Haven't been on iRO for around two years, but last time playing the game I asked this forum if Ragnarok Online was ultimately a single-player experience.

The consensus was yes.

 

Is this still the case, or has the game been rebalanced to favour partying with others?

Its actually really up to you. Some players prefer to go solo its either because they can or its just what they want. For me I go solo when i want some alone time in-game. I go with a party when going in Gramps for fast counts.   so its really up to your preferences.

You can still party. The recruiting forum part is proof enough of that. Ask around and be willing to lend a hand. Certain classes are in more demand than others at times. Folks like to party together, if they did not RO would have been dead already. Just know what the expectations are and have fun.

Isn't soloing in the minority now? I was under the impression 90% of people squatted down in a gramps turn in and waited for someone to show up and gwing/arrow storm. :v feels that way anyway

When you have no more than 1m zeny, limited supplies, limited knowledge and eden gears, partying is a godsend. You divide tasks, you plan, you get exp faster, it's awesome. I did it a lot when I first started (granted, with friends, but still).

 

When you have OP gears and can dish crazy damage and/or mob huge number of monsters, plus access to BMx3, parties might slow you down greatly, because you're basically replacing them with these gears.

 

Partying is more useful and fun in instances/quests or in planned activites with friends/guildies. Of course I can solo OGH, but if I can bring people to chat, have fun and save supplies, why wouldn't I help them?

we tend to be greedy sometimes especially when it comes to boss hunting. we do solo so we can get all the loots.

Personally, I have some decent gears, but I will always prefer parties.  For me, they always seem to be better exp.  Personally soloing bores the crap out of me.

You're better off soloing many things, so as to have more rewards. Instances come to mind. If 5 chars solo it, that's 5x the rewards at the end than having 5 chars do it all together. This is especially true with many of the newer instances like the ones that award rare gear from boss drops.

It depends on your class as well. But yes, there are more options to party in this era of Ragnarok. If you don't like to solo.

that's only good up till 150, then you switch to squatting in lhz and wait for someone to show up and gwing/arrowstorm.

Still, many classes can super effectively solo in NCT up until 160, and even 175 on EXP events :v

Soloing gives you all the exp, loots and rewards, of whatever you do. But its more costly as well. Partying makes it easier, faster, but less exp/h(minus in bio4 :v) and lesser rewards(depends)
It all comes to how you like to enjoy the game and your aimings. How well geared you are also determines your ability to solo

I guess support classes do need parties more often :v Don't worry, Kaddy, you can still do what you normally do.

But someone told me parties were worthless not just less effective under specific conditionals of certain classes and levels of personal wealth
