I'm trying to figure out the best katar against brad golems. I have a fire katar[3] but not sure what to put in it. I'll have about 100 str. I won't have enough for mobster or paper cards so my debate is between 3x kaho (20% against earth property) or 3x goblin steamrider(+10% crit dmg. +7 crit on formless monsters). From what I understand, the +10% crit damage is overall. So would this be better than the elemental cards? Also would katars even be the best way to kill them? I think it would be decent since they have high def.

I would think all cards that mod% damage will only affect B part of your ATK.
With that card possibly mod% will activate on crit. In Renewal all mod% card should behave the same.
I had +4 tri-skel worker jur and a +7 regular jamadhar. Guess what.. My +7 actually do more damage. I already had 70 STR, meaning those mod% cards only affact your weapon not your STR.
Take it like this.. a katar with 100 damage with hydra, it becomes 120 which is the same as katar with andre. So it is more effective if you add more ATK before mod% cards.
However if your katar ATK is 165 with hydra = 198 which is better than one andre.

weapon damage calculation:
+1 fire katar +2 zipper + 20%mod = (5+105+60)*1.2=204
+1 fire katar +2 andre + 20%mod = (5+105+40)*1.2=180
+1 fire katar +1 zipper + 40%mod = (5+105+30)*1.4=196
+1 fire katar +60%mod = (5+105)*1.6 = 176

+5 fire katar +2 zipper + 20%mod = (25+105+60)*1.2=228
+5 fire katar +2 andre + 20%mod = (25+105+40)*1.2=204
+5 fire katar +1 zipper + 40%mod = (25+105+30)*1.4=224
+5 fire katar +60%mod = (25+105)*1.6 = 208

+7 fire katar +2 zipper + 20%mod = (25+14+105+60)*1.2=244
+7 fire katar +2 andre + 20%mod = (25+14+105+40)*1.2=220.8
+7 fire katar +1 zipper + 40%mod = (25+14+105+30)*1.4=243.6
+7 fire katar +60%mod = (25+14+105)*1.6 = 230.4

+10 fire katar +2 zipper + 20%mod = (25+35+105+60)*1.2=270
+10 fire katar +2 andre + 20%mod = (25+35+105+40)*1.2=246
+10 fire katar +1 zipper + 40%mod = (25+35+105+30)*1.4=273
+10 fire katar +60%mod = (25+35+105)*1.6 = 264

+20 fire katar +2 zipper + 20%mod = (25+105+105+60)*1.2=354
+20 fire katar +2 andre+ 20%mod = (25+105+105+40)*1.2=330
+20 fire katar +1 zipper + 40%mod = (25+105+105+30)*1.4=371
+20 fire katar +60%mod = (25+105+105)*1.6 = 376

Hmmm interesting. So what you're saying is that strength is not actually adding +.5% weapon atk per one? Could it be that your jur did less damage because you had 3 of the same cards in it or did they take out the nerf when you have more than 2 of the same card in a weapon? Also what about critical card? If it's going to increase your crit damage by 10%, then it seems like as long as you're critting for 300+ damage then this would give the best damage output. Not too sure if that's how it works though.

So you're saying the best option for damage output would be (as an example) 2 Andre + a Kaho?

Due to their high def and the fact that crits no longer bypass def you would probably be better off with an ice pick. However if you want to use a carded katar, lava golem card adds +30% damage to golems.

So really, when renewal was released they should've just re-worded the [+% vs.] cards to say 'increases "atk" vs. whatever by 20%' instead of "damage by 20%".

STR does increase weapon total atk by 0.5%, but not your ATK that come from STR itself
say your STR is 100, give 50% extra to Weapon. If you have 200 ATK weapon that would make 100+(200*1.5)=400 damage. If you have card that increase 10% crit, your ATK will be 100+(200*1.6)=420 on a crit attack only.

No, the %cards only affect your weapon damage. a 20% card on a 230atk : 230*1.2 =276ATK, if you have 100 str, it becomes 100+(230*1.7).
