The hat is free for spending a minimal amount of time and you're helping a company you support out.

If someone doesn't like the look of it, give it away, sell it, but there's not a lot to complain about.

Don't excuse them like that. They just tacked on a random, incredibly ugly headgear to tempt people into testing. No effort whatsoever. It's random in that it doesn't even have anything to do with the game in question. Why not a piece of equipment or helm from one of the game's flagship characters?

I would 100% agree with you if it was a long beta and would draw in a lot of people.

To me, this is targeted at us, the people who regularly play.

How about a choice between the pointy helm that big guy has or that cute pink mushroom turban the bunny girl has (hopefully with ears~)? Would be nice.

 

So far as gear goes, they could've put in a nice new staff with a sprite like the red haired girl's one with the wings and red spike gem thing, or the little blue knight's fancy shield.

I would play it even without a hat 'cause I'm a goody two-shoes, but I must admit it is pretty... well, it's a worm.

It even makes sense from a business perspective to reward testers with a hat representative or the product. That's what tie-ins are supposed to be.

 

With a recognisable, nice looking headgear, people will see it and immediately think of this mobile game. Quality reflects quality. They may even be tempted to download it and try it out based on the association. Good tie-ins are amazing for cross-selling things to a primed consumer base, which we absolutely are (we're gamers after all).

 

With the headgear they're giving us though, people are just going to look at it and go "oh, what an ugly headgear". That negativity will then reflect upon the game it's representing, if people even make the connection due to how random and unrelated it is. That's such a missed opportunity :<

This isn't something people are purchasing like the DS headgears. It's just a testing period that people can choose to do or not. How many are actually gonna play it? And how many would just fake up a report (and still will) just to get a freebie?

 

I played the last mobile game and got nothing but I still wrote up a message with feedback and screenshots. It's not really asking a lot of people. They even have gold + cash shop currency already given to you. Last game we had to request to have that or we couldn't really test...

I agree. What is that thing supposed to be? Pink hairy dead caterpillar worm things are not cute, whether it was drawn by Lee Myung Jin or even Disney.

The hat doesn't look that awful. I think it's kinda cute. I'm guessing this is the closest to a hode headgear we'll ever get so I may be kind of biased.

I thought it was pretty fun too.
Could see myself playing it when I'm waiting on someone or bored.

Would be fun for people who use public transit too I would imagine or a plane ride.
