[01] Me, Myself and I

What's up guys! My name is John and I started playing RO2 a few weeks ago, or like a month ago? So obviously I am making my way to the top yet and I'm currently at ML17. I'm from Philippines and I work as call~... ah.... yea. No need to say anymore about real life. Common, I'm playing this cause I want to escape it!

So yea, Basically, the title says it and this will be about my journey as a Ranger in Ragnarok, I just want to share some thoughts about this job and how I did some stuffs with the game itself.

"Wait! What? This moth**puppy*r is just a month old with the game and is making a guide already? Piss off."

Hell NO! This is not a guide, this is just a I thread I want to make as I see the forum for archer is kinda dead. Maybe I can help someone new and give them some idea about the game. Moving forward, this is not a guide, this is my life as a Ranger! Pew! Pew! Pew!

"Why Archer/Ranger?"

Because, I love unpopular jobs. As I have read in the forums, most of the people don't really think of making a ranger as their main.. Hold on! I know someone out there loves being a ranger and of course you are awesome. It's just that most of the people don't really go with making a Ranger Main.

With that being said, it's unpopular and it makes you unique.

As this is not a guide.. Please look at the Pinned Thread: Ranger Overview Guide [PvE Focus] if you want to have an in-depth hmm.. detail about the class. Well, of course in this thread, I will also be making my comments to each stuffs and we know that each has their own preferences. Please feel free to bash, to comment, to suggest or whatever. I really love those so that I can edit this thread in the future and make it up to date.

[03] My Physique

As Ranger, your main stats will revolve around STR, AGI and VIT. However, my plans with my ranger is to go VIT primarily and AGI as my secondary Stat.

Of course, I have put all my bonus status during level to VIT.

"Why VIT when you are supposed to be a DPS?"

As you are a DPS but squishy at the same time. It is advisable to invest more on VIT. What will be the use of your DPS skills when you die instantly during the match?

VIT will increase you 12 HP and 0.20% Potion effect per stat point. You will really need those extra HP to survive while sending all those missiles to the target. Pew! Pew! Pew!

"Why choose AGI over STR?"

This is just being me, no need to argue as you can also choose the stat/game play you want. But I choose AGI as my secondary stat because of the buff Attention Concentrate (?) that increase AGI for 10% at Level 5.

STR does provide 2 attack points and 1 accuracy and parry per stat point (not sure yet) and with Nords Blessing, this can be covered up.

With AGI improving your crit rate, dodge and accuracy and with the help of the buff, the stat will be able to assist you with damage burst and a little bit of dodge. I'd rather have a chance to dodge an attack which completely denies a damage rather than a chance to parry which still inflicts half of the actual damage.

For the Sub-stats (or whatever it is called), there is no doubt that you will need to reach the Vigor CAP at 3,360 (75% CD reduction). This stat is the major contributor of increasing your damage output not only to Rangers but on most classes.

Reaching the vigor cap helps you maintain the Ymir Child form at all times which increases your ATK power, MSPEED and Acceleration.

Penetration is also a great stat to consider as it ignores a portion of the targets defense greatly. Desolator mah men!

[04] My Power

Below is my future skill build.

Spoiler Archer Skill Tree

Spoiler Ranger Skill Tree

As I am still grinding for MP to purchase all the extra skill points on Master Levels. Please understand that I have not reached this build yet. However, I will be giving comments on each why I choose these build and please feel free to comment so that I can update the thread if I have made any mistakes with the skills.

OK! BACK TO THE GAME! :no1: :no1: :no1:

The build I plan to make is more on the PvP side. If you plan on being a end-gamer to this game, you will most likely choose the PVP route as there will be WoE and raids that will really excite you and keeps you anticipated. I don't really know how effective the Falcon Assault build is so.... Yea, Arrow Vulcan route for me.

Now why?

Well.. here are my thoughts about my build.

ARCHER SKILLS

Impact Arrow Lv10 + Acrobatic Lv3

Impact Arrow is an instant cast that has about the same damage as Charged Arrow at Lv3. In addition, at Lv10 it does decrease the MSPEED of target for 70% for 5 sec with 4 sec CD only. Without the Vigor on it, you still have 1 sec interval to re-cast the skill and run away to the enemy making it harder for you to be killed.

And Acrobatic Helps you move back from the enemy a few meters away giving distance again. Lv3 has 20 sec CD. But let's assume your going to make your Ranger the main and surely you will invest on getting the Vigor you need. At vigor cap 75% you will have 5 sec CD for this skill. Or even at 50% CD reduction, its already nice to have a 10 sec CD for a very useful skill.

So Slow them , bombard them with your DPS , move back and repeat steps 1,2,3 ♪♫♪

Charged Arrow Lv3 + Charged Arrow Mastery Lv3 Owls Eye Lv3

Charged Arrow is your main skill, no doubt about that and with the help of the passive, you get to fire the missile faster. It is also the only skill that provides 15 concentration which is use to machine gun the Double Strafe. In addition, when you use Charged Arrow 2 times in a row, the Owl's eye activates giving additional damage up to 9% for 10 sec.

Double Strafing Lv10

Well who doesn't want this skill, requires 30 concentration per shot but you can insta-cast this skill up to 3 times with full concentration bar and you also have a passive skill that helps you fire it 2 times (?) without the need of the concentration.

Now who's the machine gun?! Huh?! Ranger Baybehhh!!

Ankle snare Lv1 + Claymore Trap Lv1 + Freezing Trap Lv1

Well, I most likely just get these skills as prerequisites for the Camouflage skill. I did mention in the first part of this thread that Ankle snare can be so annoying, however, this skill requires great positioning and that is a great challenge.

Claymore trap gives DoT but with this effect only but requires positioning at the same time, I doubt you're gonna use if all the time. While Freezing Trap, this skill is kinda useful in PvP but more on PvE, it slows all the mobs within range upon explosion for 40% which looks like you just hit all those mobs with Impact Arrow Lv1 each. It's nice but very situational.

Multi Shot Lv1

As most people say, the damage for this skill is not that kind of amazing. The reasons I see this skill useful though are:

  • Insta-cast and can be done while moving, can be used to kite mobs to your party as it hits up to 10 enemies even at lvl 1. The fan shape range is what makes it very effective to hit those 10 mobs.
  • Wedge effect, the wedge effect gives the hit mobs DoT of 10% of your damage for 15 sec. However, this is not the only use of this debuff, as it increase the damage of your Main AoE skill Arrow Shower also.

Attention Concentration Lv 5

Well, it boost your AGI at 10% in Lv5. Contributing to your Crit rate, dodge and accuracy.

RANGER SKILLS

When I look at it, I think that ranger's main skills/DPS are found on the archer skill tree and the ranger skill tree just upgraded you into a more useful character.

True Sight Lv1 + Wind Walk Lv5

As I see my skill build is the Arrow Vulcan Route, I don't really see the skill True Sight very useful to me. It does reset your skills but I'd say you will only use this if you chase someone with Wind Walk, and still need more than the 30 seconds duration in battle with chasing and running around.

I addition, if by any chance I reach the Vigor cap of 75% CD reduction, Wind Walk will then have 30 sec CD instead of 120 sec. That means you can just re-cast the Buff after the duration ends. Makes true sight more useless.

I would have make True Sight at Lv5 if it could reset Ymir Child also so that you can have unli Ymir Child mode even without the cap vigor but sad truth is, it does not.

Wind Walk Lv5 However, is useful weather or not you have the vigor cap, it boost your MSPEED if needed together with the Haste and Vigor Rate.

Arrow Shower Lv1

Well, since in end-game, you will focus more on PvP and single DPS. Then this skill at Lv1 prerequisite is good. However, during leveling days, this skill must be at Lv6 to make you more useful. Well there is a skill reset at 50000 MP sold at Morroc so you can just reset after reaching cap.

Main Ranger Lv5

This passive skill helps you build up Fear Breeze which is used to cast Arrow Vulcan. In addition, this passive also help you become a machine gun or a more valuable DPS character as this gives you 15% chance of free-casting Double Strafing up to 2 times (?) when triggered without the required concentration.

Poison Arrow Lv1 and Sharp shooting Lv1

I choose these skills to stay at Level 1 as they only serve as fillers. You can either shoot these missiles out when chasing since Charge Arrow requires channeling or use it as mini debuff and continue with firing you DPS skills after the debuffs are applied.

Poison Arrow has a mini DoT that can be covered with your main skills and the skill don't have that kind of a big damage burst even at Lv5.

Sharp shooting at the same time don't have that great of a damage boost even at Lv6, the debuff increase your ranger skills of up to 3% only at Lv6 which means a bad thing to invest to.

So yea, these are fillers and Prerequisite for Arrow Vulcan.

Arrow Vulcan Lv10 + Fear Breeze Lv1

Arrow Vulcan serves as your main Damage Burst, With 5 stacks of fear breeze acquired everytime a double strafe will be shot, you will be able to channel this skill within a second to your target.

Well I left Fear Breeze at lvl 1 as a prerequisite and a must have for arrow vulcan. As of now, I am having doubts with maximizing this passive as the effect only increases acceleration or Haste (?) or the sub stat to lower down the channeling time, not really sure. Charge arrow's channeling is already decreased by the passive skill Charge arrow mastery at a good point. So yea.. Share your thoughts!

Camouflage Lv3

It's a scouting skill and a initiator also to start a damage with a sure-strike critical hit. Also, at lvl 3 it removes the MSPEED reduction. Cannot use during battle mode though, but that is okay as it makes the game more balanced as there is no detection skill in this game if my guess is right.

Camouflage Mastery Lv0 + Falcon assault Lv0

Well, I choose these skill to be not taken as I am more on the Vulcan route.

Camouflage Mastery does give 30% MSPEED during invisibility however, please note that it can only be used once as it cannot be re-casted during battle mode. and I doubt your opponent will give you a chance to let go.

Falcon Assault... Hmm, I really have questions about this skill that is why I didn't choose these route. Falcon Assault Lv5 and True Sight Lv5 though is a really good combo to have 2 summons at a time for the next 30 seconds. But people say the element does not apply to the summon, just correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, I tried to get this summon at Lv1 before and the summon does not chase? I really need clarification about this one.

Unlike normal MMOs, when you summon the pet or familiar or so whatever, after you have a target of your choice, it will then follow and attack the same target. Making it very useful in battle in both PvP and PvE. However, when I tried it at first time, it did kill the monster I targeted that was 'near' the summon but did not chase the target I had in the far range. The Falcon stays at one place and choose to attack the targets at the near area only.

If it is not a bug and it's happening to everyone, then that makes this skill bad, at least for me.

[05] Play Style

What do you put on Play style? I just followed the first thread for table of contents, LoL

Well, if it's play style. Archer's are solely made for single DPS.

Most MMOs usually have their archers as DPS/Disabler. But seeing the current skills the rangers have, slowing and DoT-ing opponents are the disables we have right now :/ So sad! I wish we have Stun Arrow and/or Silent Shot.

[06] Tips

I will just give a little advise on this section since I don't know what to put in my freakin' thread. Sorry guys XD

I'll mainly give tips on leveling as an archer (or can also be considered as a general tip for leveling all classes).

There are two ways to level up in this game, Questing or Grinding.

Spoiler I will be putting this as spoiler as it doesn't really involve being a ranger.

EDIT: Still working with the contents. Will update from time to time.

[07] Equipment Choice

I'm still at ML20 as of the moment and is currently farming the hell out of me with my farmer class, So I don't really expect myself to provide you these tips. I'm sorry newbies. But as a general knowledge, equipment choice is also the same as your stat build, it will entirely depend on your own preference.

We all strive to be stronger in one way or another. The Set at ML levels (preferably the purple rarity) will give you different stats and set effects and you are free to choice to +20 the eq of your choice.

Rest assured, that I will update this part of this thread as I continue to live my ranger life in the future.

[08] Special Mention

As of the moment, Ranger requires heavy re-balancing or improvement to be in the same ground with other main classes. But getting the good equips will really cover this up and team work of course. Do you win WoE on your own? of course not! so if you see yourself as a ranger but is not doing that well yet on single PvP. How about helping your guildies win the war from afar.

Sogekingu~ shimade~ *Insert Sogeking theme song*

Still, Playing the Job you like or love is how you should determine your choice of character, same with life. Do or choose the things you Love! PASSION My Men~!

At the same time, I would still love the devs to take another look of this class as I really love to see this class improve and I would like to encourage anyone to keep posting your suggestions until the devs decides to approve it. LoL!~

[09] Special Thanks

Special Thanks to everyone who are still Playing as an Archer up to this date and keeps on Loving our class. Let's see each other soon~

EDIT: Still working with the contents. Will update from time to time.

yea, I'm actually having doubts now with the AGI build too, as many people are saying it's not that good. but since, im still building my character. I'll try to go with this route first and just switch to STR if it is not that effective.

Thanks for the feedback mate!
