Is there a profanity/decency filter for loading screens? I've seen way too many of these with highly suggestive innuendo that I don't think belongs in a 12+ game. And they've been increasing of late.

Yes.

See rules of the section here.

If a loading screen or any other entry outside the thread falls under profanity category or has suggestive content that we might have missed to report the entry to the moderation team ASAP.

Just to add that I still believe that 'winners' picked at random creates losers that lose for no other reason than a roll of a (Random Number Generator), one of the very laziest ways to do anything and one of the very worst ways to validate people's efforts.  We've had one round of losers and one round of unhappiness and I'm thinking there's a pattern but it's too soon to tell.

I doubt you made 5 people genuinely happy; I bet you made more than 5 people unhappy.

You work in the entertainment industry!

V2gun, when picking up entries at random I am sure the quality is valued assuming that they are within rules of the thread.

We have to remember the loading screen thread is not a contest, the raffle and gifting items is a bonus, this is how I see it.

That's just it!  The quality is NOT valued.  Entries are merely within the rules or not and that's the only qualifier for the rewards.

Spend 7 days on a pic?  Spend 7 minutes on a pic?  Your system treats both efforts equally and no thinking person should look on that as fairness.  Moreover, both get a 'raffle ticket', a mere chance of winning and what's more, that chance diminishes as more and more people enter, possibly with lower and lower efforts.  You've engineered a race to the bottom and you'll seemingly take no advice on the matter.

Here's how I see it:

3-4 days after the first round of prizes is given out, (*quick count*) there are 9? feedback posts criticizing the rewards system and 1-2? neutral posts and moderator interventions and a warning of banhammer use unless we settle down.

You have to remember that the loading screen thread should not be a source of division, the gifting of items shouldn't be so controversial that soup threatens humans.

You're doing this wrong and the best community managers would work to a solution that's amenable to most artists rather than alienate them (or worse, annoy people like me who will play a system that rewards indiscriminately).

Let's not talk about forums moderator handling here, this is not the thread for it.

On topic, I understand your concern.

In your honest opinion though, what would be a viable and fair resolution to this?

Bear in mind, as of right now, the staff may not go back to rewarding all participants.

and now you guys actually become civil when other people raise the point? lol. the only fair resolution is obvious, someone has to judge art if you don't wanna give everyone free stuff. that's the most just thing there is aside from giving everyone a prize

either way, i think we've already said a lot for you guys to know what to do. i mean i did raise the point on my previous post that it's either of the two (participation prize or actually judged art) which i think even the moderators did not read through, because all you see is that the post is drama

you guys are hopeless

bye

As others have said, pretty concisely, the only way to judge is to actually judge.  Relying on RNG is lazy and stupid; it's literally brainless (even though you fear to judge, we can't help seeing good art vs bad and making the comparison ourselves, even if we don't voice it every time, though you'll probably hear some pent up resentment bubble up when bad art wins).  You keep insisting that it's not a contest but that's just hiding behind semantics when you have such clear winners and losers.

Moving forward:

if you insist on despised RNG - then get rid of its obvious pitfalls.  Make it a streaming event or an in-game event and make it as transparent as you can, assign tickets on-camera and pull winners out of a hat or get in game and use /dice or something.  Interact with us.  Don't decide it all out of sight and then expect us to take your word it was all 100% above board and not shady at all.  Also, consider having a fluid number of winners - if 50 screens are submitted one month then you should have more prizes available than months where you only received 5 entries.

If you insist on 'it's not a contest' - remove prizes for winners or revert to participation prizes for all.  The old creative convention thing wasn't too bad except the green hat encouraged entries motivated by greed.  Making the green hat untradeable/ statless/ homogenous would've patched that hole and slowed the sink.  All you've done here is maybe reward participation whilst passively demoting effort and talent (like every time a non-artist declares artists are unfairly rewarded in these threads).

If you insist on rewarding some (winners) and not others (losers) - grow some responsibility and judge the winners.  Have the decency to honestly look at our submissions and give an honest opinion, just the thing you're asking of me now.  Even a bad decision is more acceptable than no decision (see how many bad responses you got for the cosplay contest? None that I saw; maybe you removed them but I doubt it - the whole thread had a nicer vibe throughout).

Others have voiced concerns about commissions.  I, personally, don't care if the art is submitted by artist or buyer so long as consent is sought and given.

Ultimately, you need to decide what you want these loading screens for.  If you don't want this stress then just choose some nice official arts and leave them there till the heat death of the ROVerse.  Also consider that most machines, including my 8+ year old machine, will load maps almost instantly.  Loading screens might not even be necessary.

If you do want user screens then ask yourself why?  To make the game look nice? To promote the game? Reward player fandom?  Pick a mission and choose actions that help it, drop actions that hinder.

Keep us enthused.
