The catch is, I'm running Windows 7, not 8 like everyone else seems to be? It just started in the last month or so. I've tried messing with the patch files, completely re-installing the game, changing compatibility modes, poking the setup file, everything.

I just want to play on Classic, dang it!

... And of course the whole "patching Classic makes my characters on Renewal disappear" thing is obnoxious. But I can actually fix that, it's just super annoying. But I felt like complaining about that too. :3c

E: And yes, before anyone says anything, I also triple checked to make sure it was cleared with Avast! and my firewall. It is. It's still throwing the error.

Yep, I'm a returning player and the first thing i see when I come back is error lol

Edit: seems they MAY have fixed the problem, Try logging back in because I can get through now

I am on Windows 7 and have never encountered a problem unless I do not run the patch client as admin. Then it messes up to all hell.

Yep, I have that under control. It's just super obnoxious that I have to completely re-patch Chaos to be able to play the game every single time when switching servers.

Just tried running as admin, and nope! Still not working. This is so frustrating. :p_sleep: Thanks for trying to help though!

i dont get it... i still have the problem... everytime i start classic ro (as admin or not) (patched as admin or not) i get a gravity error same as ryleigh postet it...

win7 with sleeping firewall...
renewal client works without a problem... -.-' same setup options........................

New install, patched with XP SP2 compatibility mode and admin, running with compatibility and admin, trusted in avast and comodo firewall, still nothing. windows 7 64 bit.

renewal works just fine, classic completely broken tho

kind of annoying how this is a problem every single patch and none of the old fixes seem to work

I'm experiencing the same exact problems as Ryleigh, and I'm seeing the exact same error as schorrigan, I'm using windows 7. Hopefully someone in the staff/dev w/e helps us here. The fact that I can see 1300 people playing classic right now really sucks seeing as how I can't play with them T_T!.

I can only see how many people are online when I start up the client labeled "Ragnarok". But when I start up the client labeled "Ragnarok Classic" I get the error mentioned by schorrigan! >.<! Angry soon to be maybe not-player!


Plus the fact that this game is the one I've come back to after experiementing with so many current games out there. Guild wars 2, C9, WoW, tera so on... Not to say that these games arn't good. But this is just the one I dont know how to explain it.

And the first day I start it up! Oh look classic mode doesnt work.- WtF!

Alright guys so I was having the same exact problem as you guys. But then I read one topic about Avast and this error. I told myself this wont work. But ask your self are you using avast? if you are thats your problem right click Avast goto Real time shieds-->Behavoir shields--> Expert settings --> then find add clrag.exe for classic and rag.exe for regular.

I assume from your wording that that fixed the problem for you? As mentioned at the bottom of the first post, I've already done that, and it didn't help. :/

This sucks. Pretty much an entire month of VIP was wasted because of this crap.

I've had a similar issue when switching between Renewal and Classic. Here's how I managed to fix it:
Install two separate copies of RO -- one is going to be for Renewal, one will be for Classic.

Do not place them in C:\Program Files\. Even though I do not have UAC at all, this still caused many issues for me.

Add them to ignore on all your fun things -- antivirus, firewall, w/e. Or better yet, dump Avast and get Microsoft Security Essentials. So much more bueno.

Update the clients, independently, Renewal first then Classic.
Since you're on Windows 7, no need to use Compatibility Mode. Since you're not in C;\Program Files or any other protected directory, no need to run as admin.

In your Renewal directory, ensure you run the new Setup.exe (the one that's all fancy with its tabbed browsing)

In your Classic directory, ensure you run Setup_Classic.exe

As a sanity check, just use the option that should be like Direct 3D T&L HAL (Texture and Lighting Hardware Acceleration) -- this'll ensure it's not your GPU going boom for whatever stupid reason.

Once I did this, I was good to go. Classic can be a bit annoying, though. If it updates for renewal I usually have to redo the patches again. Can't guarantee it'll help you, but it helped me.

Thank you so much! Your suggestion actually didn't help, but it gave me an idea that seems to have fixed it for me. So I guess it... kind of did help? I don't know, but I'm thanking you anyway.

So! I did what you said and installed the game again, if only to solve my having to re-patch every time I want to play Renewal issue, and I had a thought after patching Classic. What if I replaced clragexe with the original, unpatched version, since that seems to be the problem? So I did, and so far I haven't got a single error.

I fully expect this to give me grief later, but right now I can actually play for the first time in a month, so I don't really care.

http://www.filefacto...n/ClassicRO.zip if you can't find any other solutions, replacing clrag.exe with this older version and patching as you normally would should remove the problem

i haven't been able to play using the normal client for months. it blows me away that they just sit around and don't fix this. this exe is the only one that lets me or my boyfriend even get on classic

it isn't perfect but it's playable. if you tab out a lot sometimes the playable screen gets disalligned or something so the mouse will get trapped in a box that doesn't match the screen. just tab out and back in again to fix it. i haven't run into any other issues while using it.

though i guess ryleigh's solution is basically the same thing without the .exe download paranoia so idk
