This probably sounds really dumb.. but how do you kill whisper?

Whispers are Ghost 3 element; Ghost 3 and higher take 0% damage from neutral element attacks. You must use an elemental attack to damage them - either a weapon that is naturally elemental, or use endow or converter or enchant poison to make your attacks elemental, or use a skill that deals elemental damage (like most magic attacks).

Note that elemental weapons and endows only make weapon atk elemental, so your damage will still be pretty crap, because your status atk (atk added by stats) will still be neutral, and hence reduced to 0. Mild Wind (from the zodiac hats) will endow status attack as well, and of course, skills that specifically inflict elemental damage inflict damage that is fully elemental.
