thread and call them out on it. I can simply re-upload an artwork and claim it to be recent and you won't know the truth unless the artist themselves say so. It will be extremely difficult to regulate this.

5) Someone can just get their friends to post for them to bypass this rule.

7) Dangerous game you're playing here. I find that to be more work than needed but good luck.

Rules can't change people's behavior or beliefs. The most rules can do is suppress them. I think you're going to run into the same trouble due to some individuals.

Nonetheless, I hope your changes work out.

2) This is true; although the CMs and VMods have done a very good job of finding out past iterations of the artwork in the past, and I feel comfortable relying on that method.

5) I will add the specification - we will be checking to see that the prizes don't go to the same account per month. We already do that, but I haven't said it here before, my bad

I understand your concerns, thanks for the vote of confidence!

I'm sorry if this discouraged you, that was certainly not my intention. I tried to make it clear that artists of all skills are welcome so long as honest effort was put into it, and I regard your submission as one of them (it was included). As an artist myself, I like to think I have some idea of what it looks like to have effort put into an art piece ;)

Seems the loading screen thread is just an art sharing thread and the CMs are basically paying people via hats to go find RO fanart for them to use. On the one hand, it means more high-quality art will make it into the game, but on the other hand, less-experienced artists will get discouraged from submitting their own art when they see all that fanart from more experienced artists. That's kind of sad what the loading screens have become.

There's a big difference between players submitting art they commissioned to have done, and simply finding art from elsewhere - the latter is explicitly not allowed, and the VMods and I shut down those entries when we find them. If we find them after they've been awarded, they're removed and the rewards are taken away. Again, I've done my best here to emphasize that we accept artists of all skill levels, and I hope they take that seriously. The rules have not changed drastically from before, we're just doing a bit more quality control on the submissions.
