Pretty much what the two posters above me said. I played RO2 for a little but didn't see anything special about it and quickly uninstalled, but yeah it would be a good idea to get other opinions - it just wasn't a game for me.

That is correct. RO2 is like most of the 3D MMORPG out there. I didnt continue to play RO2 because of its graphics (which looked like there are kids running around in the game).

I have played RO2 and most of the MMORPG out there (including the one that is on top now) and I would still say RO1 is better than RO2 atleast.

EDIT: I would suggest you to ask to RO2 community as well, just to know their views as well

The kid part was a turn off, it's like dragon nest

Exactly. I was waiting to see RO2 when Gravity first proposed the idea. But I was really disappointed when I played it at first. Made a theif or something, played it till 20 or so level and left RO2. For me it either has to be a 2D game or a 3D game with awesome graphics and unique gameplay like GW2

Yeeeah the graphics are terribly disappointing when you compare it to other 3D games. RO1 gets away with what some people consider to be poor graphics because the pixel graphics are actually a big part of its charm.

I'm a bit of a different case since I played RO2 before RO1.  I had 3 max level characters in SEA (priest, knight, assassin).  Right now I'm mostly on RO1, but I wouldn't say I gave up on RO2.

Here's a list:

  • RO2's stat/skill system is a lot more rigid.  Most people seem to agree that there are some stats that just aren't worth leveling at all, so everyone just maxes out either STR and AGI or INT and AGI.  You'll find a lot more diversity in stats and builds in RO1.
  • There is a lot less of a need for grinding in RO2, and there isn't a level restriction on EXP sharing.
  • RO2 has an overarching story, the plot of which must be followed in order to proceed.  The story is interesting and ties into details of RO1 in a manner that makes me go "oh snaaaaaaap."
  • Somewhat reiterating, you MUST follow the plot if you want to get anything done.  Monsters barely give EXP in comparison to plot checkpoints.
  • RO2's NPCs, with the exception of plot-significant ones, are not at all interesting to talk to.  Most of their dialog is just "..." which can make it feel like you've entered a town full of mutes.  RO1's NPCs are more entertaining.
  • 95% (I made that percentage up) of item drops in RO2 are completely useless, which can make it harder to make ingame money since there's absolutely no point in anyone buying/selling most of it.  Quest items are non-tradeable and can only be collected by people who are on the quest.  In RO1, most item drops have some use in a quest or in crafting.
  • Maps and such are arranged in a very linear manner in RO2.  It's hard to get lost, but traveling can also get a little boring.  Town-to-town warps can only be done through Prontera or Alberta.  In RO1, maps are more open which can lead to you wandering into deathtraps all the time but also feels more interesting.
  • The community in RO2 tends to be somewhat less elitist than RO1's generally.
  • No free cute hats from monster drops in RO2.  RO1 has cute hats for everyone.
  • Cute full-body costumes (cash shop with one exception) + equipments change your outfit in RO2.  You can create a nice amount of visual diversity.  In RO1, outfits can be dyed but aside from that mostly just headgears create diversity.
  • There is a lot of what I would call "artificial difficulty" added to RO2.  By this I mean, monsters are often made "challenging" by means of just giving them stupidly high amounts of HP, making them take several minutes to kill.  In RO1 battles are usually over within a few seconds.
  • On that note, RO2 feels much slower in general since monsters take much longer to kill.
  • Card system has been simplified in RO2.  The effects have been changed to stats such as +4 INT, +2 AGI only, where in RO1 cards have more diverse effects like elemental resistances, automatically casting skills, etc.
  • Size/element/monster race modifiers have not yet been added in RO2, but there are fillers for them so it's probably a future feature.
  • Everything is VERY equipment based in RO2.  Of course equips are important in RO1, but it gets taken to a greater extent in RO2.  What is essentially the best equipment set in the game is only obtainable through hours of PVP.
  • The PVP in RO2 feels more like a chore to get equips than a fun feature.

My overall verdict is that I'd stick to RO1 for now.  RO2 feels incomplete in many ways and needs time to ripen.

It doesn't make you go ""oh snaaaaaaap."". Put it this way, RO2's a game that has RO1 cameos and that's it, other stuff all suck.

Since when did you max your RO2 SEA 3 chars and which country you in, indonesia, malaysia, phillipine, thai, ?? I got to lv 49~ 2 weeks after close beta.

I love Ro 1 but now it turned into a hard p2w game, they remove some free features to make you depend on cash shop, beside that it have very few ingame events and updates, if your wallet are ready for it, you can enjoy it, but if not, you must prepare for a whole new grind world where you shouldn't do any mistakes.(it is a unique game but there are have some old/awful features stay beside it)

idk anything about Ro 2 but If I want a wow clone I will play aion instead, but now I hate point and click game xD.

I did some mistake to my geneticist's skill build before found out that they remove the free reset, I found no fun with homun afk and stuck with a wrong build, also found out it have no great update for me in future, now I give up ragnarok to play Lol and buy champion's skin instead.

If you're better off extreme ends trying both games, I recommend not playing both of them if you got something going on and keep yourself busy instead of wasting precious mind matter over these games.

The only feature I would love to have from 3D games in RO1 is the chat system where I can type /party or /guild or /map to change my chat medium. Its very annoying to switch it always through those orbs.

Is there a /map?

I know about that. But I still prefer using commands

Nope. There is no /map in RO. Would have been useful though.

Some chat channels I have seen in many MMOs are

/say (Public chat)

/party

/guild

/map

/team <--- Can be useful in WoE

Maybe I'm just easily interested.  I thought some of the details regarding continuity were pretty clever.

I think it was around January or February that I maxed out my characters.  I'm from USA.  I don't understand why these questions are important.

Continuity, it's just that after RO1, thousands of years later, the fate of the world was put into 9 year olds' hands, and you play the 9 year old when he/ she's ~ 16, while other head knights/ knight NPCs are barely 13, except Leon, Knight Guild MAster
