At what point do you get the failed to connect?

Is it during patching? After entering un/pass, after selecting server, or after selecting character?

I've been having this same problem for over a year now, and is very inconsistent with when it does fail or actually patches. This is on multiple work stations, and different ISP connections.

This is an issue that WP really needs to look into fixing. The only way to resolve this is to keep trying over and over again, and sometimes even check back 15 minutes or so later to see if the client will connect.

That's the dns issue, you can add an entry to your HOSTS file to fix it. I'm on phone so I can't get the instructions on that.

Try modiyfing your hosts file as DrAzzy suggested.
