Start up Error for Windows 8 - Issue Resolved

So my lovely laptop is in for service (12 weeks and counting....) and I recently went in to demand the store provide me with a loaner computer as I am a college student who nearly failed classes last semester due to their slowness in fixing mine. Next semester is starting soon and I was not going to sit by and start off the semester with no computer.

Naturally after having obtained a loaner computer and still being on winter break, I installed RO. However I seem to be having many issues with Windows 8 (I plan to write a strongly worded letter to Microsoft about it.) RO being my current main problem.

When I started either client, an error occured. I looked for a fix. Found a solution. The renewal sever works now. Classic, however, does not. Classic is the main server I play so this is a serious issue for me.

Ive read several posts regarding this very issue. None of the fixes I have read thus far have solved my issue.

Ive run it as administrator. Ive run it not as administrator.
Ive run it in compatability mode and Ive run in not in compatability mode.
Ive run the set up as administrator and Ive not run it as administrator.
Ive run the set up in compatability mode and Ive run it not in compatability mode.
Ive done every combination of these things and the different options within compatability mode included in these attempts. Its possible I missed one combination but It has officially hurt my brain.

I keep getting the same error message every time. The patch runs just fine, but no background music, no image pops up in the window and the error message is immediate:

Everyone I know has either failed as much as myself or has no intention of trying to help me solve this problem. Any assistance anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I had this issue too. The only way I managed to fix it was to remove RO, reinstall, update Renewal all the way with admin + compatability mode, then update classic all the way, then run RO.

And repeat that for each patch. There's probably a more elegant solution though.

Mmmm I did that too, but its possible that I did not run everything in compatability mode when I reinstalled and patched. Once I get the chance, (Im somewhat busy at the moment) I will try again.

Thank you for your advice and I will share my results when I get them.

It sounds like your laptop is something less than lovely if you've had to take it in for repair twice in two school years (ie 1.5 calendar years), and the repair policy is no better, if the repairs take long enough that you need a loaner (there's no excuse for this - every piece in a laptop can be replaced in an hour or so, less if you're a trained professional). I had an experience like that with Sony - never again. I buy Asus-brand (best reliability rating for PC laptop) laptops from a store that can service them in-store, so I can go in every day and get status updates. This send-it-away-for-repair thing is a total screwing.

Only report I see regarding this recommends uninstall, delete RO folder, reinstall, then patch renewal running as admin, and then patch classic, running as admin, and notes that not deleting the RO folder will prevent their fix from working.

Also, don't try to run it full screen on win8, that's known to not work.

I agree with you about my laptop. I have demanded that they replace it. I paid a lot of money to get a laptop that could smoothly run Photoshop and all those programs and all I have gotten out of that laptop is problem after problem. The store that is repairing my laptop has had it for 100 days now. So annoying. I am never buying a computer from them again. They ordered a new keyboard 2 week wait for delivery. Recieved the wrong keyboard. Ordered a new keyboard 2 week wait for delivery. Recieved the wrong keyboard again. Ordered a new keyboard 2 week wait for delivery. Installed keyboard and returned laptop to me. Keys still dont work (even though they claimed they tested it and everything was "functioning properly") so I took it back. I happened to be in the store yesterday so I asked about it. They ordered a new keyboard and are waiting for a delivery -__-; Another new keyboard will really solve the issue cuz that makes perfect sence... lol.

I did solve my Classic issue, Just now actually.

When I got this loaner laptop, I hated (still do lol) the windows 8 OS, and I was furious over having to take my laptop BACK to the store because they failed to fix it properly. My friend installed an "app" called "Pokki" which sort of looks like previous versions of windows. I had this suspition that pokki was was causing problems and replaced it with another program that looks and acts just like windows 7. And once pokki was totally gone, classic worked without any problems.

So for anyone with a similar issue, if your using pokki, stahp it.
