Sorry for the book, just trying to get thing explained as I've seen.
The EU crap has the company afraid. Something apparently "has them spooked" about changes to what can happen to a company by getting hacked. I would imagine that it would have to do with a company that loses financial data to a hacker. From what I read it really has to do with the company "coming clean" and "not losing gobs of money for it's users."
Essentially? It means that Gravity doesn't trust their own code/ability to keep hackers out of their financial data. Rose itself was first designed and started coding like fifteen years ago. It was/is coded (from what I am told) in an old archaic language that is no longer in use anywhere. This means that it's ability to respond to hacker attempts could be a problem because there just weren't gobs of hackers trying to get access to financial data like they do now AND the ability to block hackers is much more complicated than a newer language would have just as a base.
Lets face one thing...Rose isn't exactly the strongest programmed game in the world as evidenced by it's constant access to duping of items and such. Their response to these dupes is not to patch the hole as much as it is to banning and attacking both the dupers AND the people caught buying from the dupers which has two sides to it.
Side one is the people who know they're duping so they just use that character to "wash" the fact that they were duplicated. (Bwwaat? Duplicated items? I really didn't know that Diamond 7s were 20 million each!). These people are banned which are generally good bans but some people get rolled up in those too.
Side two are the people who innocently buy the duped items and get nailed too. You generally have beg and plead and point to your life of being a good user before they unban you.
In any case, the game has flaws and bugs and people can get access to them. If someone smashes through their current code and gets access to your credit card information, the .EU change in policy makes the company fiscally responsible for these hacks which is idiotic for the most part. The ONLY reason why a company should be targeted is if they a> try to hide it b> don't make all parties aware of it immediately c> don't make the .EU governing body aware of the details in a timely fashion.
There is some stupidity when it involves the .EU from the past.
Google got sued (successfully of course because .EU owns it's own courts) for close to 3 BILLION dollars(not zulie) a couple years ago for what the EU thought was predatory practices but what essentially Google preferring to point to itself above other places in its searches. It was INSANITY because a company should be able to do what it damn well does with it's code.
Microsoft got sued by the .EU for having bits of things in it's operation systems that were strongly pointed towards itself like a decade and a half ago for 653 million dollars.
There are other examples. Basically what it points to is that the .EU is extremely predatory when it comes to software companies. If a company like Gravity took a large hit, most likely the company would fold which I believe is THE WHOLE PROBLEM. Gravity wants to protect itself by just blocking the people who are the risk.
At the end of the day, Gravity is scared of .EU coming down on them too. That is to say that they do not trust their code well enough that they have to ban a 1/4 of the world from playing any of their games so they they don't face the risk of a .EU financial penalty. It's safe to say that the game has no problems as far as pointing towards themselves or stuff like that, the ONLY reason is fear of having hacks getting users credit card information shared and exploited because of what is admittedly old and very leaky programming.
I see their fear because they really haven't been supporting the base of the programming itself. When you look at it, the code itself has had more than TEN or more different teams working on it from different countries, companies and even languages. (if you were around since the beginning like me, you'd remember the Asian comments from NPC's(#@$^^@# for your item new?) OR the silly obviously run through an English translator NPC replies "I ARE GOING to KILL YOU MUST I !")
So, they've had all these different programmers, from like four physically different companies as the game got sold/kicked somewhere else, They've had all these programmers and what they programmers have been doing is the cheapest possible thing - they just keep programming on top of the existing code. So if you have a bug from 2011, and you code on top of it, the bug is still there or worse, the bug gets made worse by the new code expanding the bug. One of the basic tenets of programming is you NEVER advance until you have cleared your bugs. The owners of Rose have had a VERY bad history of this. I've seen bugs that were six or months old, all the while they kept making new maps or items (OR ITEM MALL!!!) instead of fixing the bug.
Now, WHAT DOES MY BOOK MEAN? It means Gravity doesn' t trust it's code. They're more afraid of getting sued by the .EU than they are of cutting 1/4 of the world (and their money) out of every single one of their games. A hack (and it not being dealt with quickly and as fast as possible) would most likely bankrupt Rose as it's quite honestly not exactly financially successful now with having what is said to be one programmer.
It would be SO much better if Gravity would advertise Rose because the graphics and game play are STILL superior to so much of the world. I mean look at the people playing Minecraft? No offence but it looks to have been made by an eighteen year old kid on drugs. People are willing to play (and PAY) for THAT versus all the rich content, free to play and a generally kick ass system of things in Rose???? It's ALL slowed down because Gravity won't take the time to go on all the gaming sites and advertise the game!
Maybe that's the solution here for us? Since Gravity doesn't do it, why don't we all take the time to go out and help promote the game. Go to gaming discussion sites, take five or ten minutes and explain how frigging awesome Rose is. It's not a guess but a reality that people will come but we need to get them to come! Rose is HERE and just waiting for a crap ton of users to come and enjoy themselves in it but that won't happen if we're all lazy and don't help support and get new players in.
If we help out and get people to come, who knows? Maybe we could get the game to get those users we need to take off again. The game is RELEVENT! We just need to help out some as Gravity seems to PROGRAM but not PROMOTE.
Anyways, enough with my book. I apologize that it took so much but I truly feel it's all up to us to get over this devastating hit we are going to take from the .EU bull crap.
