This is what new players are greeted by upon character creation:

 

 

 

These are all bots that record your name into their system and start PM spamming you. They remind me of fleas on an animal or something, just standing around sucking the life force out of the animal. This situation is so out of control!

(Just replace Homeless with Spam Bot and you're left with pretty much the exact sentiment found above)

There should be a billboard there "don't buy zeny" to counter these bad guys. >:|

 

Not sure how to counter this because the novice could potentially be a real player afking there...

There are also some on the boat itself. They all have jibberish names with numbers in them so it's fairly easy to identify them.

(until maybe they cover the "don't" and "il" from illegal part with sitting novices...............  if they are even logged on to see where to block it lol)

I want the extra Izlude channels back, that was my way to avoid the bots, so peaceful... the dock area is ridiculous, you just can't avoid it, either if you make a new character or need to use the warps there. I didn't know they started leaving bots at the starter area at the boat, basically they can PM all new players to buy zeny, lol.

Make the bots PK-able in any area with perma-mute once they die. That's how I'd handle it. I honestly want to see how much overkill players can inflict against spam bots out of sheer rage.

 

Then there's the much simpler option of putting a loading screen that says in giant letters "BUYING ZENY IS ILLEGAL. DON'T DO IT. OR WE WILL FIND YOU." right next to a mob of angry Bio 3&4 MVPs.

Most new players wouldn't be able to read it anyway, loading times are barely noticeable in any non-prehistoric computer.

What about multi-language GM announcements?

 

Or at least an NPC dialog that tells them it's illegal the moment you create a character

That would certainly slow them down, but not solve the problem entirely. Most bots (besides those set up to farm low level items) manage to reach very high levels before getting banned, it only takes minimal effort to configure them to grind to "x" level before calling a spam macro and effectively becoming spam bots.

 

I think the effort needs to be concentrated into the act of spamming itself, instead of placing restrictions on "when you can spam".

yes exactly, but that restrictions are also necessary so they just don't go on multiplying at an insane rate and remove the mentality of just making a random novice name and make it stand there after entering the portal.
