You don't even need to beeing hit or touch the MVP to get MVP.

OP was the only one who is standing in the map when Randgris and somebody killed each other.

 

This is what happened. One time I double KO'd Valk in Morroc and watched a bot get my MVP lol. Thankfully he wasn't aware and didn't touch the loot.

The worst part is, perhaps, that you'd have gotten to level 70 or so in that single burst of xp if not for the level cap.

UGH, I hate when I get a double KO vs an MVP. No EXP and somebody else gets your MVP reward.    Grats on your good luck though. XD

How does gum work in this scenario? Since the swordy got MVP does it mean the MVP got killed without gum? (or its still the last hit that counts for gum?)

Gums and any other effects that activate extra loot work for the person with the killing blow. Whoever killed it got it regardless of who got MVPs. That matters little if they're dead and lying on the floor without siegfried, because loot priority goes away in like 7 seconds anyway.
