[Classic]How to deal with ranged monsters as a mage class?

Was trying out playstyles for a wizard in ID3 and having fun trapping the Ice Titans between Ice Walls when I got bonked by a Gazetti, which got me thinking on how to deal with ranged monsters... And I can't think of any, which brings me to ask ye olde and wiser forums!

Especially without an uninterruptible cast...

I used to switch to status inflicting armor if they aggro, such as stun or stone. There's probably better ideas though.

fly wing away if they are too close :T

if you can see them before they attack you, isolate yourself with icewalls, as they'll not aggro without line of sight, then kill 'em from afar.

Fly wings kinda mess me up because it's likely to have enemies where I land after the teleport, and I have nowhere to back up since it's usually in the middle of every mob.

That Ice Wall/Line of Sight AI manipulation sounds pretty sweet. Will try out soon!

Update: If the ranged enemy spots you, ice wall does nothing... which is a problem because I virtually have no approach options for ranged enemies. Jeeze, wizzy's huntings are usually either full on no problem firewall/bolting or no chance at all. I suppose that's why we're supposed to party up.

Are Gazeti's not freezable with level 1 stormgust or frost diver?
