Please confirm if you have played it with the high resolution yourself and how to activate and make it work. Please provide proof if you think it can work.

Edit: My PC does not support 2880 X 1800 but I tried to take it till that level, classic sort of works but renewal gave some issues.
So I think, if your PC supports 2880 X 1800 you probably can play it with that resolution.
Doesn't it show 2880 X 1800 in Setup resolution? If not then manually configure it inside the file OptionInfo.lua inside the folder savedata. There is an option for Width and Height, set it to 2880 and 1800 respectively.

Just got my Retina Macbook Pro, and I'm having an issue. Desktop is set to 2880x1800, and RO2 Setup is set to 2880x1800 Fullscreen. When it launches however, it looks blown out of propotion with the center of the image and the login screen being at the lower right of my screen... Wish I could fix it somehow!

My guess - though I can't be sure without pictures - is that your computer is trying to be "helpful" and is scaling the resolution by 2:1 in the x and y directions (this would be desirable for many older apps, which would look itsy-bitsy on a retina screen - but not for RO, since you've set the resolution correctly). I know the Retina macbooks do this with some applications (despite that this defeats the point of a retina screen).Just got my Retina Macbook Pro, and I'm having an issue. Try the following:
* Consult the documentation for your computer to determine if this behavior can be disabled. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5266 might be a good start
* Try running RO in windowed mode (RO generally behaves much better in windowed mode vs fullscreen)
* Try running RO at 1440x900, and let it get upscaled 2:1 in both directions.
