So in a previous thread someone mentioned that "normal" iRO might soon be FTP come March so I'm looking for confirmation. Thanks.

Will it be a File Transfer Protocol? No.
Will it be Free 2 Play? Yes.
March is the current goal. Hasn't changed to my knowledge. Though it always can.

Iro is already using FTP to send packets to and from the server...
I think you meant free to play...Read the Future plans *2/17 Edition* Sticky for more info, it seems the old info thread about it went poof

the op is correct, free to play is ftp. f2p is free two play
The internet and grammar don't mix. Don't fight it. You'll lose.
However if you plan to continue fighting. F2P should not be a concern, as it is correct terminology. "Plz" is a major concern. Take their lives.

FTP is file transfer protocol. F2P is free to play.the op is correct, free to play is ftp. f2p is free two play
Prior to this thread, I had _never_ seen "free to play" abbreviated as ftp. It was always F2P, presumably to distinguish it from FTP/File Transfer Protocol. In fact, I've never seen FTP used to abbreviate anything other than File Transfer Protocol.

Oh I have seen much worse...I have seen someone use "vry" instead of just very...

It's something like it'll be free to play with premium accounts. Whereas at the moment there's a free server, a premium server and something called yggdrasil that is premium but only has 30 people on it.

confirmation is in that thread

Actually, FTP would be incorrect, as you do not capitalize "the" in a proper title, and thus would be omitted in a proper acronym or left lowercase. FtP would be correct.the op is correct, free to play is ftp. f2p is free two play

We did? I didn't until I read the responses where others figured it out...Well,we all did understand, so I guess FTP could be an ok acronim, unless someone can prove why 'two' is a gramatically correct acronim and not a "well, someone used it, people understood, became popular" acronim.

I've heard worse too. I have a friend who types @ instead of "at" in all his sentences.
Isn't @ a logogram that does mean 'at', just as & does mean 'and'?
Maybe not as common, but it should be as correct...

I don't think it's proper grammar to use "&", "@", etc. in essays and stuff like that though.Isn't @ a logogram that does mean 'at', just as & does mean 'and'?
Maybe not as common, but it should be as correct...

Yeah - the jist of it is:This thread got derailed quickly But yet, iRO is going F2P in March, though not too much specifics has been said yet.
All servers will be free to play on.
The old premium servers will require an paid subscription in order to create characters (this is an antibotting measure; experience has shown that a paywall is spectacularly effective at keeping large scale farmers out - you can pay for one month and create nine novices and never have to worry about it again, if you so choose).
Anyone on any server can pay for a subscription, and get the benefits that were formerly on the premium server only. (ie, enhanced rates, and access to the convenient npcs).
I think using @ instead of 'at' is comparable to using & instead of 'and' - both are mildly annoying, but nothing to get concerned about.
What's irritating is when people use 2 instead of 'to' and 4 instead of 'for' in general conversation... Yes, that's what is done in the F2P abbreviation, and it annoys me, but it's what's used just about universally (including in official communication from game operators) - consistency and clarity comes before aesthetics. I think the fact that the practice of replacing words with number is widespread among MMO gamers is part of why the abbreviation "F2P" was chosen by companies (on a "We should try to communicate in the same way as our users to better connect with them" basis.) for their free to play MMO products.

If you don't like numbers in your acronyms, Freemium is the other term for it.

I still wating to see what they gona take away from premium servers when they do this
My guess is it will become like Valk server for rates etc. But stuff like the extra warpers may be still accessible if thats what "access to NPC" means. Also no missing cards/other nerfs still.
If you are on Ymir/Ygg without a subscription, you would have default rates, storage, access to NPC, and canâ??t make characters. But any Characters you already have can be logged into.
For ymir it is free [to] access, but for the sub (as now) you get all the old features back, and the new ones we will add in like the premium dungeons and buffs and such.
* Bonus exp, Bonus drops, upgrade rate, death penalty, extended storage, access to premium content NPCs, Access to premium dungeons, And accesss to create characters
