just a minor thing
i noticed the loading screen images look nice here but some gain compression artifacts/noise as viewed in the client; (as if the client lacks colors to support gradients)
i start files at 1024x768
only jpeg allowed right?
previous submission thread specified under 100kb but not in here, so maybe the larger kb images here are being compressed further to fit in the client?
should i just make the images under 100kb as i save them? (so they don't need to be compressed further)
I'd suggest just making 'em big and PNG for maximum quality as Oda (I assume) needs to scale them down to 640x480 to fit into the game client anyway. I think he asks for them at 1024x768 or higher for archival reasons.
Or you could submit a game-compatible version along with the high quality version. The specs appear to be 640x480 JPEG ≤ 100KB.
If you have Photoshop I found a handy filter for optimizing the colors so you can include gradients as well- http://www.telegraph...w/product/5_6_5 use the 555 filter (has to run in 32bit mode). This makes your image dithered 15 bit color, which Ragnarok seems to run under (I tried the 565 filter for 16bit color, and still had gradient banding). This has to be done as a final step to be effective, and will generally make your image a bit grainy, so don't run it on your higher resolution version.
Also (shameless plug) check out my HiRes loading screen pack. http://forums.warppo...oading-screens/
I dig through the forums and optimize all the current loading screens for high resolution screens after every patch, and pop them in a Ragnarok skin.
