Similarly, shamans have good DPS too and can tank with their high HP and defence totem (mystic). But you're relying on damage to hold aggro.
Commanders can use 2-handed weapons if you wanna bash stuff (though 1-hander and shield is their specialty), and can be built as a good balance between damage and tanking ability.
Protectors are the tanks of the game, but very limited offensive capability.
And druids can make a good job of tanking too.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the game and am trying out both the warrior and Shaman. As I have been playing the Warrior, I have found the DPS to be great, but wonder if this class can tank, as I have not yet seen a shield yet for the Warrior. Nor any taunt style abilities. So can the Warrior tank or is it just the blonds that have that kinda fun?
A good zerker can tank pretty easy, with a good set and buffs i reach 18k HP and can hold agro for the most time. No big deal to tank RH, Biskra, DC.

mystic with saker debuff should have no problems getting agro over anyone (talking similar gears not +5 vs +30)

Aweaome avatar. Thanks for the replies everyone, good info right there. Yes, I would like to be able to tank, but I don't want to take forever to kill stuff, so will probably not go Defender. However, many of the options (especialy about the shaman) sound good, so will give those a try.
Thanks again.

... If you do, you will not be able to use half your skills and will deal less damage making it more difficult to hold aggro. Its simply not worth it tanking as a Warrior when you have the highest single target DPS.

Protector - Best tank due to party defence buff, block buffs, extra aggro skill and heals. Bad offense, slow to level.
Commander - Same two main taunt skills of a prot, but without the buffs. Good offensive skills, making it relatively fast to level.
Druid - Slightly less aggro than prot or commie, but very flexible class if you put the effort into it. Can be quick to solo. HP buff gives it nice tanking potential.
As has been said, any class can tank with enough HP and defence (which is easily gained by radiant and warlord/elem buffs), but the nice thing about using a 'proper' tank with taunts is the healers know where the aggro will be. Since there's no way of monitoring aggro, this is very nice
I'd recommend Commander for what you seem to want to do.

Needs a minute to build agrro and the high DPS people watch what they are doing. I prefer it, more fun class

Thanks for all the great info everyone. I made a Protector (Defender? Getting my MMOs mixed up >.<) and have leveled her to 21 so far. Guess will go Commander when the second job opens up.

Just one thing, since you have asked about tanking, I would assume you are mainly interested in PvE? Because mahy people use Commanders primarily for PvP. Commanders can do very well in tanking too, but you need a proper build and gear for the task, this could be rather different than a PvP build. Also, Commanders will really shine at high levels, but I guess for PvE they will do good even from the beginning. Good luck, hope you enjoy Requiem!

when's gonna Serra Tank JS or ET? >.>Yep, you have started a Defender (1st job class). And if you go to Commander, welcome to our rather populous club.

Wl actually has 2 skills that take aggro. Shout of Ferocious Tiger, and feast of blood. Shout brings 1159 aggro at max level, and feast brings 300 i believe. The DPS brings ag too, but, max shout will take aggro from a lot of "tanks" Not that a WL wants that much aggro, until he is capped and geared to withstand it. Given good healers at level 76 I can tank small bosses, like RH, Biskra, etc.Dosnt one of Warlord attacks add Agro?

tested and proven they can take aggro if prot needs them too. all they have to do is stop taunting and warlord can tank rh. mine took aggro and stand tanked him for a bit tryin to save the party from the tank loosin it. with just foc set. if u taunt shout and feast and have good healers then anyone can tank. sad thing is my 70 warlord has more hp than my 66 doomguard with 6/8 +15 c-c. warlord only has s1 biskra con helm and 2 lab id +18 charm and determined willingness.
